Carbon Monoxide (CO) Detector/Alarm Requirement:

Owners or users must install a carbon monoxide detector or alarm in any equipment room (including portable trailers or enclosed areas) where fuel-fired objects are located or carbon monoxide may be produced by any non-exempt boiler, water heater, pool heater, or pressure vessel. Installation must adhere to established standards.

Detector/Alarm Specifications:

• a. Display: Must have a visible display showing the parts per million (PPM) value of detected carbon monoxide. Alarms at 50 PPM.
• b. Power: Must be supplied by building power with battery backup. Alarms should indicate low battery backup power.
• c. Installation & Calibration: Must be installed, tested, and calibrated according to Manufacturer Recommendations. A logbook (digital or analog) of testing and calibration must be accessible to inspectors and owner's staff.
• d. Alarms: Must have visible and audible alarms audible and visible within the equipment room, capable of being heard above operational noise inside and immediately outside the boiler room.
