Make sure you start with high quality potting soil (garden soil, top soil, and raised bed soil are not recommended). Original Fill each tier with 1 cu ft high quality potting soil. Leaf Fill each tier with .75 cu ft high quality potting soil. Each planter is 7" deep, which is great for plants with shallow roots like: Alyssum Arugula* Basil Beet* Bok choy Broccoli Bush bean* Carrot* Cilantro Dill Fennel Garlic Kale Lavender Lemon balm Lettuce* Marigold Mint Onion Oregano Pansy Parsley Parsnip* Pea* Radish* Rosemary Sage Spinach* Strawberry Swiss chard Thyme Turnip Jack the Inventor's tip: If you're growing a variety of plants, it's best to grow larger plants on the bottom tiers and smaller plants above. This way, they don't shade each other out. Leaf Tier 7" Tall Assemble your planter 2 Start planting Plant each pocket with starter plants or seeds. 1 Fill to the top with soil Use potting mix or potting soil without compressing or "packing in" the soil. 3 Connect grey disks Place grey disks on the top of each tier, lining up the holes with each planter pocket. Take care not to get soil in the grey disk. 4 Stack your planter Carefully stack each tier and ensure the planter's feet interlock with the planter below so it stays in place. Like this! 5 Water your plants Now's the time to hydrate your plants by filling the top water reservoir until water comes out the bottom. NOT like that! Jack's tips: It's best to grow larger plants on the bottom of the vertical planter and grow smaller plants above. This way, they don't shade each other out. Jack's Tip: Initially, you may need to water more than once through the reservoir as well as in the pockets to thoroughly moisten the soil. How our watering system works Our patented watering system makes it easier than ever to keep your plants happy and hydrated. Once your planter is assembled, let's start watering! Pour water into the top water reservoir. Be mindful not to overfill or block the top water reservoir. Most of the water overflows the center hole. This delivers water to each grey disk within seconds. Some water drips into each pocket of the top tier. Watch how the water is distributed to each pocket with ease. Water slowly drips from the grey disks into each pocket. Check to make sure the soil is completely saturated. Check out our watering FAQ video! youtube.com/greenstalkgarden Jack's tips: If growing from seed, you may need to hand water or mist the pockets until the seeds sprout. When they do, you can use our watering system. Caring for your plants Choose the best location for your planter. Generally, you'll want a location with full sun. Make sure your plants are getting enough water. Check the top layer by sticking a finger into the soil. Check on your plants often. Daily or a few times a week is recommended. Assess what may be slowing your plant growth. Check plants daily for pests, yellowing leaves, and bolting. Always place your planter on a level surface. Otherwise, water will not disperse evenly and may harm the product's integrity. Proactively move the planter in case of high winds. It's ideal to move your planter to a protected area.
