GARDENA Electronic Water Timer T 1030 D

Introduction

This document provides an accurate translation of the original operating instructions from German. Users are advised to read these instructions carefully and observe all notes to familiarize themselves with the water timer, its correct use, and safety guidelines.

⚠ For safety reasons, children and young people under 16 years of age, as well as anyone not familiar with these operating instructions, must not use the water timer. Individuals with special needs may only use the product under the supervision and guidance of a responsible person. The device must never be used when tired, ill, or under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication.

Please keep these operating instructions in a safe place for future reference.

1. Uses of the GARDENA Water Timer

Intended Use

The GARDENA Water Timer is designed for amateur use in any garden setting, exclusively outdoors. It is intended to control artificial rain systems and other irrigation systems.

Attention ⚠

The GARDENA Water Timer must not be used for professional applications or in combination with chemicals, food, flammable materials, or explosives.

2. For Your Safety

Usage

⚠ The Water Timer is only to be used outdoors.

The Water Timer must not be used indoors.

The minimum dynamic pressure is 0.5 atm, and the maximum dynamic pressure is 12 atm. The minimum flow rate is 20 liters/hour.

Battery

Regularly check the filter in the main connector and clean it if necessary.

Do not pull the connected hose and avoid straining the connection.

For operational safety, only a 9 V alkaline battery of type IEC 6LR61 is permitted.

An operating life of approximately 1 year is only achieved if the new alkaline battery has a nominal voltage of at least 9 V.

→ Check the battery before purchasing.

Commissioning

The Water Timer may be screwed onto the tap in a vertical position with the main connector facing upwards, to prevent water from entering the special battery compartment.

The Water Timer activates after the start time has been set according to the selected watering program. To avoid accidental wetting during operation, the hose must be connected or the tap closed before selecting the watering program. Alternatively, the display can be removed for remote operation.

Permitted Liquids

The temperature of the water passing through the programmer must not exceed 40℃.

→ Use only clean tap water.

DANGER! ⚠

This machine generates an electromagnetic field during operation. This field may, in some circumstances, interact with active or passive medical implants. To reduce the risk of serious or fatal injury, individuals with medical implants are recommended to consult their doctor or the manufacturer of the medical implant before operating the machine.

DANGER! ⚠

During assembly, small parts may be swallowed, and there is a risk of suffocation from the plastic bag. Keep children away during assembly.

3. Operation

Rotary Knob and OK Button

The GARDENA Water Timer allows selection of various watering times and frequencies with different watering durations, regardless of whether a sprinkler system, shower system, or drip system is used.

The Water Timer will water automatically according to the selected program. Users can set the timer to water early in the morning or late in the evening to reduce water evaporation, or when away on holiday.

To program, simply set the time (with absolute accuracy), the day, the start of watering / the watering cycle / the days, and the duration by placing the indicator of the rotary knob on the desired number and confirming with the OK button.

Battery Status Indicator

When the two LEDs for 'Time' and 'Day' flash, the battery is depleted.

→ Replace the battery (refer to section 4. Commissioning, "Battery Installation").

The operational safety of the Water Timer depends on the functional capacity of the battery.

4. Commissioning

Each time the battery is changed, the program is lost and must be reprogrammed (refer to section 5. Handling).

Battery Installation

  1. Press the release button and remove the display from the body of the Water Timer.
  2. Insert the 9V alkaline battery into the battery compartment. Pay attention to the correct polarity (+/-). The 'Time' LED will flash.
  3. Reattach the display to the body of the Water Timer.

If users are absent for a long period, to prevent interruption of the Water Timer's operation due to a weakened battery, the battery must be replaced in good time.

The previous operating life of the battery plays a decisive role in battery replacement.

Even if the battery is almost empty, the programmer's solenoid valve will close, as this minimum energy is sufficient to close an open solenoid valve, but not to open it.

Connecting the Programmer

The water timer is equipped with a main connector for 33.3mm (G1") taps.

The included reducer allows connection of the water timer to smaller diameter taps (26.5 mm) (G 3/4").

  1. Connection to a 26.5 mm (G3/4") threaded tap: Screw the reducer onto the tap by hand, without using tools.
  2. Screw the main connector of the programmer onto the reducer and tighten by hand (do not use pliers).
  3. Screw the outlet connector onto the programmer.
  4. Open the water tap.

