RDS Operations

What you can do with RDS

RDS (Radio Data System) allows FM stations to send additional information along with regular programme signals, such as station names and programme types (sports, music, etc.).

The "Enhanced Other Networks" feature allows you to tune into different network stations broadcasting your favorite programme or traffic announcements while listening to another source like a CD.

RDS Functions:

Tracing the same programme automatically (Network-Tracking Reception)

When driving in areas with poor FM reception, the tuner automatically tunes into another RDS station broadcasting the same programme with a stronger signal, ensuring continuous listening.

This function uses PI (Programme Identification) and AF (Alternative Frequency) data. Network-Tracking Reception will not operate if this data is not received correctly.

Network-Tracking Reception Modes:

Press and hold the [TP RDS] button for more than 1 second to cycle through modes:

Using Standby Reception

Standby Reception allows the unit to temporarily switch to your favorite programme (PTY) or Traffic Announcement (TA) from the current source (another FM station or CD). This function does not work when listening to an AM station.

TA Standby Reception

Press [TP RDS] while listening to an FM station. The [TP] indicator lights up if a TP station is received, engaging TA standby mode. If the current station is not a TP station, the [TP] indicator flashes. Press [◀] or [▶] to engage TA standby mode; "SEARCH" will appear, and TP station search begins. The [TP] indicator lights up when a TP station is tuned in.

If listening to a CD and wishing to listen to a TP station, press [PTY RDS] to enter TA standby mode (the [TP] indicator lights up). When a traffic programme broadcasts, "TRAFFIC" appears, the source switches to FM, and the volume increases to the preset TA volume level.

To deactivate TA standby mode, press [TP RDS] again.

PTY Standby Reception

Press [PTY] while listening to an FM station. The [PTY] indicator lights up if a PTY station is received, engaging PTY standby mode. The selected PTY name stored on page 12 flashes for 5 seconds. If the current station is not a PTY station, the [PTY] indicator flashes. Press [◀] or [▶] to engage PTY standby mode; "SEARCH" appears, and PTY station search begins. The [PTY] indicator lights up when a PTY station is tuned in.

If listening to a CD and wishing to listen to a selected PTY broadcast, press [PTY] to enter PTY standby mode (the [PTY] indicator lights up). When the selected PTY programme broadcasts, the PTY name appears, the source switches to FM, and the programme can be heard.
