Because suppressed firearms make less noise than unsuppressed firearms, it is easy to forget that they are still firearms and capable of causing bodily injury and property damage. Remember, a suppressed firearm should be treated with the same safety and caution as an unsuppressed firearm.
Firearm silencers are user-attached firearm muzzle devices, and as such are subject to improper attachment issues unless the procedures outlined in this manual are followed precisely.
Before installing the silencer on the host firearm, be sure the firearm is unloaded and the action is opened so the firearm is visibly clear of any ammunition. If you are at all unsure as to the proper procedures to ensure your firearm is unloaded, please consult your firearm user's manual/instructions and/or contact a properly licensed dealer or the manufacturer or gunsmith of your firearm.
Check the fit between barrel and silencer before firing! The thread mount must be fully shouldered on the barrel. There should be no visible gap between the barrel shoulder and the face of the silencer thread mount. Poor accuracy and product damage may result if the silencer is not properly shouldered.

Silencers must be free of obstructions such as mud, dirt, etc. DO NOT attempt to shoot through an obstructed silencer. If submerged in water, the user must allow sufficient time to drain the silencer completely.
To ensure your silencer remains secure while firing, it is of the utmost importance that you frequently verify the silencer is securely tightened onto the barrel. SilencerCo recommends checking the security of the attachment after 30 discharges of the firearm.
Before removing the silencer from the host firearm, be sure that the firearm is unloaded and the action is opened so it is visibly clear of any ammunition. When removing the silencer, use extreme caution as it may be hot to the touch after firing. Use heat-resistant gloves to avoid burns or other injuries. Once the silencer is removed from the host firearm, SilencerCo recommends using a thread protector or other muzzle device to protect the muzzle threads and crown, during storage or transport.
Ammunition Selection
The silencer is designed to suppress the initial muzzle blast and subsequent projectile de-corking pressure. The silencer doesn't contact or otherwise interact with the bullet, allowing the projectile to travel at its default speed. Because of this, a sonic crack may be produced by the projectile as it breaks the sound barrier.
Depending on the geography of the area, the sonic crack may vary in volume. This is solely a function of the projectile breaking the sound barrier and is not related to product performance.
If desired, sonic crack can be avoided with the use of subsonic ammunition. Subsonic ammunition can be identified by a muzzle velocity that does not exceed the speed of sound. The speed of sound in an environment increases with temperature, and ranges between 1000 feet per second (at approx -40°F/-40°C) and 1200 feet per second (140°F/60°C).
Overview & Product Specs
The Osprey is unique because it is the only multi-caliber polygonal centerfire pistol silencer on the market. The monocore baffle design in a polygonal package allows for greater internal volume and therefore better sound performance. The Osprey uses a patented cam locking system to index so the flat sight plane can be lined up below the shooter's line of sight, thereby avoiding blocking most standard pistol sights.
The Osprey was designed to be used “wet” or “dry.” Shooting "wet" temporarily improves sound suppression by inserting a small amount of ablative media. This can be done by inserting about 5cc's (or a typical water bottle cap full) of clean water or clear wire pulling gel into the back of the silencer.

PISTON INSTALLATION
You will need to install a piston (not included) for the Osprey to be compatible with most pistol hosts. Pistons are available in all popular thread patterns to adapt to your pistol.
A Fixed Barrel Spacer (not included, part number AC22) should be used in place of the spring if the piston mount is used on a pistol-caliber firearm with a fixed barrel. Otherwise damage to the piston can occur.
Open the cam lever and unscrew the spring retainer (using the supplied tool) from the rear of the Osprey and remove the spring from the silencer body. Place the spring over your piston.

Slide the smooth, toothless end into the spring retainer/back cap. While pressing firmly on the indexing ring/spring retainer, rotate the indexing ring portion around the piston until the three teeth on the ring align with the grooves on the piston.
Once aligned, continue pushing until the indexing ring/spring retainer is tight against the spring. Once the spring, piston, and retainer are properly seated together, place the assembly back into Osprey. Hand tighten the spring retainer/back cap into the silencer body, then tighten using the supplied tool. To remove, perform steps in reverse order.

MOUNTING TO THE FIREARM
After confirming that your firearm is unloaded, place the piston mount over the threads of the barrel. Taking care not to cross-thread, screw the silencer onto the barrel until it is firmly secured and no additional barrel threading is visible. Hand tighten only. To orient the Osprey relative to your sights, release the cam lever lock by rotating the lever outward. While holding the lever fully open, rotate the silencer until it is at the desired orientation to the host weapon.
Depending on the thread pattern, some pistons will shoulder on the nose of the barrel.

