PRECAUTIONS

PRODUCT CLEANING

Use a soft dry cloth for periodic cleaning. For severe stains, dampen the cloth with water only to avoid damaging the paint or plastic.

TEMPERATURE

Ensure the vehicle temperature is between -20°C and +60°C before operating the unit.

MAINTENANCE

If problems occur, do not attempt self-repair. Return the unit to your Alpine dealer or Service Station for servicing.

INSTALLATION LOCATION

Ensure the PWD-X5 is not installed in a location subjected to:

  • Direct sun and heat
  • High humidity and water
  • Excessive dust
  • Excessive vibrations

Getting Started

How To Read This Manual

The PWD-X5 is controlled via a wired controller, a mobile phone app, or PC software. This manual describes functions for each control method.

Mobile Phone App

Mobile Phone App Instructions

Download the PWD-X5 app from the Google Play Store (Android) or the iPhone App Store.

  1. Connect the USB Bluetooth adapter.
  2. Turn on the PWD-X5 unit.
  3. Turn Bluetooth ON on your smartphone.
  4. Search for "DSP-HD-XXXXX".
  5. Select "DSP-HD-XXXXX".
  6. Launch the Alpine PWD-X5 APP on your smartphone.

After launching, go to the Alpine page, read the Disclaimer, and click "Accept" to proceed to the homepage.

Home Screen

The home screen displays controls for Master Volume, Subwoofer level, source selection, and mute functions.

Adjust the Volume

Use the interface to adjust the Master Volume and Subwoofer level.

Switch Input Source

Click the [Source BT] setting to select the desired input source (e.g., Hi-Level, Aux, Bluetooth).

Preset (Save and Recall)

Save your current audio settings to one of the preset slots by selecting a preset number.

App Sync

Select the pairing icon [ ] to begin pairing. A confirmation icon [ ] will appear when paired, indicating the app can control the unit.

Professional User Interface

Click [Pro users] to access advanced DSP functions. A user password (8888) may be required.

Change Output Channel

Select the desired output channel (e.g., FL, FR, RL, RR, SUB W) from the top of the interface.

Set Equalizer

Adjust frequency and Q-factor by pressing the values. Gain can be adjusted using a slider.

Reset / Restore Equalizer

  1. Click [Reset EQ] to revert all EQ parameters to default values.
  2. Click [Restore EQ] to toggle the Equalizer on or off.

Output Level, Phase and Mute

  1. Set channel volume levels using the on-screen controls and +/- buttons.
  2. Change the phase from 0° to 180°.
  3. Press the speaker icon to mute or unmute the channel.

Set Crossover (XOver)

Select "XOver" from the settings menu to configure crossover frequencies (HPF/LPF) and slopes (e.g., 6/12/18/24 dB/oct for different channels).

Channel Linking

Use the link button to link left and right channels. Select which channel to copy settings to/from (e.g., "Copy from right to left").

Time Correction

  1. Select "Output" then "Delay".
  2. Adjust delay values per channel using the +/- buttons.
  3. Select the unit of measure (ms, inch, cm).

Balance/Fader

Press and slide the dot on the balance/fader interface to adjust the balance and fader positions.

Software for PC

Software Instructions

Download the PWD-X5 PC software from the Alpine Electronics website. Install and use it to tune the PWD-X5 machine. The functions are similar to the mobile app.

PC Software System Requirements

  • Operating System: Microsoft® Windows® (XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10).
  • CPU: 1.6GHz or higher.
  • Memory Card: 1GB or higher.
  • Hard Disk: 512MB or more space.
  • PC Resolution: 1280*768 or higher.

Before connecting the PWD-X5 to the PC, install the PWD-X5 software.

PC Interface

Control Interface

The PWD-X5 PC software offers two interfaces for master tuning: EQ and crossover. Click the EQ curve graph to access these settings.

The interface displays controls for Master Volume, Balance, Delay, and individual channel EQ/crossover settings.

PC Connection

  1. Connect the PWD-X5 to the PC using a USB cable.
  2. Launch the software and press "Connect".

Mine, Save, Open

Use the "Mine" option to select language and input mode. Settings can be saved or opened from this menu.

The "Upgrade" option allows for software updates from Alpine Electronics. The "About" section displays the device version.

Call and Store Preset

Call and store preset sound effects. Click "Save" to set up to 15 preset sound effects.

Adjust the Master Volume

Adjust the master volume using the slider or controls.

Time Correction

Select "Delay" to open a window for adjusting delay units and values per channel.

Set Output Channel EQ

Select a channel by clicking on the speaker representation. Click the EQ graph to reveal the EQ menu for adjusting Gain, Frequency, Q factor, HPF/LPF, and Slope.

Wired Controller

Remote Commander Operating Instructions

Connect the PWD-X5 wired controller to the PWD-X5 machine and power on. Note: The controller will not function if PC/BT is connected.

Adjusting Volume and Subwoofer Level

  1. Turn the knob to adjust the master volume.
  2. Press the knob once to change to subwoofer level adjustment.
  3. Press and hold the knob for 2-3 seconds to mute the output.

Switching Sources

  1. Press the knob to cycle through input sources (e.g., H LEVEL, BT, AUX).
  2. Turn the knob to select the desired source and press to confirm.

Selecting Preset

  1. Long press the knob (approximately 5 seconds) to enter preset selection mode.
  2. Select the desired preset number (1-6 shown) and press the knob to load it.

Connection Diagram

The connection diagram illustrates how to connect the PWD-X5 unit:

  • 1. USB/REM Port: Connects to the computer via USB3.0 for software control (data storage, EQ). Also connects to the wired controller via USB3.0 for source switching and volume control.
  • 2. Bluetooth Input: External Bluetooth interface for wireless audio streaming and app connectivity. Indicator light illuminates when connected.
  • 3. AUX Input: Connects to in-vehicle CD or DVD low-level output for AUX source.
  • 4. REM Input Switch: Select "REM" to start the machine via remote turn-on signal, or "DC" for high-level input signal start.
  • 5. In-vehicle CD or DVD Main Machine: The source unit.
  • 6. High-level Input / Power Input: Connects to in-vehicle CD or DVD for high-level signals and power.
  • 7. Amplifier Output: Connects the PWD-X5 outputs to the speakers.
  • 8. Power Supply: Connects the unit to the vehicle's 12V battery (via fuse and ground).

Notes:

  • Use original cables for designated vehicles.
  • High-level REM input (HOST) uses H1+/H3+ cables.
