Filter drier, shell

Type DCR for CO2 Application

Refrigerants

CO2 (sub critical and trans critical system)

Operating Conditions

Media Temperature: -55 to 100 °C / -67 to 212 °F

Maximum working pressure (PS/MWP): 90bar / 1305 psig

Design

The design section features an exploded view diagram of the filter drier's internal components. The diagram shows the housing for 1 or 2 cores, with the core itself, core felt gasket, core plate bottom, core plate mid, and core holder assembly arranged around it. A cover plate with a core shaft, cover gasket, and plug are shown for the top. Bolts for the cover and a wing nut are also depicted. The diagram includes numbered callouts corresponding to a parts list: Part 1: Plug for cover, Part 2: Bolts for cover, Part 3: Cover plate & core shaft, Part 4: Cover gasket, Part 5: Core plate bottom, Part 6: Core felt gasket, Part 7: Core, Part 8: Core plate mid, Part 9: Core holder assembly, Part 9.a: Wing nut, Part 10: Housing for 2 core, Part 11: Housing for 1 core. A note clarifies that the inner taper of the core always faces towards the filter outlet. Another note indicates to remove the rubber bush while making assembly.

Installation

The filter drier is available in two models with minimum length specifications:

TypeL minimum
[mm][in]
DCR 0482509.8
DCR 09640015.8

Caution: Be careful of liquid refrigerant traps in the system, as they may result in very high internal pressures when heated. Ensure proper pump down before removing the DCR cover and drain out residual refrigerant before removing cover bolts.

A schematic diagram shows the filter drier integrated into a refrigeration system, indicating refrigerant flow.

Brazing and Welding

Instructions for Brazing/Welding:

  • Keep flames away from the body during the process.
  • Connector types typically used are Steel with Silver-flo 55 + Easy-flow flux.

Customer Best Practices:

  • Remove the cover assembly before brazing/welding.
  • Do not remove the core shaft from the cover.
  • Brazing/Welding should be performed by a certified welder.
  • Allow components to cool down completely after brazing/welding.
  • Clean the brazing/welding area thoroughly after installation to remove all remaining flux. This is a critical step for preventing corrosion.
  • The external surface has a TLP (Zinc) coating. Painting the DCR after installation is recommended for maximum corrosion protection.
  • After brazing/welding, apply a suitable coating on the connector surface to prevent rust in the field.

Gasket Information

The gasket (Pos 4) is crucial for sealing the cover.

Important Notes:

  • Confirm that the correct top cover gasket is selected for the DCR.
  • Do not reuse the gasket.
  • Do not use oil or grease on the gasket.

⚠️ Warning: Do not install the DCR insert before brazing or welding is completed.

An additional visual suggests applying a suitable coat or paint after brazing.

Bolt Tightening Procedure

Follow the specified steps and torque values for tightening the DCR bolts (M12*1.75):

  1. Finger tight all the bolts.
  2. Tighten to 10 N.m / 7.4 lbf.ft.
  3. Tighten to 20 N.m / 15 lbf.ft.
  4. Tighten to 40 N.m / 30 lbf.ft.
  5. Tighten to 80 N.m / 59 lbf.ft.

Note: Repeat the tightening sequence until complete tightness has been reached.

Torque specifications for various components:

ComponentSizeTorque (N.m / lbf.ft)
Cover boltsM12*1.7580 / 59
Plug**1/4" NPT50 / 37
Plug**1/2" G50 / 37
Core ShaftM1030 / 22
Wing nutM81.5 / 1.10 (Hand tight)

** Note: Plugs can be replaced, for example, with a Schrader or needle valve.
