Operation
Surface Temperature Measurement
Note: The ThermoPro TP30 cannot measure the temperature of objects behind glass. Inaccuracy may also occur when exposed to steam, dust, or other contaminants in the air.
- Place the included AAA batteries into the Battery Compartment.
- Press the Measurement Trigger to activate the thermometer.
- Point the TP30 thermometer towards the surface you wish to measure.
- Press and hold the Measurement Trigger; the laser will activate for aiming guidance (laser is on by default).
- To take a continuous measurement, keep holding the Measurement Trigger while moving the TP30.
- Once the laser is pointed at the desired measurement point, release the Measurement Trigger. The Upper Display will show the last measured temperature.
- Press the Measurement Trigger again to take another measurement.
Emissivity
Emissivity is a material's efficiency in emitting thermal energy. Non-reflective surfaces have higher emissivity (closer to 1) than reflective surfaces (closer to 0). Inaccurate results may occur when measuring reflective surfaces like glass, polished wood, and granite.
To improve accuracy for reflective surfaces with low emissivity, place a strip of masking tape over the surface. Allow it to adjust to the surface temperature for approximately 30 minutes. Then, measure the taped section to eliminate inaccuracy.
The default emissivity of this device is 0.95, suitable for most organic materials and painted objects. Refer to the table below for improved accuracy with different objects:
Objects | Emissivity | Objects | Emissivity | Objects | Emissivity |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Aluminum | 0.30 | Iron | 0.70 | Frozen food | 0.90 |
Asbestos | 0.95 | Lead | 0.50 | Steel | 0.80 |
Asphalt | 0.95 | Limestone | 0.98 | Fabric | 0.94 |
Basalt | 0.70 | Oil | 0.94 | Glass | 0.85 |
Brass | 0.50 | Paint | 0.93 | Water | 0.93 |
Brick | 0.90 | Paper | 0.95 | Wood | 0.94 |
Carbon | 0.85 | Plastic | 0.95 | ||
Ceramics | 0.95 | Rubber | 0.95 | ||
Concrete | 0.95 | Sand | 0.90 | ||
Copper | 0.95 | Skin | 0.98 | ||
Sludge | 0.94 | Snow | 0.90 |
Distance-Spot Ratio
The ThermoPro TP30 measures surface temperature based on the distance-to-spot diameter ratio (D:S). As the distance increases, the measured surface area also increases. With a D:S ratio of 12:1, the measured surface area has a diameter of approximately 1/12 of the distance.
For accurate results, ensure the target's surface area is at least twice the spot diameter. Insufficient surface area leads to inaccurate readings. The recommended measurement distance is 7.87 inches (20cm) from the surface, creating a spot measurement area of 0.66 inches (1.67cm) in diameter.
Distance(D) to Spot (S) size: D:S=12:1
- At D=9.45in (24cm), Spot Diameter (S) = 0.79in (2cm)
- At D=14.17in (36cm), Spot Diameter (S) = 1.18in (3cm)
Replacing Batteries
The Low Battery Indication will appear on the Upper Display when the batteries are running low. Replace them immediately.
- Open the Battery Compartment and remove the used batteries. Dispose of them properly.
- Insert two new AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
- Close the Battery Compartment.
Safe Use & Care
- ⚠️ DO NOT point the laser beam at another person or animal.
- ⚠️ DO NOT attempt to point the laser beam at an aircraft.
- Avoid direct/indirect eye contact with the laser beam, as laser radiation can cause eye damage.
- ⚠️ DO NOT view the beam with optical instruments.
- If using near bystanders, inform them of the dangers of looking directly into the laser beam.
- ⚠️ DO NOT allow children to operate the device.
- Use two 1.5V AAA batteries when replacing them.
- Ensure batteries are inserted with the correct polarities.
- ⚠️ ALWAYS remove batteries when cleaning the device.
- ⚠️ DO NOT use leaking batteries or dispose of old batteries in fire.
- Remove batteries if storing the device for a prolonged period.
- ⚠️ DO NOT disassemble or tamper with internal components, as this will void the warranty.
- ⚠️ DO NOT touch the lens or clean it with anything other than a soft cloth or cotton swab.
- Keep the thermometer away from electromagnetic fields produced by objects like arc welders and induction heaters.
- ⚠️ DO NOT expose the thermometer to direct heat sources for extended periods.
- The thermometer measures surface temperature, not internal temperature. Do not use it as a reliable source for measuring body temperatures.
Disposal
Meaning of the "Dustbin" Symbol: ?️
- Protect our environment: do not dispose of electrical equipment in domestic waste.
- Return electrical equipment you no longer use to designated collection points for disposal.
- This helps avoid potential negative effects of incorrect disposal on the environment and human health.
This contributes to the recycling and reuse of electrical and electronic equipment. Information on disposal can be obtained from your local authority.
CAUTION: Batteries/rechargeable batteries must not be disposed of with household waste!
- Batteries must be removed from the appliance.
- Take spent batteries to the appropriate collection point or a dealer.
- Your local authority can provide information about public collection points.
The following symbol indicates batteries/rechargeable batteries containing hazardous materials:
- Pb = contains lead
- Cd = contains cadmium
- Hg = contains mercury
- Li = contains lithium
