- Press the Shutter button [Shutter Button] again to stop recording (for video, slow motion, and 4:3 video only).
When GoPro is OFF:
Pressing the Shutter button [Shutter Button] while the GoPro is off activates QuikCapture, the fastest and simplest way to turn on your GoPro and start recording video.
- With the camera off, press the Shutter button [Shutter Button].
- Press the Shutter button [Shutter Button] again to stop recording and turn off the camera.
Pro Tip: QuikCapture only turns on the camera when recording, making it an excellent way to maximize battery life.
4. Shooting Modes and Settings
4.1 Changing Shooting Modes
Use the touchscreen to easily select your desired shooting mode by swiping left or right [Swipe Left/Right].
After switching to your desired shooting mode, simply press the Shutter button [Shutter Button] to capture great shots.
Pro Tip: While your GoPro is on, you can press the Power/Mode button [Power/Mode Button] to switch modes. This is especially useful when the screen is wet and unresponsive to touch.
4.2 GoPro Modes Explained
Your GoPro offers four shooting modes:
- 4:3 Video (4:3 Aspect Ratio): Record in ultra-high definition 4K or 1440p resolution with a 4:3 aspect ratio for a taller field of view compared to 16:9, offering a more immersive experience. Ideal for first-person perspectives.
- Video (16:9 Aspect Ratio): Record in ultra-high definition 4K or 1080p resolution with a wide field of view. All footage is captured in a 16:9 aspect ratio, perfect for full-screen playback on TVs or phones.
- Photo: The LIT HERO captures 12MP wide-angle photos with a 4:3 aspect ratio suitable for a variety of scenes.
- Slow Motion (16:9 Aspect Ratio): Record in 4K or 1080p resolution at 60/50 frames per second (fps), allowing you to play back footage at normal speed or in 2x slow motion. All footage is captured in a wide 16:9 aspect ratio, suitable for full-screen playback on TVs or phones.
Note: The frame rates listed here are for 60Hz (NTSC) and 50Hz (PAL) video formats and depend on your region.
4.3 Adjusting Shooting Settings
Settings can be adjusted for Video and Slow Motion modes. Tap "Video" or "Slow Motion" at the bottom of the screen to switch modes.
Adjusting Video/Slow Motion Settings:
- Video Mode Options: 4K30/25, 1080p30/25 (Power Save Mode)
- Slow Motion Mode Options: 4K60/50, 1080p60/50 (Power Save Mode)
Videos recorded at 60/50 fps offer smoother motion compared to 30/25 fps and can be played back at normal speed or in 2x slow motion.
The Power Save mode option reduces video resolution to extend battery life as much as possible. Video quality will be slightly reduced, but you can record for longer and save smaller video files.
4.4 Using the Light
The LIT HERO's built-in light can illuminate scenes and help you capture great shots in low light conditions.
Light Settings:
Press the Light Control button [Light Control Button] on the front of the camera to cycle through brightness levels: low, medium, high, and off.
Pro Tip: The light can be used even when the camera is off. It can also be used when the camera is plugged in and charging.
Important Notes:
- Using the light consumes battery power, similar to the camera itself. It will reduce recording time.
- If the battery level is low, the light will automatically turn off. The camera will notify you on the next power-on.
- The light can only be turned on when the battery has sufficient charge. The camera will indicate low battery if it's on.
4.5 HyperSmooth Advanced Video Stabilization
GoPro Quik app uses HyperSmooth Advanced Video Stabilization to turn shaky footage into smooth, cinematic video. This feature automatically stabilizes your footage when viewed or edited within the app.
You can use the app to save stabilized footage, share it, or use it to create highlight videos.
Note: Stabilization effects are not applied when viewing footage directly on the camera, through third-party apps, or in the gopro.com media library.

9. Important Information
9.1 Camera Overheating
When your camera overheats and needs to cool down, a temperature icon will appear on the touchscreen. The camera can detect risky situations where it reaches high-temperature limits and will shut down if necessary. Simply let the camera rest until it cools down, and it will be ready to use again.
Note: The LIT HERO has an operating temperature range of -10°C to 35°C (14°F to 95°F) and a charging temperature range of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F). High temperatures will cause the camera to consume more power, thus draining the battery faster.
Pro Tip: Shooting in high resolution and high frame rates can also cause the camera to heat up faster, especially in hot weather. Try switching to a lower resolution and frame rate to reduce the risk of your GoPro overheating.
