Creality CR-Scan Raptor 3D Scanner Guide

Scanning Procedures

5. Adjusting Scan Distance and Exposure: Position the scanner and test piece at the optimal distance. The scanner's LED indicator turning green or the distance indicator bar on the software interface showing optimal status signifies the correct scanning distance. Adjust the camera exposure time and laser brightness for adequate illumination of markers and laser, avoiding overexposure. Beginners can utilize the software's automatic mode, while manual adjustment is recommended for experienced users.

6. Initiating a Scan: Press the [scan] button on the scanner or click the [scan] button on the software interface. Keep the scanner pointed at the object and begin scanning.

7. Completing a 360° Scan: Scan the object from all angles. To finish the scan, press and hold the [scan] button on the scanner for over 3 seconds, or click the [complete scan] button on the software interface. This initiates post-processing within the Creality Scan software to generate a complete 3D model. It is recommended to set the point distance to 0.1mm for optimal results.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1) Achieving Better Model Details

  • The blue light mode offers higher precision than the infrared mode.
  • Adjust the IR camera's exposure time during scanning for moderate exposure. Overexposure appears red, underexposure appears blue. In blue light mode, adjust laser intensity appropriately.
  • Maintain the optimal scanning distance; closer proximity without losing tracking generally yields better details.
  • During point cloud optimization, use a smaller point distance. For small objects, set the point distance to 0.1mm.
  • Ensure a sufficient number of model faces during meshing.

2) Scanning the Bottom of an Object

  • Creality Scan software supports multi-project merging for complete object models from multiple scans.
  • Scan the visible portion first, then flip the object and continue scanning by backtracking to obtain a complete model. This method is effective when marker points are attached to the object's surface.

3) When to Use a Scanning Pad

Use a scanning pad when scanning smaller objects, such as small parts or figures. Place marker points on the pad and scan in marker point mode.

4) When to Use Marker Point Mode

  • Blue light mode requires reflective marker points.
  • Infrared mode: Use marker points on objects lacking rich geometric features.

5) When to Use Texture Mode

Use texture mode when the object's surface lacks rich geometric features but has distinct textures, such as a vase.

6) When Calibration is Required

Calibration is needed after extended periods of non-use (e.g., 3 months) or after the device experiences a collision.

7) Using Calibration Boards from Other Models

Each calibration card is unique to its scanner and cannot be interchanged. Initial use requires scanning the calibration board to bind it to the scanner via the QR code on the back to ensure accurate calibration.

8) Storing Calibration Boards

After each use, return the calibration board to its box for proper storage. Avoid contamination, scratching, or applying heavy pressure to prevent damage or loss.

9) Performing Calibration

Connect the scanner to a computer, open the Creality Scan software, navigate to the [Device] interface, click [Calibration], and follow the on-screen animated instructions.

Troubleshooting

Windows System Computer Not Connecting to Scanner

  • For desktop computers, connect to a USB 3.0 port on the back of the main unit (typically blue or red).
  • Ensure the system used is Windows 10/11 64-bit.
  • The installation path for the Creality Scan software must be in English.

  • Verify that the computer configuration meets the minimum requirements for the scanner.
  • Ensure the provided power adapter is used and properly connected.
  • Check Windows Device Manager for "CR-Scan Raptor..." under "Cameras".
  • In Windows Settings > Privacy > Camera, confirm that system camera permissions are enabled and that desktop applications have access.

  • Verify that the computer configuration meets the minimum requirements for the scanner.
  • Ensure the provided power adapter is used and properly connected.
  • Update the scanner to the latest firmware version.
  • Use a separate USB Type A to Thunderbolt or USB3 adapter. Avoid multi-functional USB-C adapters.
  • Install CrealityScan directly in the App directory, not in a subdirectory.

USB 3.0 Interface Recognized as USB 2.0 in Windows System

Try quickly re-inserting the USB cable. Alternatively, connect the USB cable to the PC's USB 3.0 port first, then to the scanner's USB-C interface.
