From a tiny loudspeaker, the JBL Professional Control 29AV-1 delivers increased voicing for very flat, high-fidelity performance, extended bandwidth, and well-controlled defined coverage. The speaker may be used vertically or horizontally thanks to the adjustable high-frequency horn. Excellent sound character is ensured by consistent coverage across the listening area. Because of the speaker’s moderate magnetic shielding, it can be placed as close as 230 mm (9) to TV monitors. The high-quality line distribution transformer enables the use of either 70V or 100V distributed speaker lines, with little insertion loss and reduced saturation. The 8 impedance allows several speakers on a loudspeaker line to be used in bypass mode. The integrated InvisiBall mounting system is simple to set up, easy to aim, and provides excellent theft protection. Up to 180 degrees of horizontal rotation is possible with invisible.

Off-axis rotation up to 41° and vertical rotation up to 36° (horn end inward) or 23° (woofer end inward). Compact installation is possible thanks to attachment points for the optional MTC-29UB U-bracket.

High-Pass Frequency Recommendations

The transformer in Control 29AV has been designed to minimize transformer saturation, however, it is recommended that when driving the transformer settings with very high signal levels, the system be high-passed to prevent excessive low-frequency content from overloading the transformer and stressing the driving amplifier. The high-pass frequency requirements vary according to the tap setting and how many speakers are connected in parallel. The following chart assumes the goal of totally eliminating all saturation, even at full-voltage (70V or 100V) peaks. You may be able to lower the high-pass frequency when operating at lower volumes. (High-pass slope is 24 dB/oct)

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How many watts does this speaker sound loud and smooth?
There are other factors besides how many watts will determine how loud and smooth a speaker will be. And this speaker is 70V as well as 8 Ohm. So it would depend on which way you would be running it. If you are running it at 8 Ohm, then it has a maximum capacity of 300W. If you are running it at 70V, then it’s max is 110W.
  • What setting do you use?? There is a little hole on the back of the speakers to select multiple voltages or “thru”. I just want to hook up 2 speakers.?
Depends on the amp but Most likely with just 2 speakers, you’re using a standard amp. Use the “thru” setting for a standard 8ohm load. The voltage settings are for amps that drive a high voltage signal, common for large venues that use multiple speakers.
  • How outdoor proof are these speakers? I’m looking to get these for our hs baseball field. will they be to be left outside during the season?
They will survive outdoor use. But may not be the best thing for your field. These are not meant for long throws. You might be better off with something like the Community R series, or the JBL AWC series. They are more money but will throw much farther.
  • I don’t have the JVC hex wrench to tighten the invisible mount. using my own long hex wrench but can’t tighten it. is JVC’s wrench ‘special’? any ideas?

you probably can order an extra wrench but I do believe it is a special wrench and it helps with security that anyone can’t take them down.

  • Can it work with a regular amplifier? I have an old Marantz 2230, 30watt rm
You need a more powerful amplifier if you want to get the best out of these speakers. My amplifier is also old but it’s 500 watt.
  • I have 4 speakers of these, I want to connect to one of the channels on my amplifier ( xl 2500 two-channel, 500w @ 4ω power amplifier) any idea how?
Your Crown XLC2500 is actually rated down to 2 Ohms. That means that you can hook all 4 up to a single channel in parallel. But be aware that whenever you run an amp at a 2 ohm load, it will run hotter. So be sure that the airflow around the amp is very good.
  • Is JBL a decent brand?
JBL is a stalwart of the speaker industry, having been around for decades. Wireless JBL speakers have established themselves as the indisputable kings of Bluetooth speakers for the mainstream market, thanks to their continuous level of quality, waterproofing, good features, and dependable performance.
  • Is JBL a noise-canceling speaker?