9.2 SD Card Errors
Your GoPro can detect various issues with your SD card. Problems can be caused by electrostatic discharge, but are not limited to this. If you encounter such issues, restart your camera. The system will automatically attempt to repair any corrupted files and restore your camera to full functionality.
9.3 File Repair
Your GoPro automatically attempts to repair corrupted files. Files can become corrupted if the camera loses power during recording or if there are issues saving files. A "File Repair" icon will appear on the touchscreen during the repair process. The camera will notify you once the files have been repaired.
9.4 Storage Full
Your camera will notify you when the SD card is full. If you wish to continue recording, you will need to move or delete some files.
9.5 SD Card Rating
Your camera requires an SD card with an A2 and V30 rating or higher for optimal performance. If your SD card has a rating below A2 and V30, or if its performance degrades and it can no longer meet standard requirements, your camera will issue a reminder.
9.6 Low Battery
A low battery message will appear on the touchscreen when the battery level drops below 10%. If the battery runs out of power while recording video, the camera will stop recording, save the video, and shut down.
10. Resetting the Camera
10.1 Rebooting GoPro
If your camera is unresponsive, press and hold the Mode button [Mode Button] for 10 seconds. This will reboot the camera without changing any settings.

- Interlock the folding fingers on your camera with the mounting fingers on the buckle.
- Secure your camera to the mounting buckle using the thumb screw [Thumb Screw].
Attaching the Mounting Buckle to a Mount:
- Flip up the mounting buckle's locking tab.
- Slide the buckle into the mount until it clicks into place.
- Press the tab back down to be flush with the buckle.
11.3 Magnetic Mounts
Magnetic mounts and magnetic ball joint mounts (sold separately) make it easy to position your GoPro. Simply attach them to a hand grip, vehicle mount, or other gear. The strong magnets help align your GoPro, and you just snap it into place. A gentle press on the auto-engaging latch releases your GoPro for quicker switching between your favorite mounts.
11.4 1/4-20 Mount
In addition to mounting adapters, your GoPro is equipped with a 1/4-20 mounting thread. This is compatible with most standard camera mounts and accessories.
⚠️ Warning: In extreme conditions, using a 1/4-20 mount may cause your GoPro to loosen or shift. For extreme conditions, using a mounting adapter provides a more secure attachment.
11.5 Adhesive Mounts
Follow these instructions to attach adhesive mounts to helmets, vehicles, and gear:
- Install the mount at least 24 hours before use.
- Only apply mounts to smooth surfaces. They will not adhere properly to porous or textured surfaces.
- Press the mount firmly into the desired position. Ensure the adhesive makes full contact with the surface.
- Use only on clean, dry surfaces. Wax, oil, dirt, or other debris can reduce adhesion and may cause the camera to detach.
- Install mounts in dry, room-temperature conditions. Adhesion is poor in cold or damp conditions, or on cold or damp surfaces.
- Check national and local laws and regulations to ensure that it is legal to mount your camera to the specific equipment (e.g., hunting gear). Always comply with regulations that restrict the use of consumer electronics or cameras.
⚠️ Warning: To prevent injury, do not use straps when mounting your camera to your helmet. Never mount your camera directly to skis or snowboards.
For more information on mounts, visit gopro.com.
11.6 Helmet Mounts & Safety
⚠️ Warning: Always use a helmet that meets applicable safety standards when using GoPro helmet mounts or straps. Choose a helmet appropriate for your activity and ensure it fits properly. Inspect the helmet for damage and always follow the manufacturer's safety instructions. Replace any helmet that has sustained a significant impact. No helmet can guarantee complete protection in every accident. Prioritize safety.
11.7 Underwater Use
Your GoPro is waterproof up to 5 meters (16 feet) when the protective cover is latched. No additional housing is needed for diving. The touchscreen is designed to work in wet conditions, but may require drying if it becomes unresponsive.
Pro Tip: Use a Floaty accessory (sold separately) to keep your camera afloat if it detaches from its mount.
For more information on the Floaty, visit gopro.com.
12. Removing and Reinstalling the Protective Cover
You may need to remove the camera's protective cover at times.
Note: Only remove the protective cover in a dry, dust-free environment. The camera is not waterproof when the cover is open or removed.

- Unlock the latch, then open the cover.
- With the cover in a horizontal position, gently push it outward until it clicks shut.
12.2 Reinstalling the Protective Cover
- Align the cover with the silver bar.
- Press the cover firmly onto the silver bar until it clicks into place and is securely attached.
⚠️ Warning: The camera's protective cover is removable. Ensure it is securely latched and sealed when closed.
