Important Warnings and Notes

WARNING:

  • Electro Static Discharge (ESD): PIB components can be damaged by ESD. Take proper ESD precautions when handling.
  • Thermal Solution: A thermal solution must be used to comply with the AMD Limited Warranty. Use the included thermal solution or one that meets or exceeds AMD's requirements (see www.amd.com/support).
  • Voltage Application: Do not apply voltage until the thermal solution is fully installed. Applying voltage before full installation may cause the processor to overheat and fail.
  • Operating Specifications: The PIB is intended for use only within associated AMD published specifications and factory settings. Using the PIB outside of these specifications or with incompatible socket infrastructure may damage the processor and/or system components, lead to instability, reduce performance, shorten component life, or cause total system failure. Damage caused by use outside of AMD specifications or instructions is not covered under any AMD product warranty.

Read through and understand all installation instructions completely before you begin.

Motherboard Compatibility and BIOS Updates

VERIFY THAT YOUR MOTHERBOARD SUPPORTS YOUR PROCESSOR.

The AMD Socket AM5 platform is designed for scalability. To confirm your motherboard's support, refer to the CPU Support List document on your motherboard manufacturer's website.

BIOS updates may be available from your motherboard manufacturer to improve system performance or support newer processors. If your processor requires an updated BIOS, the system may not boot initially. Consult the AMD support website at www.amd.com/support for assistance.

Installation Instructions for AMD AM5 CPUs

AM5 CPUs are ONLY compatible with Socket AM5 motherboards.

Step 1: Begin installation with the socket facing you as shown. [Diagram: Motherboard socket oriented towards the user.]

Step 2: Open/Unlock the socket frame. [Diagram: Socket lever being lifted to unlock the retention arm.]

Step 3: Align Pin 01 Indicators. Pin 01 indicators (small arrows) are located in the top left corners of the socket and processor. Ensure these indicators are correctly aligned before inserting the processor into the socket. [Diagram: Close-up showing the small arrow on the processor aligning with the arrow on the socket.]

Step 4: Close the socket frame. [Diagram: Socket lever being pushed down to secure the processor.]

Step 5: Flip the lever up to lock the processor in the socket. [Diagram: Socket lever in the fully locked position.]

Step 6: Final locked lever position and correct orientation of processor and socket. [Diagram: Top-down view of the correctly installed processor in the locked socket.]

Thermal Solution Installation

Option: AMD Wraith Stealth (SR1) Thermal Solution

Step 1: Carefully place the heatsink on the processor. Gently tighten screws to secure. [Diagram: Heatsink being placed onto the CPU, with screws being tightened.]

Step 2: Plug in the fan. [Diagram: CPU fan cable being connected to the motherboard fan header.]

Option: AMD Wraith Prism (SR4) Thermal Solution

Step 1: Attach retention hooks. Gently tighten screws to secure. [Diagram: Retention brackets being attached to the motherboard around the CPU socket, with screws tightened.]

Step 2: Carefully place the heatsink on the processor. [Diagram: Heatsink being placed onto the CPU.]

Step 3: Lock the retention clip to secure the heatsink. [Diagram: Retention clip on the heatsink being engaged to secure it to the brackets.]

Step 4: Plug in the fan and RGB lighting (if applicable). [Diagram: CPU fan cable and RGB cable being connected to their respective motherboard headers.]

Regulatory Information (China)

This section details compliance for electronic information products imported and sold in the People's Republic of China. It lists hazardous substances and their presence in components, with an environmental protection use period of 20 years.

Component Name Hazardous Substance Lead (Pb) Mercury (Hg) Cadmium (Cd) Hexavalent Chromium (Cr VI) Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB) Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE)
Integrated Circuit (集成电路) 0 0 0 0 0 0
Fan or Heat Sink (风扇或者是散热器) 0 0 0 0 0 0

0 indicates that the concentration of the hazardous substance in all homogeneous materials in the component is below the limit concentration specified in SJ/T 11364. X indicates that the concentration of the hazardous substance in at least one of the homogeneous materials in the component is above the limit concentration specified in SJ/T 11364. As per SJ/T 11364, components marked with 'X' do not necessarily mean the product is hazardous, as the substance may be present due to technological limitations and cannot be replaced or reduced.
