Epson SureColor F170: Setup and Operation Guide
Getting Started
This guide provides instructions for setting up and operating your Epson SureColor F170 printer. Please read these instructions and the safety information in the online User's Guide before using the product.
Important Notes:
- Do not open ink bottles until ready to fill ink tanks. Ink bottles are vacuum-packed for reliability. Leaving an ink bottle unpacked for an extended period before use may affect print quality.
- Dented ink bottles do not affect ink quality or quantity and can be used safely.
- Place the printer on a flat, stable surface in an environment with temperatures between 50°F and 95°F (10°C to 35°C) and humidity between 20% and 80%.
- Keep ink bottles out of reach of children and do not ingest ink.
- Handle ink carefully. If ink spills, wipe it off immediately with a damp towel to prevent permanent stains. Ink on clothes or belongings may not come off.
- Epson cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of third-party ink.
- This product is designed to work with genuine Epson inks. Non-Epson ink or ink not specified for this printer could cause damage not covered by Epson's warranties.
- Do not connect a USB cable unless instructed to do so.
Ink Filling Instructions
- Open the ink tank cover.
- Remove all protective materials from the ink bottles.
- Hold the black ink bottle upright and slowly turn the bottle cap to remove it to prevent ink leakage.
- Refer to the color-coded stickers to identify the color for each tank.
- Shake the ink bottle 15 times.
- Insert the ink bottle straight into the port to fill ink to the upper line. Ink flows into the tank and stops automatically when the upper line is reached. If ink does not flow, lift and reinsert the bottle.
- Do not force the bottle into position; each bottle is keyed for its specific color.
- Do not shake or squeeze the ink bottles. Do not touch the top of the ink bottle after its cap is removed.
- Do not leave the ink bottle inserted; it may be damaged or leak ink.
- Any remaining ink can be used to finish filling the ink tanks after initial setup. Close and store any remaining ink bottles for later use.
- Repeat steps for the other colors.
- Close the ink tank cover, then close the printer cover.
Important: After setup, periodically inspect ink levels. Prolonged use when ink is below the lowest line could damage the product. Refer to the online User's Guide for refilling instructions.
Printer Setup and Initial Charging
- Confirm that the ink tanks are filled with ink, then press the OK button to start charging the ink. Ink charging takes approximately 14 minutes. A message will appear when ink charging is complete.
- When ink charging is complete, the print quality adjustment screen appears on the LCD. Follow the on-screen instructions to adjust print quality.
- When the paper loading message appears on the LCD, proceed to section 2 (Paper Loading).
Note: The included ink bottles are for initial setup and cannot be resold. Part of the ink is used to charge the print head, so these bottles may print fewer pages than replacement ink bottles.
Paper Loading
- Open the front of the paper cassette and pull it out until it stops. Slide the side edge guides all the way out.
- Load paper that requires adjustment in the paper cassette with the printable side facing down. Slide the side edge guides against the paper, but not too tightly.
- Insert the paper cassette all the way in, then pull out the output tray.
Note: See the online User's Guide for information on loading capacity and available paper types and sizes.
