UF-AE Quick Start Guide

Package Contents

  • UF-AE unit
  • Wall Mount Bracket
  • Screws (Qty. 4)
  • Screw Anchors (Qty. 4)

Installation Requirement

The UF-AE requires an active fiber SFP module and does not support passive GPON SFP modules.

Hardware Overview

Ports

SFP Port: The hot-swappable SFP port supports a 1 Gbps connection. An SFP+ module can be used, but the maximum speed remains 1 Gbps.

Ethernet Port: The RJ45 Ethernet port supports 10/100/1000 Mbps connections. It also supports 802.3af active PoE or 24V passive PoE for device power.

LED Indicators

Ethernet LED

  • Off: Ethernet connection down
  • Amber: 10/100 Mbps Ethernet connection up. Flashing indicates activity.
  • White: 1000 Mbps (1 Gbps) Ethernet connection up. Flashing indicates activity.

Signal LED

  • Off: Optical signal present
  • Amber: Loss of optical signal. Check the fiber cable for damage and ensure it is properly connected on both ends.

Power LED

  • Off: Power off
  • White: Power on

Hardware Installation

Wall Mounting

Follow these steps to mount the UF-AE to a wall:

  1. Position the wall mount bracket on the desired wall location. Secure the bracket to the wall using the provided screws and screw anchors.
  2. Slide the UF-AE unit onto the wall mount bracket until it is firmly seated.

Connecting Fiber

The UF-AE requires an active fiber SFP module and does not support passive GPON SFP modules. An SFP+ module can be used, but the maximum speed is 1 Gbps.

  1. Insert an active fiber SFP module into the SFP port on the UF-AE.
  2. Connect the fiber optic cable to the SFP module.
  3. Connect the other end of the fiber optic cable to your fiber network.

Connecting LAN

Connect an Ethernet cable from your network device (such as a switch or router) to the RJ45 Ethernet port on the UF-AE.

Connecting Power

The UF-AE can be powered using either 802.3af PoE or 24V Passive PoE. Connect the power source to the Ethernet port.

Note: The Ubiquiti airCube AC is an ideal complement for CPE installations, providing a 1 Gbps Ethernet connection and Wi-Fi connectivity with PoE passthrough.

WARNING: The switch port must comply with the power specifications listed in this Quick Start Guide.
