Plug the connector into the side of the system labelled DC 5V (Ref.1) and the power supply into the mains. Alternatively, insert 4 x AA batteries into the battery compartment for portability. Ensure the antenna (Ref.13) is extended as far as possible so that you can rotate it which will enable you to get the best signal you can. Press the `Power' button to turn on the unit (Ref.3). It will automatically take you to DAB radio mode or the previous mode you were using. When DAB Radio is activated for the first time, you may need to scan for available stations if it does not do this automatically. To begin the scan, press the `Scan' button (Ref.7). Once the scan is complete, scroll through the stations by using the `Prev' (Ref.8) and `Next' buttons (Ref.9). Press `Enter/Snooze' (Ref.12) to select a station. To change the mode, press the `Mode' button (Ref.4) to switch between DAB Radio and FM Radio. Standby To place the music system in standby, press the `Power' button (Ref.3). To switch off without unplugging, press and hold the `Power' button (Ref.3). To turn off power to the unit, switch it off at the mains. The cord must be out of reach of children. 6 Instructions Guide DAB/DAB+ Radio Press the `Mode' button (Ref.4) to switch to DAB/DAB+ Radio. On first use it will automatically scan all stations and save them. Fully extend the antenna (Ref.13). To auto scan, press the `Scan' button (Ref.5) and then release. This will start scanning up the frequency band and store all stations that have a good signal up to 240 MHz. After searching has finished, it will automatically play the first station stored. To browse through all stations that have been stored, use the `Next' (Ref.9) and `Prev' buttons (Ref.8) to scroll through them. When on the chosen station, press the `Enter/Snooze' button (Ref.12) to begin listening to that station. The radio will display station information when you press the `Info/Menu' button (Ref.6). Press it multiple times to view all information. Please see page 10 for further details. When you turn on the radio again after it switching off, it will automatically tune to the same station (DAB or FM) that was last selected. 7 Instructions Guide DAB/DAB+ Radio Presets How to store a preset DAB station Up to 10 stations can be preset. To store a station that you are currently playing: Press and hold the `Preset' button (Ref.7) and "<1: (Empty)" will show on the display. Press `Prev' button (Ref.8) or `Next' (Ref.9) to change the "<1" to the preset number you want to store the station as. Follow by pressing the `Enter/Snooze' button (Ref.12) to save. The display will then show "Preset (1) stored". Follow the same guidance to set up to 10 preset DAB stations. How to play a preset radio station To listen to one of your preset stations, do the following: Press the `Preset' button (Ref.7). Press `Prev' button (Ref.8) or `Next' (Ref.9) to scroll through your preset stations. You can store up to 10 presets. Press `Enter/Snooze' button (Ref.12) to select your choice. ! IMPORTANT: Please make sure you have extended the antenna to its full length (Ref.13). This will then enable you to rotate it to get the best signal. 8 Instructions Guide Station Information for DAB Radio Press the `Info/Menu' button (Ref.6) repeatedly to show the different programme information. Signal Strength: Displays a signal bar with the strength of the current station. Bit Error Rate: Provides details of the signal error rate. Channel and Frequency: Displays the station's transmission channel number and frequency. PTY (Programme Type): Shows the type and description of the program provided by the DAB station. Time and Date: Displays the time and date information provided by the broadcaster. Bit Rate: The data rate which the signal is being transmitted. DAB indication: Indicates DAB mode. Dynamic Label Segment (DLS): Displays scrolling text information supplied by the broadcaster. 