Sizing / Fit
How to Measure Your Torso for Your Pack
- Find Iliac Crest: Locate the top of your hip bone.
- On Back of Neck, Find C7 Vertebrae: Touch your chin to your chest and feel for the large protruding bone at the base of your neck.
- Measure From C7 Vertebrae to Iliac Crest: Measure the distance to determine your torso length.
Men's Torso Sizing
- S/M: 17-20" / 43-51 cm
- L/XL: 19-23" / 48-58.5 cm
Women's Torso Sizing
- WXS/S: 13-17" / 33-43 cm
- WM/L: 16-20" / 40.5-51 cm
Women's-Specific Fit
- Shorter torso length.
- Harness with curves designed to accommodate women's necks, shoulders, and chests.
- Hipbelt designed to wrap naturally around the curves of a woman's hips, offering better load stabilization and support.
Pack Fit Instructions
Position the Pack
Completely loosen the pack's hipbelt, harness, and load-lifter straps (if applicable). Load the pack with 10-20 lb/4-9 kg of gear. Put the pack on and ensure the hipbelt is centered and rests over the hipbone. The hipbelt padding should sit halfway above/below the hipbone.
Buckle Hipbelt
Buckle and tighten the hipbelt evenly using Osprey's cross-body ErgoPull. The hipbelt padding should wrap around the hips with approximately 1-3 in/2.5-6 cm of webbing between the buckle and the hipbelt when tightened.
Hipbelt Adjustment
If the hipbelt is too large or "tops out," or does not offer the preferred amount of coverage, the customer may need a different pack size, model, or adjustment.
Tighten Shoulder Strap
Tighten the shoulder harness straps by pulling them down and back.
Tighten Load Lifters (If Applicable)
Tightening the load lifters will pull the pack close to the body and help stabilize the load. If the torso length is adjusted correctly, the load lifters will sit between a 30- to 60-degree angle and align naturally with the shoulder straps.
Check Torso Length
Locate the harness yoke (where harness straps meet near the neck base). Locate the C7 vertebra (protruding bone at the neck base). The yoke should be 1 in/2.5 cm below the C7 vertebra.
Torso Length Adjustment Steps - AIRSPEED
- Identify the two injection-molded adjustment ladders at the top corners of the tensioned mesh backpanel.
- Each ladder has four cutouts. The pack harness passes through one cutout on each ladder, ending in a plastic harness toggle that sets the torso length.
- To set a different torso length, reach behind the adjustment ladder on both sides and lever the harness toggles until they are fully extended and straight, allowing them to pass through the ladder cutout. Once done on both sides, the harness is free to slide up and down the LightWire frame.
- Slide the harness up or down the LightWire frame to the appropriate torso length and re-insert the plastic harness toggles, curved side first, fully into the matching ladder cutout on both sides.
- Ensure the plastic harness toggle is securely captured by the adjustment ladder and, under tension, is pulled up flat behind the backpanel. This ensures the toggle won't come out under weight and your torso adjustment is set.
Check Harness Fit
The harness straps should wrap fully around the shoulders with no gaps between the pack and back. The padded part of the shoulder straps should end at 2 in/5 cm or more below the armpits without topping out.
Harness/Shoulder Strap Adjustment
If the harness is too small or large, but the torso length is correct, the customer may need a different pack size, model, or adjustment.
Buckle the Sternum Strap
The sternum strap should be adjusted to approximately 2 in/5 cm below the collarbone.
