This warranty is in lieu of and excludes all other warranties not expressly set forth herein, whether expressed or implied by operation of law or otherwise, including but not limited to any implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.

No representation or warranty, express or implied, made by any sales representative, distributor, or other agent or representative of APG which is not specifically set forth herein shall be binding upon APG. APG shall not be liable for any incidental or consequential damages, losses or expenses directly or indirectly arising from the sale, handling, improper application or use of the goods or from any other cause relating thereto and APG's liability hereunder, in any case, is expressly limited to the repair or replacement (at APG's option) of goods.

Warranty is specifically at the factory. Any on-site service will be provided at the sole expense of the Purchaser at standard field service rates.

All associated equipment must be protected by properly rated electronic/electrical protection devices. APG shall not be liable for any damage due to improper engineering or installation by the Purchaser or third parties. Proper installation, operation and maintenance of the product becomes the responsibility of the user upon receipt of the product.

Returns and allowances must be authorized by APG in advance. APG will assign a Return Material Authorization (RMA) number which must appear on all related papers and the outside of the shipping carton. All returns are subject to the final review by APG. Returns are subject to restocking charges as determined by APG's “Credit Return Policy”.

Using the MND

The MND features several buttons for operation:

The display includes an Output Status Indicator, Battery Meter, and a Scalable Bar Graph.

Access Modes

The MND has several operating modes that limit access to setup menus. To access the mode setting:

  1. Simultaneously press and hold the Decrease and Enter buttons for approximately 5 seconds to display the 3-digit mode access number.
  2. Use the Increase/Decrease buttons to change the value of the flashing digit, and the Enter button to accept and advance to the next digit.

Mode Options:

*See "Setting Mode Access Password" under Sensor Label section (page 21) for more information.

UNITS (Units of Measure Label)

Allows the user to select the unit of measure label that appears on the lower display line. Options include:

Note: The selected units of measure apply to all sensor readings and cannot be set individually. The units label will automatically display 'PCTFUL' for readings in Percent Full mode.

ENTR (Enter Button Function)

Selects the function of the ENTER button in standard operating mode. Functions include:

*2nd reading is applicable to MPX dual-float sensors only.

AdVSET (Advanced Settings)

OUTPUT (Outputs)

The MND offers optional outputs: solid-state relays, 4-20 mA, or 0-3 Vdc analog signals. Not all output options apply to all MND configurations. The Sensor Address setting determines which sensor controls the output(s).

Trip Type Descriptions

NEAR: Output activates when reading is less than Trip Reading.

EXCLUSIVE: Output activates when reading is less than Trip Reading OR greater than Trip Reading + Trip Window.

HYSTERESIS NEAR: Output activates until reading is greater than Trip Reading + Trip Window, then deactivates when reading is less than Trip Reading.

FAR: Output activates when reading is greater than Trip Reading.

HYSTERESIS FAR: Output activates when reading increases beyond Trip Reading + Trip Window, remains active until reading falls below Trip Reading, and remains deactivated until reading is again greater than Trip Reading + Trip Window.

ON: Holds the output closed whenever the display is powered.

OFF: Disables the output.

Note: For Normally Closed relays, ON is Open; for Normally Open relays, ON is Closed.

Switchable Power Source Output Option

This option allows an internal battery-powered MND to share its battery power (via relay T1) with APG Modbus sensors (MNU, MPX, PT series) for a monitoring system. Pressing the power button wakes the system, polls the sensor, and re-enters sleep mode.

Relay T1, set to Timed Relay mode, controls sensor voltage. Setting Interval Time to 0 forces T1 active immediately upon waking. APG recommends an On Time of 8-10 seconds for sensor power-up and reading. Auto-Off determines how long the MND remains powered before re-entering sleep mode.

Recommended APG Settings:

WARNING! The Switchable Power option sources battery voltage directly to the output line when the display is powered "on". Care must be taken not to short this voltage to other output lines (DC common or communication lines).

*This option requires special factory hardware configuration and is not a standard MND feature.

COMM (Communications)

Write Function

Allows the MND (in Master mode) to write a value to a specific holding register of a sensor. Steps involve setting Sensor Address, Register Number, Register Type, and Register Value, then confirming the write.

Example: Changing Empty Distance (register 40407) to 2150 for sensor address 5.

Address Change (ADRCHG)

Allows quick changing of a sensor's address when MND is Master. Enter current address, then the new address.

Communications Setup Examples

APG sensor readings are stored in register 303 (unsigned 32-bit).

SENLAB (Sensor Labels)

Allows assigning a custom label for each sensor (up to 10 sensors + LOE/RST master). The label appears on the display, alternating with the Unit of measure.

Note: Setting a Mode Access Password (page 8). If a label is assigned for Sensor 10, it becomes the password. Default label '10AAAA' requires no password.

PCTFUL (Percent Full)

Displays sensor readings as a percentage of full, based on a user-defined 100% value. To enable, select PCTFU in the main menu, choose the sensor, and enter the 100% value. 0% (empty) is assumed to be 0. Setting value to 00000 (default) disables the feature.

Note: 'PCTFUL' label displays as the unit of measure for sensors in Percent Full mode. Output settings must be based on underlying readings, not the displayed percentage.

*bLIGHT (Back Light) *Optional Feature

Mode options: On, Off, 30 Sec, 1 min, 2 min, 4 min, 8 min, 16 min. Adjust backlight intensity by selecting brightness (ORTHES) and using up/down arrow buttons.

Programming the MND using APG Modbus Software

The MND's "Setup" communications type allows programming via software. The same software programs APG's Modbus sensors (MNU, MPX, PT series). Software allows saving and loading MND configurations.

Steps to establish communications and program:

  1. Use MND buttons to enter Communications menu, change C-TYPE to "SETUP".
  2. Note the Sensor Address (SENADR) setting; this is the MND's address for software communication.
  3. Install and run APG Modbus software.
  4. In the software, click "Configure" > "Communication" to open the Communication Configuration window.
  5. Check USB Communication box (for RST-6001 RS-485 to USB converter) or select the Com Port for the RS-485 to RS-232 converter.
  6. Ensure Sensor # matches the MND's Sensor Address setting.
  7. Select MND.
  8. Click "Save Config", then "Close".
  9. Click on "Sensor 1" to enter the programming window for the MND.

Register Values: Register values populate automatically. To change a parameter, click its value, enter the new value, and click the adjacent "Send" button.

Changing Multiple Parameters: Click individual values, enter new values, then click "Send All" to write all changes.

Communication Feedback: A green window indicates successful communication. A yellow window indicates communication failure or value out of limits.

Saving and Recalling Settings Configurations

Saving: Click "File" > "Save Mode Values". Choose file name and location, then click "Save".

Recalling: Click "File" > "Load Mode Values". Choose file, click "Open". Click "Send All" to write parameters to the MND.

Resetting the MND to Factory Defaults

Simultaneously press and hold the Decrease/Power and Enter buttons for approximately 5 seconds. Enter the mode number '125' and press Enter. This resets all parameters to factory defaults.
