Paxton Compact Keypad

Model: ins-30109-US

Product Overview

The Paxton Compact Keypad (model ins-30109-US) is a robust access control device designed for secure entry management. It features a durable metal construction and illuminated keypad for ease of use.

Visual Description: A rectangular, brushed metal keypad unit with a 12-button numeric keypad (0-9, *, #) and a bell button. The numbers and symbols are illuminated in green. It is designed for surface or flush mounting.

Installation

Fitting for a Water Resistant Installation

For installations requiring water resistance, the keypad assembly is rated IPX7 waterproof when used with the appropriate mounting plate. All cable connections must be made inside the building to maintain the waterproof integrity.

Fitting to Existing Wiring

An alternative surface mount box is available, which includes a terminal strip. This makes it ideal for connecting the keypad to existing wiring infrastructure.

Wiring

The keypad provides lock control via a powered lock output and a voltage-free relay. The wiring diagram illustrates connections for an exit button (push to make), electric release, bell ?, and power supply ⚡. It is crucial to terminate unused V+ wires (Yellow for lock, Brown for bell) to prevent short circuits.

The combined current for all outputs must not exceed 1A.

Note: When using the relay output, it is recommended to avoid the 'Lock wire setting' in 'fail open' mode.

System Initialization and Programming

Initialising a New System

To initialize the system, choose a 6-digit Programming Code. Load this code into the unit by entering it twice.

IMPORTANT: Do not set the Programming Code to 123456. The default user code is 1234. The programming code must not include '1234' in the same order. Entering '1234' will release the door lock and ignore any subsequent numbers.

After setting the programming code, the default user code is set to 1234. You can then set up additional user codes and features using the programming chart.

Example: Setting a user code for Normal door unlock:

Enter 6-digit Programming Code, then press `8` [Enter user code (4-8 digits)], then press `4` [Re-enter user code]. This sets the code for Normal operation. Hold the function key for 3 seconds; the unit will beep and the LED will flash faster.

Programming Options

To access programming options, START by entering the 6-digit Programming Code and holding down a function key for 3 seconds. The unit will beep and the LED flashes faster. Continue the key sequence to set the desired option. The keypad returns to operating mode after each option is set.

Programming Chart Summary:

  • Set a user code: Press `8`, enter user code (4-8 digits), re-enter user code. Options: `4` = Normal, `6` = Toggle, `8` = Duress, `2` = Delete.
  • Door open time (seconds): Press `5`, enter time (default 07, max 60). Option `2` = Delete.
  • Single or multiple codes: Press `2`. Options: `2` = One code only, `6` = Multiple codes allowed.
  • Lock wire setting: Press `1`. Options: `2` = Fail locked, `6` = Fail open.
  • Silent operation: Press `3`. Options: `2` = Beep on, `6` = Silent.
  • 20 wrong keystrokes lockout: Press `4`. Options: `2` = OFF, `6` = ON (60 second lockout).
  • Exit button: Press `7`. Options: `2` = Open door for time in option 5, `6` = Toggle door open until pressed again or toggle code entered.
  • Change Programming Code: Press `6`, enter new 6-digit Programming Code, re-enter new Programming Code.
  • Data Reset (except Programming code): Press `9`, enter 6-digit Programming Code, re-enter 6-digit Programming Code. Options: `9` = default setting, Hold down for 3 secs.

Full System Reset

To perform a full system reset:

  1. Power down the system.
  2. Power the system up whilst holding down button `3`.
  3. The unit will beep and flash LEDs 3 times per second.
  4. Proceed to 'Initialising a new system'.

Technical Help

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Can I use a fail open release (e.g. Maglock)? By default, the keypad operates with a fail-locked release. To enable fail-open, change the lock wire setting via Program option `1`.
  2. How do I integrate an entry phone system? The output from an entry phone system can simulate an exit button. Do not apply voltage directly to the exit wires (Blue/Mauve). Use the entry phone system's powered output to drive an independent relay with 'normally open going closed' contacts. Connect this relay across the exit wires.
  3. What are the keypad code types used for?
    • Normal: Releases the door for the time period set in Option 5.
    • Toggle: Releases the lock until the code is entered a second time.
    • Duress: Releases the lock (as in Normal) and energizes the bell output ? for 30 seconds.
    • Delete: Used to remove a specific code entered in Multiple mode.
  4. Can I connect a compact with another Paxton control unit? No, Paxton Compact systems have built-in electronics and no direct data output. Other systems like Switch2 and Net2 use different data inputs. The compact system is designed for standalone door unit control.
  5. Can I have read in and read out on one door with two keypad units? Wiring lock outputs from two units in parallel to a common lock is not supported and may damage the units. Use an independent power feed switched through the relay outputs (COM/N.O./N.C.) of both units for lock control.
