Advanced CarPlay/Android Auto Integration for GM Vehicles
The ZZ2 ITZ-MYLINK system provides advanced integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, enhancing the infotainment experience in General Motors vehicles equipped with the IO5 or IO6 system. This document outlines the product's features, components, installation, operation, and provides answers to common questions.
Kit Components
The ITZ-MYLINK kit includes the following essential components:
- ITZ-MYLINK Interface Unit
- USB/Camera Harness
- Radio/HMI T-Harness
- LVDS IN Cable

Note: The provided microphone is required for Android Auto Voice Command features. Apple CarPlay does not require this microphone.
Installation Diagram and Notes
The system requires specific wiring connections between the ITZ-MYLINK interface, the vehicle's Head Unit (HMI), and the display. Refer to the detailed installation diagram for precise connections.
Important Installation Notes:
- If the screen flashes after connection, disconnect the single violet cable (from the gray T-Harness) and reset the system.
- For optimal performance, it is recommended to use the OEM MyLink system for handling phone calls and music playback.

Important Notes:
- ZZ-2 recommends connecting your phone's Bluetooth to both the ZZPLAY system and the factory Bluetooth audio system for the best audio results.
- The 'BT Channel' setting must be turned ON for proper audio function. This allows the GM IO5/IO6 radio to handle all audio from CarPlay/Android Auto.
- HDMI output is not supported by this kit.
Operation and Phone Pairing
The ITZ-MYLINK system facilitates wireless or wired connection for both iPhone and Android devices.
Phone Pairing Process:
- Ensure your phone's Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are enabled.
- Connect to the ZZPLAY unit via Bluetooth.
- Once the Bluetooth connection is established, the system will automatically create an Ad-Hoc Wi-Fi connection in the background.
- For iPhones, this Wi-Fi connection will prompt as 'Use CarPlay'.
- For Android phones, select 'Android Auto' from the 'Setup > Smart phone > Android device' menu before using Android Auto.
- For wireless connections, pair the device via Bluetooth and follow the on-screen instructions.
- For wired connections, use a high-quality data cable to ensure stability.
Connecting to CarPlay/Android Auto:
- iPhone: After pairing, the system may prompt 'Use CarPlay'. Select it to launch CarPlay.
- Android: Select 'Android Auto' from the phone setup menu.
The system allows for contact and favorite synchronization. Users can choose to allow or deny this during setup.
Note: CarPlay will function without contact syncing.
Interface Menu Overview
To access the main interface menu, navigate within CarPlay or Android Auto mode and select the 'ZZPLAY' tile (for CarPlay) or 'Exit' tile (for Android Auto). This action leads to the ZZPLAY interface setup menu, not the original OEM system.
The main interface menu provides access to:
- CarPlay (Apple): Connect or return to Apple CarPlay.
- Android Auto (Android): Connect or return to Android Auto.
- AirPlay (Apple only): Connect for AirPlay functionality.
- Screen Mirroring (Android only): Enable screen mirroring for Android devices.
- Bluetooth: Manage Bluetooth connections.
- USB: Access USB media (Video or Audio).
- Camera: View a connected Front Camera.

Additional options include viewing/editing connected phones, accessing USB media, and viewing the front camera feed.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: I can't hear any audio from the CarPlay/Android Auto system.
A: Ensure your OE system is set to Bluetooth audio mode. The phone must be paired to the factory GM Bluetooth system for both phone calls and audio. AUX input is generally not used for this system.
Q: Sometimes my phone won't connect, the screen goes black, or CarPlay kicks me out.
A: For iPhone users, performing a 'Hard Reset' on the phone is recommended approximately twice a month. This clears cache and resets processors without erasing data. Follow the specific iPhone hard reset steps provided.
Q: Incoming text responses from SIRI are silent on CarPlay.
A: This can occur if the iPhone is connected to the vehicle's OE Bluetooth for both phone calls and audio. Ensure the phone is only connected for phone calls via OE Bluetooth. For iPhone, adjust phone settings in the OEM radio's Bluetooth/Phone setup to disconnect as an audio player. Some vehicles may not offer this option.
Q: Using Android, I cannot get the phone to reliably connect wirelessly.
A: Android phones can be more sensitive. Ensure the Android OS is up-to-date and clear the cache on the Android Auto application. Android OS version 11 or higher is recommended. Some phone models (e.g., TCL, Motorola) may have compatibility issues; in such cases, use a high-quality USB-C cable for the Android Auto connection.
iPhone Hard Reset Instructions:
- Press and Release Volume UP.
- Press and Release Volume DOWN.
- Press and HOLD the Main Power button for 20 seconds. Ignore the 'Slide to Power Off' slider; wait until the Apple logo appears before releasing the power button.
- Test the system after the phone reboots. This process does not erase personal phone data.
