leaves dorsal flexion in the ankle joint free and enables the (residual) function of the calf muscles

during push-off to contribute to an efficient and natural gait pattern. At heel strike it has a restrain-

ing function on the plantar flexion of the foot, and at stance phase it gives bilateral support to the

" ankle joint.
