- LED Indicator Light & Light Sensor (front)
- Fresnel Lens (front)
- Base (with magnet, attaches to the back/bottom)
- Battery Case (on the back)
3. Preparation
You will need:
- A smartphone or tablet with Bluetooth 4.2 or later.
- The latest version of the SwitchBot app, downloadable from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
- A SwitchBot account (register or sign in via the app).
Note: A SwitchBot Hub Mini (sold separately) is required for Cloud Service features.
4. Getting Started
- Open the battery cover. Insert two AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+ and -). Close the battery cover until it clicks into place.
- Open the SwitchBot app and sign in to your account.
- Tap the "+" icon at the top right of the home page. Find and select the Motion Sensor icon, then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
5. Safety Information
- Keep the device away from humid or hot environments.
- Remove batteries when the device is not used for extended periods.
- Do not attempt to disassemble, repair, or modify the device.
- Use only the specified type of batteries.
6. Detection Range
The motion sensor has a detection range of up to 9 meters (29.5 ft.) horizontally and covers a 110° horizontal and 55° vertical field of view. Optimal detection is achieved when installed between 1.2m and 2m above the ground. Installation lower than 1.2m may reduce the range, while installation higher than 2m may create blind spots.
For pet owners, installing the sensor 0.1m to 0.2m higher than the pet, with the reset button facing down, can help prevent false alarms triggered by pets.
7. Light Sensor
The built-in Light Sensor detects ambient light levels, sensing whether the environment is bright or dark. Users can define the threshold for 'bright' or 'dark' within the SwitchBot app settings for customized automation.
8. How to Use
Installation Methods:
Reset Button Facing Up (Standard Installation):
Recommended installation height is 1.2 to 2 meters (3.9 to 6.6 ft.) above the ground. The detection range is affected by height, as described in the "Detection Range" section.
Reset Button Facing Down (for Pet Owners):
Recommended installation height is 0.1 to 0.2 meters (3.9 to 7.9 inches) higher than pets to prevent false alarms.
Placement without the Base:
Place the Motion Sensor directly on a table or shelf, or attach it to a flat surface using the 3M double-sided adhesive tape. Ensure the lens faces the desired detection area and is positioned near the edge of the surface.
Placement with the Base:
Mount the base to the back or bottom of the Motion Sensor. The base can be attached to an iron surface (magnetically) or affixed to a flat surface using the 3M double-sided adhesive tape. After installation, the base allows tilting the sensor to a desired angle. Ensure the lens faces the desired detection area and is positioned near the edge of the surface.
Tips for Applying Adhesive Tape:
Ensure the target surface is dry and clean. Apply firm pressure to the Motion Sensor or base for 60 seconds after installation. Keep the device away from heat sources like light bulbs.
9. Battery Replacement, Firmware Upgrades and Resetting Factory Settings
Battery Replacement:
Open the battery cover, remove the old batteries, and insert two new AAA batteries, observing polarity. Close the battery cover until it clicks into place.
Firmware Upgrades:
SwitchBot regularly releases firmware updates to improve user experience, introduce new features, and fix software defects. When a new version is available, you will receive a notification in the app. Ensure the product has sufficient battery and your smartphone is within range during the upgrade process to prevent interference.
Resetting Factory Settings:
Long press the Reset button for 15 seconds, or until the LED indicator light turns on. After resetting, all settings will revert to default values, and logs will be erased.
10. Troubleshooting
- Q: It is not sensitive within the detection range set during high temperature.
- A: When room temperature reaches 36 °C (97 °F), which is close to human body temperature, the Motion Sensor's sensitivity may decrease. Cool the room by using an air conditioner or fan.
- Q: There are a lot of false alarms.
- A: Adjust the angle of your Motion Sensor to avoid areas like windows, heat sources, or places with constantly moving objects.
- Q: How to enable Cloud Services?
- A: A SwitchBot Hub Mini (sold separately) is required for Cloud Services. After setting up the Hub Mini, navigate to the app homepage. If a cloud icon appears on the Motion Sensor card, it indicates it's being scanned by the Hub Mini. Tap the card, go to Settings, and enable Cloud Services.
