A Complete Family of Products
SunStar offers a comprehensive line of infrared heating products, including tube heaters, ceramic heaters, and construction heaters. All SunStar heaters are available for use with either natural gas or propane. The product line includes positive and negative pressure tube heaters ranging from 40,000 to 200,000 BTU/hr. The SunStar “Eclipse” series features compact tube heaters (9' 2” overall length) certified for residential garage applications, available in sizes from 25,000-45,000 BTU/Hr. Additional offerings include high-intensity ceramic infrared heaters with direct spark ignition and millivolt control, ranging from 26,000-155,000 BTU/Hr. For temporary heating needs, SunStar provides the robust, 100,000 BTU/Hr RCH series construction heaters, available with manual or thermostatically controlled options.
Heat Like the Sun
SunStar infrared heaters operate by transferring radiant heat energy directly to objects and people, mimicking the sun's warming effect. This radiant heat is absorbed and then re-radiated, creating a comfortable zone at floor level rather than at the ceiling. This principle is similar to how the sun warms the Earth.
Competitive Heaters Are Blowing Hot Air
Conventional forced air heating systems heat the air, which rises to the ceiling and must stratify downwards. This method is inefficient, especially when doors open, causing heat loss. Infrared heat, however, warms from the floor up, ensuring the occupied space is heated first. This allows for quicker recovery and more efficient heating, even with frequent door usage.
Diagram Description: Convection vs. Infrared Heat
Convection Heat: Illustrates forced air heating from the top down, warming the air first and stratifying from the ceiling. This results in wasted heat in the upper areas of the building.
Infrared Heat: Depicts heating from the bottom up, warming people, floors, objects, and machines directly. Comfortable heat is retained in the lower working areas of the building.
Lower Your Fuel Bills
Gas infrared heat provides both warmth and comfort. Many applications see fuel savings between 30% to 50% compared to forced air systems, with some large buildings reporting savings as high as 70%. SunStar products offer not only reduced energy costs but also lower maintenance costs, providing real comfort, versatility, and unbeatable value.
Infrared Tube Heaters
SPS & SPU Series (Push Through - Positive Pressure)
SPS Series: Available in multiple configurations (straight, L, Z, and expanded U-configuration) with lengths up to 70 feet. Ideal for complete building heating.
SPU Series: Provides more uniform radiant heat energy distribution. Ideal for high heat loss areas and spot heating.
SunStar infrared tube heaters are ideal for complete building heat or spot heating needs. They are best suited for applications where doors open and close frequently and in buildings with ceiling heights above ten feet. The flexible SunStar infrared heating system can be designed to meet most commercial or industrial heating needs.
Clearances To Combustibles
Infrared heater installations require minimum clearances from combustible materials. These clearances can vary from 40" to 132" based on the model and heater type. For specific clearance information, please visit www.sunstarheaters.com for individual product specification sheets and Installation & Operating Instructions.
Minimum Mounting Heights
Minimum mounting heights are provided as a guideline for human comfort and uniform energy distribution. Mount heaters as high as possible. For spot or area heating applications, always use a U-tube heater configuration, as straight tubes are hotter at the burner end than at the exhaust end.

Model Selection
Model numbers are based on BTU/Hr input (e.g., 100,000 BTU/Hr), total emitter length (e.g., 40 feet), and control suffix for gas type (e.g., natural gas - Single Stage (N5) or Two Stage (N7)). For example, the model number for a pull-through (negative pressure) straight tube heater with Single Stage natural gas control would be SIS100-40-N5. For the same example, the U-tube heater model number would be SIU100-40-N5. For a push-through (positive pressure) straight tube heater with a Two Stage natural gas control, it would be SPS100-40-N7. The U-tube heater model number would be SPU100-40-N7.
Tough Guy Option
SunStar offers a "Tough Guy" option for more corrosive and harsh environments, featuring heat-treated aluminized steel tubes. For the example above, a pull-through (negative pressure) straight tube heater with the "Tough Guy" option would be SIS100-40-TG-N5. This option is recommended for dairy barns, greenhouses, swimming pools, waste water treatment plants, chemical plants, and other high humidity or corrosive environments. The SPS or SPU series with the "Tough Guy" Option is also highly recommended for car wash applications.