A Fixed Barrel Spacer (available separately) should be used in place of the spring if the piston mount is used on a pistol-caliber firearm with a fixed barrel. Otherwise damage to the piston can occur.
Once the Osprey is vertically aligned so the volume of the silencer hangs directly below the bore line, rotate the cam lever back into its locked position. To remove the Osprey, unthread as you would a traditional round silencer, keeping the cam lever in the locked position. The next time you attach the Osprey to the host weapon, it will return to the desired orientation.

Maintenance
O-RING
Inside the indexing ring/spring retainer is an O-Ring, which seals the gases from escaping the silencer when the piston is actuated during firing. It should be noted that the Osprey will function without the O-Ring, but it is necessary to achieve the most effective sound suppression.
The O-Ring will need to be replaced once you notice a substantial amount of wear or breakage. At this point, simply disassemble the piston assembly and insert a new O-Ring into the groove on the inside of the spring retainer, directly under the threads.
Regularly lubricate the O-ring with white lithium grease to ensure reliable operation and accuracy.
The Osprey uses a Viton size-018 O-Ring available on the SilencerCo website (AC88).
CAM LEVER
Regularly lubricate the interface where the cam lever and brake contact with a high quality grease or firearm lubricant.

SILENCER
Aside from the piston assembly and mounting surfaces, the Osprey does not require regular maintenance.
The Osprey has a substantial amount of internal volume and will perform well beyond the expected life cycle of the firearms it will be used on without cleaning the baffles.
Do not completely submerge in chemical cleaner or use an ultrasonic cleaner, as this has the potential to damage the silencer.
Servicing the Piston Assembly
The piston assembly should be regularly cleaned. Remove the assembly and disassemble all parts. Using a scrubbing brush and cleaner, remove all carbon and build up. When finished, apply white lithium grease to the O-Ring inside the spring retainer, reinsert the piston assembly into the back of the silencer.
Never use hard abrasives such as sand paper or aluminum oxide blast media to clean your silencer components as this can ruin the finish and precise tolerances of your silencer, resulting in malfunction and further damage.
If the assembly is difficult to remove from the back of the silencer, thread the Osprey back onto the host weapon, open the cam lever, and rotate the Osprey back and forth. This will loosen some of the carbon build up, making it easier to remove the assembly from the silencer. After rotating the silencer back and forth for a few seconds, lock the cam lever, detach the Osprey, and continue disassembly.
Limited Lifetime Warranty
SilencerCo, LLC ("SilencerCo") warrants that if any product sold by SilencerCo and used for its intended use ever becomes defective, SilencerCo will repair or replace the product at no charge, other than shipping, subject to the conditions set forth below.
THE WARRANTY EXTENDS ONLY TO THE ORIGINAL REGISTERED PURCHASER. This warranty does not cover damage to SilencerCo products or host firearm resulting from careless or irresponsible handling, adjustments or modifications to its intended design, negligence, or other unforeseeable abuse. SilencerCo assumes no liability for unsafe or illegal use of the silencer by its purchaser or any other user that comes in contact with the product after purchase. SilencerCo assumes no responsibility for physical injury or property damage resulting from careless or irresponsible handling or by any use contrary to the recommendations, warnings and cautions generally listed in this manual. SilencerCo does not cover damage to the silencer or host firearm resulting from improper “hand-loaded, reloaded, previously used or otherwise defective ammunition." THIS WARRANTY IS FURTHER REGULATED BY RELEVANT AND APPLICABLE STATE AND FEDERAL LAWS.
If SilencerCo determines that the conditions for warranty coverage under this limited warranty are satisfied, SilencerCo will, at no charge, replace or repair the SilencerCo product with the same or similar model subject to the terms herein. If no replacement is available, and SilencerCo determines that the product cannot be repaired, SilencerCo will replace the nonperforming or defective unit with a unit that, in SilencerCo's sole determination, is substantially similar to the lawfully purchased and registered product. This warranty extends to any and all parts as originally sold by SilencerCo, but does not extend to any altered product or firearm that is altered or rebuilt after original purchase, damaged through abuse, misuse through lack of proper care and maintenance, or used other than for its legal intended purposes.
SILENCERCO'S LIABILITY FOR BREACH OF ANY WARRANTY WITH RESPECT TO A SILENCERCO PRODUCT SHALL BE LIMITED TO REPLACING OR REPAIRING THE NONPERFORMING OR DEFECTIVE PRODUCT AS DESCRIBED IN THIS LIMITED WARRANTY. THIS LIMITED WARRANTY SHALL BE THE SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE REMEDY WITH RESPECT TO A NONPERFORMING OR DEFECTIVE PRODUCT, AND SILENCERCO WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY OTHER DAMAGES, INCLUDING DIRECT, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OR DIMUNITION IN VALUE DUE TO REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT WITH A DIFFERENT PRODUCT.
