DocumentDocumentApril 10, 2025 For Immediate Release City Theatrical's DMXcat App April 2025 Update Includes Flicker Finder Feature for DMXcat-E City Theatrical has released a new update to its DMXcat® app, version 2.1.0.9.0.0 on April 9th, 2025, which includes the Flicker Finder function in the DMX Tester app, among other enhancements, when connected to City Theatrical's DMXcat-ETM test tool device. DMXcat-E users can start using these new features by updating their DMXcat smartphone app from the App Store or Google Play (requires Apple iOS 13+ or Android OS 6.0+, 64-bit). As outlined in City Theatrical's DMXcat-E Quick Start Guide, the DMX Tester app allows the DMXcat-E and DMXcat devices to "Analyze DMX", "View Levels", and perform the "Flicker Finder" function. The "Flicker Finder" function allows the user to find the source of any DMX Flicker on the DMX universe by setting levels and noting if any levels have changed. Flicker Finder allows you to take a snapshot of the slot levels of an incoming universe and detect changes in those levels. The Flicker Finder will continually monitor the snapshot taken against the new incoming data. If there are any changes to the slot levels, the app will notify the user, allowing the user to view the slots that had a change in level and what the recorded and changed values were. Slots that change are highlighted in red. This is how the Flicker Finder feature works, in five steps: 1. Default - When DMX is: a. Present, users can press the "Save Snapshot and Start" button. b. Not present, entering the Flicker Finder will show "No Valid DMX Signal" on the screen. 2. Monitor - After pressing the start button, wait for a change in level to be detected. The screen shows that you are in monitoring mode and for how long the test has been running. 3. Download If a change in level has been detected, the changes are automatically downloaded and displayed. 4. View Results in Color Levels The slots with level changes are displayed in red, levels that have not changed are shown in blue. The height of the bar reflects the recorded (blue) or changed (red) level of the slot. 5. View Results in Numbers Chart Pressing anywhere on the results view switches to a numerical list of changed levels. Each changed slot is listed with both its recorded and changed level. In addition to the Flicker Finder, the following issues have been resolved with this DMXcat app update: Renaming of dongle caused the dongle to disappear from connection scans App could ask for a PIN when none is required 2 App no longer allows duplicate channel names in personality editor All file types are now sharable in the file share File share display now displays in list view and is easier to read All new features are free to DMXcat-E users who update their DMXcat app while connected to a DMXcatE device. Users may note that DMXcat-E app firmware updates take 15-20 minutes to perform, in which their smartphone needs to be kept charged and close to the DMXcat-E device throughout the update process. DMXcat-E (P/N 6100) is an expansion to City Theatrical's multi award winning DMXcat® Multi Function Test Tool system of solutions that allows for Ethernet control of a lighting fixture. In addition to all the functions DMXcat users currently enjoy, including utilization of the DMXcat free smartphone application for iPhone and Android to plan, install, operate, and maintain theatrical and studio lighting equipment, DMXcat-E allows users to view and send Ethernet protocols, including ArtNet and Streaming ACN (sACN). As more manufacturers implement Art-Net RDM into their fixtures, the DMXcat-E is ready to be the essential test tool for the future of lighting. DMXcat technology is covered by U.S. Patent # 10,129,964 B1 and other U.S and foreign patents pending. City Theatrical's DMXcat® app April 2025 update includes the Flicker Finder feature, among other useful new functionality, when connected to City Theatrical's DMXcat-ETM test tool solution. 3 The DMXcat app's new Flicker Finder feature works in five steps when connected to a DMXcat-E device: Default (parts 1 and 2), Monitor, Download, View Results in Color Levels, View Results in a Numbers Chart.
