Safety Instructions

You can operate the appliance safely if you follow the information in these Safety Instructions and on the appliance:

Safe use of the appliance is no longer possible if:

Immediately turn off the appliance in the event of one of the above problems, remove the power cable from the power socket and contact your customer service as soon as possible.

Sophos expressly excludes any product liability and warranty claims if the appliance is not operated according to the instructions in these Safety Instructions and to the notes attached to the appliance itself.

This product is intended to be supplied by a UL approved built-in power supply or an external DC power adapter. To reduce potential safety issues and if you need further assistance with purchasing the external DC power adapter, please contact Sophos Ltd.

This equipment is not suitable for use in locations where children are likely to be present.

Never open the equipment. For safety reasons, the equipment should be opened only by qualified skilled personnel.

Suitable for installation in Information Technology Rooms in accordance with Article 645 of the National Electrical Code and NFPA 75.

Optical Fiber and Rack Mount Information

Optical Fiber Warning

Before using optical fiber for transferring data, make sure you have connected an approved optical transceiver module. Always install appropriate and UL approved laser class I transceivers, rated 3.3Vdc, max. 1W, prior to using the fiber ports.

Rack Mount Instructions

The following or similar rackmount instructions are included with the installation instructions:

  1. Elevated Operating Ambient – If installed in a closed or multi-unit rack assembly, the operating ambient temperature of the rack environment may be greater than room ambient. Therefore, consideration should be given to installing the equipment in an environment compatible with the maximum ambient temperature (Tma) specified by the manufacturer.
  2. Reduced Air Flow – Installation of the equipment in a rack should be such that the amount of air flow required for safe operation of the equipment is not compromised.
  3. Mechanical Loading – Mounting of the equipment in the rack should be such that a hazardous condition is not achieved due to uneven mechanical loading.
  4. Circuit Overloading – Consideration should be given to the connection of the equipment to the supply circuit and the effect that overloading of the circuits might have on overcurrent protection and supply wiring. Appropriate consideration of equipment nameplate ratings should be used when addressing this concern.
  5. Reliable Earthing – Reliable earthing of rack-mounted equipment should be maintained. Particular attention should be given to supply connections other than direct connections to the branch circuit, (e.g. use of power strips).

Changes or modifications made to this equipment not expressly approved by Sophos may void the FCC authorization to operate this equipment.

CFR Title 47 Part 15 Subpart B--Unintentional Radiators §15.105 Statement

This product has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This product generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the manufacturer's instruction manual, may cause harmful interference with radio communications. Operation of this product in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference, in which case you will be required to correct the interference at your own expense.

This equipment complies with FCC radiation exposure limits set forth for an uncontrolled environment. This equipment should be installed and operated with minimum distance 20 cm between the radiator and your body. This transmitter must not be co-located or operating in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter. IEEE 802.11b or 802.11g operation of this product in the USA is firmware-limited to channels 1 through 11.

Industry Canada Statements

This device complies with RSS-247 of the Industry Canada Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. (3) this device subject to this section shall not be capable of transmitting in the band 5600-5650 MHz. This restriction is for the protection of Environment Canada's weather radars operating in this band.
