LifeStraw Peak Series Solo Water Filter
User Manual
How to Use
- Prepare for use by filling any standard 28mm threaded PCO bottle or pouch with water.
- Remove the bottom cap and screw it tightly onto the bottle.
- Open the top cap to expose the mouthpiece/water outlet.
- Filter water by squeezing the bottle to apply pressure into another container, or by using the mouthpiece to drink directly from the filter. Close the top cap when finished.
- Backwash. It is recommended to backwash regularly after each day of use to keep the filter clean and prevent clogging. To do this, unscrew the mouthpiece completely and attach it to the included backwash syringe. Then, remove the bottom cap. Submerge the exposed bottom of the membrane microfilter in drinking water and draw water through the filter by pulling the syringe upward until the syringe is full. Then push the water back through the filter by pushing the syringe downward until the water has been pushed completely to the other side. Repeat several times. When finished, remove the syringe and reattach the top cap and mouthpiece assembly by screwing it back onto the device, and place the bottom cap on.
If storing your LifeStraw Solo Water Microfilter for more than 1 month without use, it is recommended to follow the long-term storage instructions to preserve filter longevity and prevent clogging. See below.
Monthly Cleaning
- Add 1/4 teaspoon of household bleach to 2 cups of water.
- Use the syringe to pull/push the chlorine/bleach solution through the Peak Solo (refer to backwash procedure) 5 times.
- After that, draw the chlorine water one more time, close the bottom cap, then detach the syringe, close the mouthpiece and top cap.
- Let the unit rest for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- After resting, repeat the backwash procedure 5 times with clean water to flush out the chlorine. Peak Solo is now ready to use.
Long-Term Storage Instructions
Avoid drying out the filter by following these long-term storage instructions. This will keep the filter at peak performance and maintain the membrane's hydrophilic properties while preventing mold or algae growth during long-term storage. When the membrane dries out completely, it can be difficult to get water to flow again.
Follow these steps if you have already used the LifeStraw Peak Solo filter and plan to store it for longer than 1 month without use.
A - Clean with Bleach Solution
- Backwash the membrane microfilter according to the backwash instructions before storing.
- Add 1/4 teaspoon of household bleach to 2 cups of water.
- Use the syringe to pull and push the diluted bleach solution through the membrane microfilter 5 times. Only pull the diluted bleach solution one more time and let the filter sit flat with the syringe attached for 5 minutes. After resting, repeat the backwash procedure 5 times with clean water to flush out the chlorine.
B - Submerge in Saline Solution
- Avoid drying out the membrane microfilter by storing it in a saline solution made by mixing 1 teaspoon of salt with 2 cups of water.
- Unscrew and remove the top cap and bottom cap. Attach the syringe, submerge the bottom of the filter into the saline solution and pull the saline solution into the filter. Then detach the syringe and place the microfilter inside a sealed, reusable container filled with the saline solution mixture to keep the filter moist. Store the 2 caps separately.
- Store in a cool, dry place.
- To resume use, open the reusable container and discard the excess saline solution. Then, run the backwash procedure with drinking water to help remove the salt water.
