Introduction
This instruction manual provides essential information for the Celestron Labs CM1000C microscope. Designed with high-quality materials for durability and longevity, this precision optical instrument offers magnification from 40x to 1000x, making it ideal for observing a wide range of specimens including yeast, mold, cultures, plant and animal parts, fibers, and bacteria.
Please read this manual thoroughly before use to understand the names and functions of each part of the microscope.
Operating Your Microscope
Before observing specimens, familiarize yourself with the operation sections covering focusing, magnification changes, stage usage, and lighting adjustments.
Specimen Observation
Carefully place a prepared slide under the clips on the stage, centering the specimen. Note that the image viewed through the microscope will be inverted both vertically and horizontally. The microscope includes prepared slides for immediate use.
Focus on the specimen, starting with low magnification. Exercise caution to avoid damaging the slide or specimen. When using high magnification, ensure the objective lens does not contact the slide.
Focusing and Magnification Change
- Begin observation at the lowest magnification (4x objective lens, 10x eyepiece).
- Place the specimen slide on the stage, directly beneath the objective lens. Slowly turn the focusing knob until the specimen comes into focus.
- To increase magnification, rotate the revolving nosepiece to select a 10x or 40x objective lens. Readjust focus slowly.
- Note: Lower the stage using the focusing knob before changing objective lenses.
- Magnification can be further increased by swapping the 10x eyepiece for the 25x eyepiece, allowing for higher magnifications up to 1000x.
Lighting Adjustment
The required brightness varies depending on the specimen's size, thickness, and color. Adjust the illumination using the brightness control dial. This dial typically offers multiple brightness settings (e.g., 8 levels) from dimmest to brightest. Experiment to find the optimal lighting for your specimen.
Diaphragm
The diaphragm features several aperture sizes to control the amount of light passing through the specimen. Adjusting the aperture helps regulate brightness and contrast for clearer observation.

Care, Storage, and Warranty
Setup
- Remove the microscope and accessories from the packaging.
- Carefully place the microscope on a stable, flat surface.
- Remove the protective cover.
- Remove the cap from the body tube.
- Insert the 10x eyepiece into the body tube.
- Connect the AC adapter to the base and then to a power outlet.
- *Note: The microscope can operate on 3 AA batteries. Install batteries by opening the battery compartment on the base using the hex wrench.*
Care and Storage
- After use, remove all slides and specimens from the stage.
- Turn off the power and unplug the AC adapter.
- Cover the microscope with its protective bag or cover when not in use to keep it clean and protected.
- Store the microscope in a dry, clean location.
- Avoid direct sunlight when using the microscope.
- When carrying the microscope, support it with one hand on the arm and the other on the base. Do not carry by the focus knobs or head.
- Ensure all cords are unplugged before cleaning.
- Clean the exterior with a slightly damp cloth. Do not use abrasive materials.
- Clean optical surfaces with an air blower or lens cleaning brush. For fingerprints, use specialized lens cleaner and tissues, wiping in a non-circular motion.
- Do not attempt to disassemble or clean internal optical surfaces.
- Handle slides with care, as edges may be sharp.
