Ubiquiti UniFi U7 LR Access Point Installation Guide

Before You Begin

This guide outlines the installation process for the Ubiquiti UniFi U7 LR Access Point. Ensure you have the necessary tools and components before starting.

Required Tools:

Included Parts:

Step 1: Mark Mounting Location

Place the mounting bracket (c) against the wall where you intend to install the access point. Use a pencil to mark the screw hole locations.

Diagram shows a circular mounting bracket being held against a wall, with a pencil marking holes.

Step 2: Drill Pilot Holes

Using the Ø5 mm (3/16") drill bit, drill pilot holes at the marked locations on the wall.

Diagram shows a drill with a Ø5 mm bit creating holes in the wall. Blue dashed lines indicate the path of the drill.

Step 3: Drill Larger Holes (if needed)

If mounting on a surface that requires larger anchors or for cable pass-through, use the Ø18 mm (11/16") drill bit to enlarge the appropriate hole(s).

Diagram shows a drill with a Ø18 mm bit enlarging a hole in the wall. A blue dashed arrow indicates the direction.

Step 4: Insert Wall Anchors

Insert the wall anchors (g) into the drilled holes. Gently tap them in if necessary until they are flush with the wall surface.

Diagram shows wall anchors being inserted into the wall holes. A close-up shows an anchor being pushed into place.

Step 5: Attach Mounting Bracket

Align the mounting bracket (c) with the wall anchors. Secure the bracket to the wall using the mounting screws (h) and a screwdriver. Ensure the bracket is firmly attached.

Diagram shows the mounting bracket being screwed into the wall anchors. A close-up shows a screw being driven into an anchor with a Phillips head screwdriver.

Step 6: Connect Ethernet Cable

Connect an Ethernet cable (carrying PoE power) to the port on the back of the UniFi U7 LR Access Point (a). The cable should be routed through the wall or ceiling to the mounting location.

Diagram shows an Ethernet cable connector being plugged into the access point. The access point is shown separate from the bracket.

Step 7: Mount Access Point

Align the UniFi U7 LR Access Point (a) with the mounting bracket (c) on the wall. Push the access point onto the bracket and rotate it clockwise until it locks into place. A click sound or tactile feedback indicates it is secured.

Diagram shows the access point being attached to the bracket. A dashed blue arrow indicates the motion of connecting and locking. A circular arrow with '2' and a lock icon indicates the locking action. A close-up shows the alignment points.

Step 8: Network Configuration Options

The UniFi U7 LR Access Point can be deployed in different network configurations. Two common scenarios are illustrated:

Option A: Direct Connection

? Internet

?️ UniFi Cloud Gateway

?️ Switching

? UniFi Access Point (U7 LR)

Diagram shows a linear network path from Internet to Access Point via Gateway and Switch.

Option B: Via PoE Switch

? Internet

?️ UniFi Cloud Gateway

?️ Switching

⚡ PoE

? UniFi Access Point (U7 LR)

Diagram shows a network path where the Access Point connects to a PoE-enabled switch, which is then connected to the Gateway and Internet.

Note: The diagram for Option B also shows a separate path for the UniFi Access Point connecting directly to PoE power and then to the network, indicating it can be powered via PoE injector or switch.

Step 9: Setup and Management

Download the UniFi Network application from the App Store (Apple) or Google Play Store (Android) to manage your UniFi devices, including the U7 LR Access Point. Follow the in-app instructions to discover and adopt the access point into your network.

Diagram shows icons for Apple App Store and Google Play Store, followed by links, and then a smartphone displaying the UniFi app icon and name.
