Main components

A diagram shows the main components of the refrigerator, including the freezer shelf, upper refrigerator shelf, lower refrigerator shelf, crisper drawers, and door trays.

Note: The image above is only for reference and may vary from the actual product.

Setting up your refrigerator

Before using your refrigerator

  1. Remove all packing materials, including bottom cushions, foam pads, and tape inside of your refrigerator. Tear off the protective film on the doors and the refrigerator body.
  2. Wipe the cabinet with a mild detergent and warm water, then wipe dry.
  3. Let your refrigerator stand upright for more than two hours before connecting it to power. Plugging in your refrigerator before this could result in a decrease in cooling capacity or other damage.
  4. Before putting food in your refrigerator, wait about two to three hours after the thermostat has been set to let your refrigerator cool. In the summer (when the ambient temperature is high), wait four hours.

Finding a suitable location

Leveling your refrigerator

Note: Having someone push against the top of your refrigerator helps to take some weight off the leveling foot, making it easier to adjust.

A diagram illustrates how to adjust the leveling feet: clockwise to raise, counter-clockwise to lower.

Providing a proper power supply

Diagrams show a 3-prong plug and outlet, and a grounding adapter.

Notes:

Installing an optional ice maker

Your refrigerator comes set up for ice maker installation. This refrigerator is compatible with the Insignia NS-ICEF2W2 ice maker (not included). To install, follow the ice maker installation instructions in the ice maker kit manual.

A diagram shows an ice maker installed in the freezer compartment.

Reversing the door position

Depending on the location where you plan to use your refrigerator, you may find it more convenient to reverse the position of the door.

Reversing the door position

Part included with the hinge kit: Left door self-locking fixture (2)

Note: This part comes in a separate package.

  1. Unplug your refrigerator and remove all food from inside and in the door shelves.
  2. Using a flathead screwdriver, remove the left cover plate and the right upper hinge cover, then unscrew and remove the upper hinge. Keep the screws to reuse.

Diagrams show the removal of the left cover plate and upper hinge.

  1. Lift the freezer door up and away from your refrigerator.
  2. Unscrew the two screws holding the center hinge, remove the hinge, then lift the refrigerator door up and away from your refrigerator. Save the screws to reuse.

  2. Lay your refrigerator down on its back, then unscrew the lower hinge screws and both adjusting feet.
  3. Using pliers and a 3/8 in. socket wrench, remove the lower hinge pin from the hinge, then reinstall it into the hole on the other side of the hinge.

Diagrams illustrate the removal and reinstallation of the lower hinge and adjusting feet.

  1. Install the lower hinge on the left side of your refrigerator with the screws you just removed, then reinstall the adjusting feet.

Note: The left adjusting foot is installed through the lower hinge.

  1. Return your refrigerator to the upright position.
  2. Unscrew and remove the shaft sleeves, door stops, and right door self-locking fixture from both doors, then remove the left door self-locking fixture from the accessory bag and install it onto the left corner of the freezer door body, together with the door stops and shaft sleeves.

Diagrams show the installation of door stops, shaft sleeves, and self-locking fixtures.

  1. Remove the hole plug and shaft sleeve on the top of the refrigerator door and reverse their positions before reinstalling them, then install the left door self-locking fixture (from the accessory bag) and door stop on the bottom left of the refrigerator door.
  2. Install the refrigerator door on the lower left hinge, install the center beam screws, center hinge and tighten the screws on the left side, and install the plug pins, center beam screws, and screw caps on the right side.

Diagrams illustrate the installation of the refrigerator door and related components.

  1. Use a 5/16 in. socket wrench and pliers to remove the upper hinge pin from the hinge, then reinstall it into the hole on the other side of the hinge.
  2. Install the freezer door on the middle hinge pin, then install the upper hinge on the left side of your refrigerator. Install the hinge cover and the cover plate.

Using your refrigerator

Note: If your refrigerator is unplugged or loses power, wait five minutes before restarting it to prevent damage to the compressor.

Setting the refrigerator temperature

Note: The control knob represents the gear position and does not specifically refer to a certain temperature.

Diagrams show the refrigerator temperature control knob with settings for Cold, Recommended, and Coldest.

Diagrams show the freezer temperature control knob with settings for Cold, Recommended, and Coldest.

Using your refrigerator compartment

CAUTION: To prevent damage, never close the refrigerator door while the shelves or crisper drawers are extended.

Using the door trays

The refrigerator and freezer compartments have door trays. You can adjust a tray to fit the items you want to store.

  1. Remove all items from a tray.
  2. Hold the door tray with one hand, then use the other hand to tap the bottom of the tray up several inches.

Align the door tray where you want to place it, then push it down into place.

Adjusting the refrigerator shelves

The two glass shelves in the refrigerator compartment can be adjusted to various heights, as needed.

  1. To remove a shelf, lift the front of the shelf, then gently pull it forward until the shelf comes clear of the shelf guides.
  2. When reinserting a shelf, make sure that there is nothing behind it, then gently push the shelf back into the position.

Using the crisper drawers

Use the crisper drawers to store vegetables and fruits. In general, store fruits and vegetables that are not sensitive to moisture loss (apples, peaches, pears) in a drawer with a low humidity setting and store food that can wilt (lettuce, asparagus, carrots, strawberries) in a drawer with high humidity.

The crisper cover controls the temperature of the crisper and prevents moisture loss. Use the sliding vent to adjust the humidity level inside the drawer.

Diagram shows a humidity control slider.

Using your freezer compartment

Cleaning and maintaining your refrigerator

Your refrigerator is designed for year-round use with only minimal cleaning and maintenance.

When you first receive it, wipe the cabinet with a mild detergent and warm water, then wipe dry. Do this periodically to keep your refrigerator looking new.

Caution:

Cleaning the interior

Note: Do not use soap, detergent, scrub powder, or spray cleaners as these may cause odors inside your refrigerator or contaminate food.

Cleaning the exterior

Note: The drain tray is located near the compressor. You do not need to empty or clean it.

Defrosting the freezer

This refrigerator is frost free, so you don't need to defrost it. If frost forms because of a change in season or temperature, you can manually remove it by unplugging your refrigerator or wiping with a dry towel.

Changing the interior LED light

The LED light is designed for a long life. It is not user serviceable and should be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or a similarly qualified person.

Shutting down your refrigerator for several months

  1. Turn off your refrigerator and unplug it from the wall outlet.
  2. Remove all food.
  3. Clean your refrigerator.
  4. Leave the door open to avoid formation of condensation, mold, or odor.

WARNING: Use extreme caution with children. Your refrigerator should not be accessible to child's play.

Handling power outages

In case of a power outage, food inside your refrigerator can be kept for several hours (even during the summer). While the power is out, keep the doors closed as much as possible, and do not add additional food.

Moving your refrigerator

  1. Turn off your refrigerator and unplug it from the wall outlet.
  2. Remove all food.
  3. Securely tape down all loose items inside your refrigerator, such as the glass shelves and crisper drawers.
  4. Tape the doors shut.
  5. Tighten the front leveling feet (rotate counter-clockwise).
  6. While moving, keep your refrigerator in an upright position and do not let it vibrate excessively. Do not tilt your refrigerator more than 45°.