9 Instructions Guide FM Radio Press the `Mode' button (Ref.4) multiple times to switch between DAB and FM. The first time you do this, the FM frequency "87.5 MHz" will be displayed on the screen. Fully extend the antenna (Ref.13). To auto scan, press and release the `Scan' button (Ref.5). This will then start scanning up the frequency band and play the first station it finds with good signal. To scan down the frequency band, press and hold the `Scan' button (Ref.5) for a few seconds. The radio will display station information when you press the `Info/Menu' button (Ref.6), press multiple times to view all information. Please see page 11 for further details. To tune a specific frequency manually To listen to a specific frequency press and hold `Next' (Ref.9) to search forward quickly and `Prev' (Ref.8) to search back quickly. It will stop searching when the button is released. To search slowly press the `Next' (Ref.9) and `Prev' button (Ref.8) multiple times rather than holding. 10 Instructions Guide FM Radio Presets How to store a preset FM station Up to 10 stations can be set. To store a station that you are currently playing: Press and hold the `Preset' button (Ref.7). "<1: (Empty)" will show on the display. Press `Prev' button (Ref.8) or `Next' (Ref.9) to change the "<1" to the number you want to store the station as. Then press `Enter/ Snooze' button (Ref.12) to save. Press `Enter/Snooze' button (Ref.12) to select your choice. 11 Instructions Guide Station Information for FM Radio FM Radio Press the `Info/Menu' button (Ref.6) repeatedly to show the different programme information. Programme Type: Displays a description of the type of programme provided by the broadcaster. Signal Strength: Displays a signal bar with the strength of the current station. Time and Date: Displays the time and the date. Frequency: Displays the station's transmission frequency. Audio Type: Displays the audio type of the station you are listening to. It will either be stereo or mono. Radio Text: Displays scrolling text information supplied by the broadcaster. 12 Instructions Guide Clock & Date Settings Manually Setting the time The time will automatically update after the first use of DAB Radio. However, you can still set the time manually as follows: Ensure the unit is turned on. Press and hold the `Info/Menu' button (Ref.6) and use the `Prev/ Next' buttons (Ref.8/9) to scroll to the "Time/Date" option. Follow by pressing the `Enter/Snooze' button to confirm (Ref.12). The hour will now flash on the display screen. Press the `Prev' (Ref.8) or `Next' (Ref.9) button to scroll to your desired hour and press the `Enter/Snooze' button(Ref.12) to select that hour. The minutes will now flash on the display screen. Press the `Prev' (Ref.8) or `Next' (Ref.9) buttons until you are on the required minute. To confirm the minute, press `Enter/Snooze' (Ref.12). The time is now set on your radio. 13 Instructions Guide Manually Setting the Date The date can be changed after changing the time. The year will flash on the display screen. Press the `Prev' (Ref.8) or `Next' (Ref.9) buttons until you are on the required year. To confirm the year, press the `Enter/Snooze' (Ref.12) button. The month will flash on the display screen. Press the `Prev' (Ref.8) or `Next' (Ref.9) buttons until you are on the required month. To confirm the month, press `Enter/Snooze' (Ref.12). The day will flash on the display screen. Using the `Prev' (Ref.8) or `Next' (Ref.9) buttons, press until you are on the required day. To confirm the date, press `Enter/Snooze' (Ref.12). 14 Instructions Guide Dual Alarm Setting Alarm 1 / Alarm 2 Setting 1. Press and hold the `Info/Menu' button (Ref.6). 2. To highlight your choice, use the `Prev' or `Next' buttons (Ref.8/9)to select "Alarm 1 Set" or "Alarm 2 Set" and press the `Enter/Snooze' button (Ref.12) to begin setting your chosen alarm. 3. To turn the Alarm on, press `Next' (Ref.9) so that "ON" is flashing and press the `Enter/Snooze' button (Ref.12) to confirm. 4. The hour digits for the alarm will now flash. Press the `Prev' or `Next' buttons (Ref.8/9) to change the hour and press `Enter/ Snooze' (Ref.12) to confirm. 5. Press the `Prev' or `Next' buttons (Ref.8/9) to change the minutes, and press `Enter/Snooze' (Ref.12) to confirm. 6. Now choose when you would alarm to sound. Using the `Prev' or `Next' buttons, scroll through the alarm options: `Once/Daily/ Weekends/Weekdays'. Use the `Enter'/Snooze' button to confirm selection. 7. Press the `Prev' or `Next' buttons (Ref.8/9) to change the volume, and press `Enter/Snooze' (Ref.12) to confirm. 