13. Maintenance
Follow these maintenance tips to ensure your camera always performs optimally:
- Your GoPro is waterproof up to 5 meters (16 feet) and does not require additional housing. Always close all covers before using it underwater, in dusty, or sandy environments.
- Before closing covers, ensure the seal area is free of debris. Clean the seal with a cloth if necessary.
- Ensure your GoPro is dry and clean before opening covers. Rinse the camera with fresh water and dry with a cloth if needed.
- If sand or debris is firmly stuck to the cover, soak the camera in warm tap water for 15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly to remove debris. Ensure the camera is dry before opening the cover.
- For optimal audio performance, shake the camera or blow into the microphones to clear water and debris from the small microphone ports. Do not use compressed air on the microphone ports, as this can damage the internal waterproof membrane.
- After each use in saltwater, rinse your camera with fresh water and dry with a soft cloth.
- The lens cover is made of extremely hard, reinforced glass, but it can still scratch or break. Clean it with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- If debris gets stuck between the lens and the trim ring, rinse with fresh water or blow it clear. Do not insert foreign objects around the lens.
14. Battery Information
The camera and battery are integrated and cannot be removed. The battery is not serviceable. Contact GoPro Customer Support for all battery-related inquiries.
When the battery level drops below 40%, the battery icon on the camera's status screen will turn yellow. If the level drops below 20%, the icon will turn red. If the battery depletes to 0% during recording, the camera will save its files and shut down.
Recording While Plugged In
You can record while your camera is plugged into a USB power adapter or other external power source using the included USB-C to USB-C cable. This is ideal for recording long videos.
Be careful not to touch the area near the SD card slot while recording. Disturbing the SD card may interrupt or stop recording. If this happens, your camera will notify you. Your footage will not be damaged or lost, but you may need to restart your camera to continue. The battery will not charge during recording even when plugged in; it will begin charging once recording stops. Recording is not possible when the camera is connected to a computer.
Note: The camera is not waterproof when the cover is open during charging.
⚠️ Warning: Using a non-GoPro wall charger or power cable may damage your camera's battery and could cause a fire or leak. Only use chargers with an output of 5V 1A. If you are unsure of the charger's voltage and amperage, use the included USB-C to USB-C cable to charge your camera via a computer.
Battery Storage & Disposal
Your GoPro contains sensitive components, including the battery. Avoid exposing the camera to extreme heat or cold. Extreme temperatures may temporarily shorten battery life or cause the camera to stop functioning. Avoid rapid changes in temperature or humidity, which can cause condensation to form on or inside the camera.
Never dry your camera with a microwave oven or an electric hair dryer. Damage to the camera or battery from liquid exposure is not covered by warranty.
Do not make any modifications to the camera without authorization. Doing so could compromise safety, compliance, and performance, and may void your warranty.
Note: Battery capacity is reduced in cold weather. To maximize battery life in cold environments, keep your camera in a warm place before using it.
Pro Tip: Fully charging your camera before storing it will help maximize its battery life.
Battery Disposal
⚠️ Warning: Do not drop, disassemble, open, crush, bend, modify, puncture, cut, microwave, incinerate, or paint your camera or battery. Do not insert foreign objects into any openings of the camera, such as the USB-C port. Do not use a camera that is damaged (e.g., cracked, punctured, or water-damaged). Disassembling or puncturing the built-in battery may cause an explosion or fire.
Most rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are classified as non-hazardous waste and can be disposed of safely with regular municipal waste. Many areas require battery recycling. Check your local laws to determine if you can dispose of your camera and battery as regular trash.
Lithium-ion batteries contain recyclable materials and can be recycled through the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC) program. Visit call2recycle.org or call 1-800-BATTERY for locations in North America.
Do not dispose of batteries in fire, as they may explode.
15. Troubleshooting
GoPro Won't Turn On
Ensure your GoPro is charged. See "Getting Started" (Page 8). If the battery won't charge, try restarting the camera. See "Resetting the Camera" (Page 47).
My GoPro Is Unresponsive When I Press Buttons
See "Resetting the Camera" (Page 47).
Playback Is Not Smooth on a Computer
Choppy playback is usually not an issue with the file itself. If footage jumps, it may be due to one of the following:
- Footage cannot be stabilized when played using a third-party app. Download the GoPro Player app to view and export stabilized footage on your computer. Visit gopro.com/info/gop-player.
- Your computer cannot handle HEVC files. Try downloading the latest version of GoPro Player for Mac or Windows for free from gopro.com/apps.
- Your computer does not meet the minimum requirements for the playback software you are using.
