New Features and Enhancements
This section summarizes the new features in the Device GUI software version 2.12.0.
Creating Access Control Lists (ACLs)
Applies to switches running AlliedWare Plus 5.5.2-1.1 onwards.
The Device GUI now lets you create IPv4 and IPv6 hardware ACLs and apply them to interfaces, to allow or block traffic. To do this, use the Access Control page under the Security menu.
GUI Screenshot Description: The screenshot shows the Allied Telesis GUI with the "Security" menu expanded, highlighting "Access Control". The main pane displays "Access Control Lists (ACLs)" with options to create new ACLs, manage Host Groups and Port Groups. It indicates that ACLs are filters that restrict network access. The interface shows fields for Name, IP Version (IPv4/IPv6), and buttons for Save/Cancel.
The interface allows creating named hardware ACLs, specifying IPv4 or IPv6, and adding filters. Users can apply these ACLs to interfaces.
Simplified Passpoint setup
Applies to devices running AlliedWare Plus 5.5.2-1.1 onwards.
On an AlliedWare Plus device acting as a wireless controller, it is now easy to set up a new Passpoint network. Use the Network page and the "Passpoint Basic Setup" button to create a new Passpoint network or copy an existing one.
GUI Screenshot Description: The screenshot displays the Allied Telesis GUI's "Wireless Setup" page. It shows tabs for "Start", "Networks", "Access Points", "MAC Filter", and "AWC Management". The "Networks" tab is active, listing network configurations with columns for SSID, Description, Security, Status, and Trigger. A prominent "Passpoint Basic Setup" button is visible, along with options to add networks or triggers, and to copy existing Passpoint networks.
This feature requires firmware version 6.0.1-5.1 or later on the AT-TQ5403, AT-TQm5403, and AT-TQ5403e APs.
For more information about Passpoint and Vista Manager mini, see the Wireless Management (AWC) with Vista Manager mini User Guide.
Increase to number of wireless Channel Blanket VAPs
Applies to devices running AlliedWare Plus 5.5.2-1.1 onwards.
When an AlliedWare Plus device is acting as a wireless controller, it now supports more Virtual Access Points (VAPs) for channel blanket installations on TQ5403, TQ5403e, and TQ6602 access points. The new limits are:
TQ5403 and TQ5403e | TQ6602 | |
---|---|---|
Maximum CB VAPs on each AP | 6 | 20 |
Maximum CB VAPs on each radio | 3 | 10 |
This new limit requires the following firmware version on the AP:
- AT-TQ6602: 7.0.1-1.1 or later
- AT-TQ5403 and AT-TQ5403e: 6.0.1-1.1 or later.
Use a USB stick to turn on wireless Emergency Mode
Applies to devices running AlliedWare Plus 5.5.2-1.1 onwards.
AlliedWare Plus wireless controllers support Emergency Mode for wireless networks. Emergency Mode makes your wireless network available to the public in an emergency, such as a natural disaster. The Device GUI now lets you put your wireless network into Emergency Mode by simply inserting a pre-prepared USB stick into the AlliedWare Plus device that is the wireless controller. This enhancement makes it easier to start Emergency Mode, as you do not need to log into the AlliedWare Plus device.
You first need to insert an empty USB stick into the AlliedWare Plus device, enter a key, and turn the feature on.
GUI Screenshot Description: The first screenshot shows the "Monitoring" page of the Allied Telesis GUI. A dialog box titled "USB Key For Emergency Mode" is open. It indicates that a USB memory stick is inserted and provides a field to "Enter key that you want to set to the USB memory stick." A submit button is present. The second dialog box, also titled "USB Key For Emergency Mode", shows options for "Registration / Unregistration" and "Configuration / Management". It allows entering a key and an optional description to register with the device, and enables/disables Emergency Mode activation.
Remove the USB stick and keep it somewhere convenient. To put the network into Emergency Mode, just insert the USB stick. As long as the keys on the device and the stick match, emergency mode will automatically activate. The device's port LEDs will blink to indicate it is in emergency mode.
For more information about configuring Emergency Mode, see the Wireless Management (AWC) with Vista Manager mini User Guide.
Accessing and Updating the Web-based GUI
This section describes how to access the GUI, check the version, and update it.
Browse to the GUI
Perform the following steps to browse to the GUI:
- If you haven't already, add an IP address to an interface. For example, using the CLI:
Alternatively, on unconfigured devices you can use the default address:awplus> enable awplus# configure terminal awplus(config)# interface vlan1 awplus(config-if)# ip address 192.168.1.1/24
- On switches:
169.254.42.42
- On AR-Series:
192.168.1.1
- On switches:
- Open a web browser and browse to the IP address from step 1.
- The GUI starts up and displays a login screen. Log in with your username and password. The default username is
manager
and the default password isfriend
.
Check the GUI version
To see which version you have, open the System > About
page in the GUI and check the field called GUI version
.
If you have an earlier version than 2.12.0, update it as described in "Update the GUI on switches" on page 8 or "Update the GUI on AR-Series devices" on page 9.
GUI Screenshot Description: The screenshot shows the navigation menu on the left side of the Allied Telesis GUI. It highlights the path System > About

Update the GUI on switches
Perform the following steps through the Device GUI and command-line interface if you have been running an earlier version of the GUI and need to update it.
- Obtain the GUI file from the Allied Telesis Software Download center. The filename for v2.12.0 of the GUI is
awplus-gui_552_27.gui
. Make sure that the version string in the filename (e.g., 552) matches the version of AlliedWare Plus running on the switch. The file is not device-specific; the same file works on all devices. - Log into the GUI: Start a browser and browse to the device's IP address, using HTTPS. You can access the GUI via any reachable IP address on any interface. The GUI starts up and displays a login screen. Log in with your username and password. The default username is
manager
and the default password isfriend
. - Go to
System > File Management
. - Click Upload.
- GUI Screenshot Description: The screenshot shows the "File Management" page of the Allied Telesis GUI. It lists files in the filesystem, including "default.cfg", with options to Download and Delete. An "Upload" button is prominently displayed.
- Locate and select the GUI file you downloaded from the Software Download center. The new GUI file is added to the File Management window. You can delete older GUI files, but you do not have to.
- Reboot the switch. Or alternatively, use a Serial console connection or SSH to access the CLI, then use the following commands to stop and restart the HTTP service:
To confirm that the correct file is now in use, use the commands:awplus> enable awplus# configure terminal awplus(config)# no service http awplus(config)# service http
awplus(config)# exit awplus# show http
Update the GUI on AR-Series devices
Prerequisite: On AR-Series devices, if the firewall is enabled, you need to create a firewall rule to permit traffic generated by the device that is destined for external services. See the "Configuring a Firewall Rule for Required External Services" section in the Firewall and Network Address Translation (NAT) Feature Overview and Configuration Guide.
Perform the following steps through the command-line interface if you have been running an earlier version of the GUI and need to update it.