8. Press the `Prev' or `Next' buttons (Ref.8/9) to choose the alarm - Alarm, DAB or FM Radio. Press `Enter/Snooze' (Ref.12) to confirm. If DAB or FM is set as the alarm tone, it the radio will play the last station listened to on that mode. 15 Instructions Guide Alarm Functions Cancelling the alarm To turn the alarm off fully before it sounds follow the same steps as you made to create the alarm: Press and hold the `Info/Menu' button (Ref.6). To highlight your choice, use the `Prev' or `Next' buttons (Ref.8/9) to select "Alarm 1 Set" or "Alarm 2 Set" and press the `Enter/ Snooze' button (Ref.12) to begin setting your chosen alarm. To turn the Alarm off, press `Next' (Ref.9) so that "OFF" is flashing and press the `Enter/Snooze' button (Ref.12) to confirm. Snooze/Switch off Alarm when sounding When the alarm sounds, press the `Enter/Snooze' button (Ref.12) to snooze for 9 minutes. The radio will then go into standby mode. To turn the alarm off completely when it is sounding, press the `Power' button (Ref. 3). 16 Instructions Guide Other Functions System Reset When doing a system reset, all presets made and setting options will be reset. Press and hold the `Info/Menu' button (Ref.6). Use the `Prev' or `Next' buttons (Ref.8/9) to highlight "Factory Reset" and press the `Enter/Snooze' button (Ref.12). The display screen will show "Factory Reset". Use the `Next' button (Ref.9) to choose "Yes" or "No". Press the `Enter/Snooze' button (Ref.12) to confirm. SW Version - Software Version Display Press and hold the `Info/Menu' button (Ref.6). Use the `Prev/Next' button (Ref.8/9) to choose "SW Version". Press `Enter/Snooze' (Ref.12) to confirm. Earphone Jack You can listen to your DAB/FM Radio using headphones. Just plug the your headphones into the 3.5mm socket at the rear of the unit (Ref.2). 17 Instructions Guide Sleep Setting This enables you to programme the radio to switch off at a specific time, up to 120 minutes from activation. Press and hold the `Info/Menu' button (Ref.6). Use the `Prev' or `Next' buttons (Ref.8/9) to choose "Sleep Set" and press the `Enter/Snooze' button (Ref.12). Choose from OFF/120mins/90mins/60mins/45mins/30mins/ 15min or 5 mins using the `Prev' or `Next' buttons (Ref.8/9). When your choice is displayed press `Enter/Snooze' (Ref.12). The system will automatically start the timer. Once the timer has been set the minutes will countdown on the display screen. For example, if set to turn off in 5 minutes "S5" will flash, counting down to "S0" then the radio will go into standby mode. To turn the sleep timer off, follow the above instructions and choose "OFF" from the choices. NOTE: You can press the `Info/Menu' (Ref.6) button to go back to the previous step when programming the alarm. 18 Troubleshooting Observation Potential Cause/Solution No sound Buttons are not working The station is not tuned in. Fine tune the station. The volume is set to a low position. Increase the volume. Headphones may be connected. Disconnect the headphones. Turn off the unit and turn on after a few seconds. FM: Static sound DAB: Burbling/ intermittent cut-out Sound is distorted Signal reception is low. Adjust the aerial or move the unit to a stronger signal location. Re-scan stations. The volume is too high. Adjust the volume control. Desired station not found Weak signal. Use the manual tune function. Display shows "No Service" Display is blank Time and Date not setting automatically There is no DAB coverage in your area, or poor reception. Adjust the position of the aerial, or move the unit to a stronger signal location. This may occur if the broadcaster changes the label of a service or removes a label while tuned. The radio will try to retune or perform a scan. For the time and date to set automatically you need to turn on the system and switch to DAB radio and let this scan. Then press the `Power Mode' button and the will go into standby. The unit is also portable when powered by 4 x AA Batteries (Not Supplied). These can be inserted into the battery compartment on the back of the unit (Ref.14). Warranty All products come with a standard 12 month warranty. All items must be registered on www.majorityradios.co.uk for the warranty to be valid. Once on the web page, use the menu to find " register your product". You will also be given the chance to extend your warranty for an additional 24 months, free of charge. 20 Safety Information 1.
