Step 3: Install the timer.
A. Single-Pole Installation
This describes a conventional single-pole installation.
Wiring:
- Ground wire: Connect the Ground wire in the wall box (or the earth screw) to the timer's GREEN wire.
- Neutral wire: Connect the Neutral wire in the wall box (from breaker) to the timer's WHITE wire. (The Neutral wire from the breaker should also be connected to the load's neutral wire.)
- Hot wire: Connect the hot wire in the wall box (from breaker) to the timer's BLACK wire.
- Load wire: Connect the load's hot wire (from the load, such as a light) to the timer's RED wire.
- The timer's BLUE wire should be capped off for safety.
B. 3-Way Installation
This describes a conventional 3-way installation. Ensure a neutral wire is available in the wall box.
Wiring (Timer-on-the-line-side installation):
- Ground wire: Connect the Ground wire in the wall box (or the earth screw) to the timer's GREEN wire.
- Neutral wire: Connect the Neutral wire in the wall box (from breaker) to the timer's WHITE wire. (The Neutral wire from the breaker should also be connected to the load's neutral wire.)
- Hot wire: Connect the hot wire in the wall box (from breaker) to the timer's BLACK wire.
- Travelers: Connect Traveler 1 (from the LINE side) to the timer's RED wire. Connect Traveler 2 (from the LINE side) to the timer's BLUE wire.
Wiring the LOAD side:
- Connect Traveler 1 (from the timer) and the load's hot wire to the COMMON terminal (usually black or copper colored) of the 3-way switch.
- Connect Traveler 2 (from the timer) to either terminal (usually brass colored) of the 3-way switch.
C. 4-Way Installation
This describes a conventional 4-way installation using one 3-way switch and one 4-way switch, with the timer on the line side. Ensure a neutral wire is available and mark all traveler wires for identification.
- Travelers (from LINE side 3-way switch to TIMER): Connect Traveler 1 from the LINE side 3-way switch to the timer's RED wire. Connect Traveler 2 from the LINE side 3-way switch to the timer's BLUE wire.
Wiring the 4-way switch:
- Connect Traveler 1 (from the LINE side, connected to timer's RED wire) to one terminal of the 4-way switch.
- Connect Traveler 2 (from the LINE side, connected to timer's BLUE wire) to another terminal of the 4-way switch.
- Connect Traveler 3 (from the 4-way switch) to one terminal of the LOAD side 3-way switch.
- Connect Traveler 4 (from the 4-way switch) to the other terminal of the LOAD side 3-way switch.
Wiring the LOAD side:
- Connect the wire going to the device (load) to the COMMON terminal of the LOAD side 3-way switch.
Step 4: Fix the timer to the wiring box and then mount the face plate.
Step 5: Apply power to the wiring box.
