Important Safety Information
Before installing the Faber Inca Lux range hood, it is crucial to read and save all safety instructions. This document provides essential guidelines to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury. Key safety points include never leaving cooking surfaces unattended, turning on the hood when cooking at high heat, frequent cleaning of fans and filters, and using appropriate cookware. In case of a range top grease fire, follow specific procedures such as smothering flames with a lid or baking sheet and never using water. Ensure the unit is only used as intended by the manufacturer and that power is switched off at the service panel before servicing or cleaning. Installation work and electrical wiring must be performed by qualified personnel in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including fire-rated construction. Proper ventilation is critical for fuel-burning equipment to prevent backdrafting, so follow guidelines from manufacturers like NFPA and ASHRAE. Always seal wall and floor openings where the range hood is installed. A minimum clearance of 24 inches over electric cooktops and 30 inches over gas cooktops is required, though local codes may mandate higher clearances. Overhead cabinets must be at least 18 inches above the cooking surface.
Installation and Venting
The Inca Lux range hood offers ducted venting options, including vertical and horizontal configurations using 6" round metal ductwork. A non-ducted recirculation option is also available, which requires the purchase of an activated charcoal accessory. Ensure all ductwork joints are sealed with duct tape and exterior openings are sealed with caulking. For cold weather installations, an additional back draft damper and a nonmetallic thermal break should be installed. The venting system must terminate outside the home and should not be terminated in an attic or enclosed space. Avoid using 4" laundry-type wall caps and do not obstruct airflow. For mounting, cut an opening in the underside of the cabinet according to the provided dimensions for each model (21", 28", 35").
Electrical Requirements
A 120-volt, 60 Hz AC-only electrical supply is required, connected to a separate 15-amp fused circuit. A time-delay fuse or circuit breaker is recommended. The fuse must be sized according to local codes and the unit's electrical rating. Electrical grounding is mandatory. Do not use a cold water pipe for grounding if it is interrupted by nonmetallic components. Never ground to a gas pipe. Ensure there is no fuse in the neutral or grounding circuit to prevent electrical shock. Consult a qualified electrician if unsure about proper grounding. Failure to adhere to these electrical requirements may result in a fire.
Parts and Maintenance
The package includes the hood body, power cord, damper flaps, damper metal ring, recirculation vent grill, and covers. Additional parts needed include 6" round metal ductwork and a wall/roof cap, which must be purchased separately. Available accessories include charcoal filter kits and a remote control. For cleaning stainless steel, use a soft cloth and a mild detergent or a specialized stainless steel cleaner. Always wipe in the direction of the grain. Caring for filters involves regular cleaning or replacement as per the manual's instructions to maintain optimal performance. Replacing the lighting is also detailed in the manual.