Connecting Anti-Theft Protection (Optional)

To protect the Water Timer from possible theft, users can purchase the GARDENA anti-theft device, item no. 1815-00.791.00, from GARDENA service.

  1. Securely screw the ring with the screw onto the back of the Water Timer.
  2. Use the ring to pass through, for example, a chain.

Once the ring is screwed on, the screw cannot be unscrewed again.

5. Handling

Setting the Watering Program

The display of the Water Timer is detachable. This means that the watering program can also be set independently of the Water Timer's connection point.

Programming Tips

  • The current time is entered with absolute accuracy. Therefore, it is recommended to enter the time at the full hour.
  • If a program point is not confirmed with the OK button after 120 seconds, the program is not saved.
  1. Turn the rotary knob to 'Off' and confirm with the OK button. The existing program in memory will be overwritten. The 'Time' LED will flash.
  2. Setting the time: Set the time on the inner black scale with the rotary knob and confirm with the OK button (example: 10 o'clock). The 'Time' LED lights up for half a second, indicating the exact time is accepted. The 'Day' LED will flash.
  3. Setting the day: Set the day on the inner grey scale with the rotary knob and confirm with the OK button (example: Mon Monday). The 'Day' LED lights up for half a second, indicating the day is accepted. The 'Start Time' LED will flash.
  4. Setting the watering start time: Set the watering start time on the inner black scale with the rotary knob and confirm with the OK button (example: 20 o'clock). The 'Start Time' LED lights up for half a second, indicating the exact time is accepted. The 'Start Days/Frequency' LED will flash. If the start time corresponds to the time entered immediately before, watering will occur at the next set time.
  5. Setting watering days: If daily watering is desired, ignore this section and proceed to section 6. "Setting the watering cycle (Frequency)". Otherwise, set the watering day on the inner grey scale with the rotary knob and confirm with the OK button (example: Mon Monday). The 'Start Days' LED lights up for half a second, indicating the watering day is accepted. Repeat the process for all desired days. The 'Start Days / Frequency' LED will continue to flash.
  6. Setting the watering cycle (Frequency):
    • 24h: 1 watering per day
    • 12h: 2 waterings per day from the start time
    • 8h: 3 waterings per day from the start time
Set the watering cycle on the inner blue scale with the rotary knob and confirm with the OK button (example: 12-hour cycle = 2 times a day). The 'Frequency' LED lights up for half a second, indicating the watering cycle is accepted. The 'Run Time' LED will flash.
  7. Setting watering duration: Set the watering duration on the inner white scale (Run Time Minutes) with the rotary knob and confirm with the OK button (example: 30 minutes). The 'Run Time' LED lights up for half a second, indicating the watering duration is accepted. The created program is now active.

Changing the Watering Duration

On warmer days, the watering duration can be changed. The set program is not modified.

→ Set the new watering duration on the outer white scale (Run Time Minutes) with the rotary knob and confirm with the OK button (example: 15 minutes). The 'Run Time' LED lights up for half a second, indicating the watering duration is accepted. The program is active with the new watering duration.

Manual Operation (ON)

On particularly hot days, the programmed watering duration may sometimes not be sufficient. In such cases, additional manual watering can be performed. During manual operation, the set program remains in memory.

→ Turn the rotary knob to the ON position. The valve opens for 30 minutes, regardless of the set program.

To reactivate the set program, the previous watering duration must be reset.

Bad Weather Function (OFF)

On rainy days, programmed watering is usually unnecessary. In such cases, programmed watering can be interrupted (Bad Weather Function). The set program remains in memory.

→ Turn the rotary knob to the OFF position. The valve closes or remains closed, regardless of the set program.

To reactivate the set program, the previous watering duration must be reset.

6. Decommissioning

Storage / Winterization

Before the frost period begins, the Water Timer must be stored in a dry place protected from frost.

Disposal of Used Batteries

Used batteries must be disposed of by returning them to a sales outlet or to the competent local special waste disposal services.

Battery disposal is only permitted when discharged.

Recycling (according to regulation 2012/19/EE)

♼ Do not dispose of the programmer with household waste. Hand it over to a recycling center.
