Parts and Names - Front Panel
The front panel of the MD-1/MD-1P features:
- Power on/Standby Button: Press to power the device on or put it into standby mode. The first startup after connecting power may take approximately 30 seconds.

LCD Screen: Displays status information, audio details, and playback controls.
- A Status Info: Shows time, network connection, storage status, NAS connection, and hardware functions.
- B Settings Button: Accesses the device's settings menu.
- C Audio Information: Displays album art, track title, artist, duration, audio format, sampling rate, and filter type.
- D Playback Control Buttons: Control playback, loop, shuffle, and view the play queue/playlists.
- E My Favorites Button: Add or remove tracks from favorites.
- F Control Bar:
- Input Channel: Selects the input source.
- Output Channel (MD-1 only): Selects the output channel.
- Volume and Mute: Adjusts volume, mutes, and unmutes the audio.
Parts and Names - Rear Panel (MD-1)
Rear Panel Connections (MD-1):
Main Section:
- Optical & Coaxial Input: Connect S/PDIF sources via optical or coaxial cables.
- HDMI ARC: Connect to TVs with ARC functionality.
- USB Audio: Connect to a PC, smartphone, or tablet via USB-A to USB-B or USB-C to USB-B cable to use the device as an external sound card. (Note: Lightning to USB Camera Adapter may be needed for Apple devices.)
- USB: Connect USB storage devices or CD drives (5V/1A max power per port).
- LAN: Connect to a network router for Gigabit Ethernet.
- Reset Button: Resets the unit to factory state when the unit malfunctions. Consult Matrix Audio service team for instructions.
- Trigger Input/Output: Connect to other audio devices via 3.5mm mono plug for linkage control. Output provides a 12V DC signal.
- Speaker Outputs: One set of speaker outputs.
- AC Input: Connect the power cable here. Ensure a reliable earth wire connection. A switch is present to completely turn off power; otherwise, the device consumes standby power.
Lower Section:
- Turntable Grounding Terminal: Connect to the turntable chassis when using the phono input.
- Phono Input: Connect vinyl turntables (MM cartridges supported) via RCA cables.
- XLR Analog Input, RCA Analog Input: Connect audio devices with analog outputs.
- Preamp Output: Connect active speakers or amplifiers.
- Subwoofer Output: Connect active subwoofers (MD-1 has one).
- Wi-Fi Antenna: For wireless network connection.

Parts and Names - Bottom Panel
SSD Slot
The bottom panel provides an M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD slot for internal storage. It supports SSDs of sizes 2280, 2242, and 2230.
Installation Instructions:
- Turn off and unplug the power cord before installing the SSD. This slot does not support hot-swapping.
- After installation and powering on, the device will prompt to format the SSD. Formatting on the device is recommended to avoid compatibility issues. If the SSD is pre-formatted, this prompt may not appear. Format can be managed via the "Internal Storage" option in the device settings.
Note: The SSD slot supports a maximum power specification of 3.3V 3A. Using an SSD with a working current exceeding 3A may cause instability.

Parts and Names - Remote Control
The remote control allows operation of the device. Slide the arrowed cover to open the battery holder, observing polarity.
Remote Control Buttons:
- Power on/Standby: Controls device power state.
- Working/Battery Status: Indicates device operation and battery level (flashes red when low).
- Dimmer: Adjusts display brightness.
- Input Channels: Selects audio input sources.
- Programmable Buttons: Functionality defined via the MA Remote App.
- Volume: Adjusts audio volume.
- Mute/Unmute: Toggles audio mute. Pressing +/- buttons also unmutes.
- Output Channel (MD-1P only): Cycles through speaker outputs A and B.
- Playback Control Area: Controls playback functions (play, pause, skip, etc.) when supported by the input channel.
Usage Notes:
- Operate within approximately 8 meters.
- If multiple Matrix Audio devices are present, use address codes (preset to 5) to prevent cross-control. Address codes can be configured in the Settings menu.

Operations Before Using - Connect to Network
LAN Connection
Connect the device to your network router using an Ethernet cable. It is recommended to use a DHCP server for automatic IP assignment. Network settings can be manually configured via the "Network" > "LAN" option in the Settings menu. A network connection icon (?) will appear in the status bar.
Wi-Fi Connection
Navigate to Settings > Network > Wi-Fi. Select your network SSID and enter the password. A wireless connection icon (?) will appear in the status bar upon successful connection. The device supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless networks.
If the connection lacks internet access, a specific icon (e.g., ⚠️) will be shown in the status bar.
MA Remote App
Install the MA Remote App on your iPad, iPhone, or Android device. Ensure the device and your mobile device are on the same network; the app will automatically discover and connect. Manual addition is possible via the Add Device Wizard.

Operations Before Using - HD Bluetooth
The device supports HD Bluetooth, including aptX, aptX HD, LDAC, and other high-resolution formats. To connect, navigate to the system settings menu and select the HD Bluetooth option. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the pairing process.
Operations Before Using - Driver for USB Audio
Windows Installation
When connecting to a Windows 7/8/10/11 computer as an external audio device, install the provided drivers:
- Double-click the driver installation package and click "Next".
- Select the installation path and click "Install".
- Click "Next" after the installation is complete.
- Click "Finish" to close the Setup Wizard.

macOS Setup
No driver installation is required for macOS. Simply select "MD-1/MD-1P" as the audio output device in Sound Preferences.
