Introduction
This guide provides all necessary information for establishing a correct connection between your PC and appliance electronic boards. A good connection is essential for executing appliance diagnosis and configuring electronic boards. If communication problems arise between SidekickPC and the electronic board, always verify the connection is correct.
The first part of this guide illustrates the hardware elements of the Appliance Connection Kit and the correct sequence of operations. The second part shows various electronic boards and the position of the communication connector for SidekickPC.
Appliance Connection Kit
The Appliance Connection Kit includes the following components:
- Appliance Mini Interface (AMI): A hardware module for connecting the PC to appliance electronic boards.
Visual Description: A white rectangular box with ports and indicators, including a Power LED, External Power connector, and USB Type B Female connector.
- USB cable MM A-B: A standard USB cable for connecting the AMI module to the PC.
Visual Description: A grey cable with a USB Type-A connector on one end and a USB Type-B connector on the other.
- Dish washer connector (RAST 2.5 DAAS): Used for connecting to dishwasher electronic boards.
Visual Description: A white connector with 6 positions, keyed for specific orientation.
- Washing machine and dryer connector (RAST 5 DAAS): Used for connecting to washing machine and dryer electronic boards.
Visual Description: A white connector with 5 positions, keyed for specific orientation.
- ENV 06 connector (JST DAAS): Used for connecting to ENV 06 series washing machine and dryer electronic boards.
Visual Description: A white connector with 3 positions, keyed for specific orientation.
Important: The Appliance Mini Interface requires the use of a USB 2.0 fully-shielded High-Speed cable. Other types of USB cables may not guarantee a reliable connection.
AMI Module Details and Connections
The AMI module features a Power LED, an External Power connector, and a USB Type B Female connector. It also has an ON/OFF switch on its side that interrupts the current supply to the electronic board. This switch can be set to the ON position permanently. If set to ON permanently, connect the USB cable to the AMI module only after turning on the appliance, and disconnect it before turning off the appliance.
AMI Connections to Computer: The AMI module connects to the appliance board via the appropriate interface cable, and the AMI module connects to the PC via the USB cable. The computer typically uses rear USB ports for connection.

Important Notes on Connector Usage
For Dishwashers (RAST 2.5 DAAS): To use this connector, it is necessary to remove the first 4 keying ribs of the connector using a cutter. Keep only the last keying rib.
For ENV06 Fabric Care Boards (JST DAAS): It is necessary to remove the holding clip with the use of a cutter.
Connection and Disconnection Procedures
Connecting the Spare Board to the PC
VERY IMPORTANT: Ensure the correct sequence of operations.
In order to avoid the risk of electrical shock, only skilled personnel should use the system.
For security reasons, NEVER power the electronic board from the mains supply (230 VAC) when it is not installed in the appliance.
The Appliance Mini Interface module can provide power to the electronic board when it is not connected to the mains supply. Ensure the AMI switch is set to the ON position.
When powered by the interface module (stand-alone), the board may detect unexpected voltage/frequency conditions, storing an alarm like "FREQUENCY OF APPLIANCE INCORRECT (EH1 or EB1 in Fabric Care appliances)". This is normal. Remove this alarm from memory manually or via Sidekick when installing the board in the appliance.
Before handling any electronic board, discharge yourself from electrostatic charges by touching a grounded conductive object.
WARNING: Never touch both the board and the adapter module interface connector during configuration program download or when the board supply is present. These precautions prevent damage from electrostatic discharges.
Steps to connect the PC to the spare board:
- Disconnect the USB cable from the PC, if necessary.
- Connect the adapter module interface cable to both the electronic board and the AMI module.
- Connect the USB cable to both the PC and the AMI module.
Disconnecting the Spare Board from the PC
Before handling any electronic board, discharge yourself from electrostatic charges by touching a grounded conductive object.
WARNING: Never touch both the board and the adapter module interface connector during configuration program download or when the board supply is present. These precautions prevent damage from electrostatic discharges.
Steps to disconnect the PC from the spare board:
- Disconnect the USB cable from the PC.
- Wait at least 5 seconds BEFORE touching the board or interface cable to prevent Electro Static Discharge (ESD) damage risk.
- Disconnect the adapter module interface cable from the board.
Connecting the Appliance to the PC
In order to avoid the risk of electrical shock, only skilled personnel should use the system.
The cable connection to the appliance's electronic board can only occur when the appliance is powered off and, if possible, unplugged from the mains power supply.

- Access the electronic board and its connector. The method depends on the appliance type.
- Connect the adapter module interface cable to both the electronic board and the interface module.
- Connect the power plug and turn on the appliance.
- Connect the USB cable to both the PC and the AMI module.
This sequence ensures user safety and reduces the risk of damage from electrostatic charges. It also avoids the "FREQUENCY OF APPLIANCE INCORRECT" alarm when the board is powered by the interface module instead of the mains supply.
