Technicolor DGA0122 Quick Setup Guide
This guide provides instructions for setting up your Technicolor DGA0122 device.
1. Before You Start
Carefully read the Safety Instructions and Regulatory Notices document included in your package before continuing with the installation of your DGA0122.
2. Check the Content of Your Package
Your package contains the following items:
- A: One DGA0122
- B: User Documentation (this Quick Setup Guide, Safety Instructions & Regulatory Notices...). Other additional documents may be included.
- C: One power adapter (type may differ depending on region)
- D: One DSL cable
- E: One Ethernet cable with yellow connectors
3. Connect Your DGA0122 to the Broadband Service
Choose your installation method:
- Directly connect your DGA0122 to your service provider's DSL network. In this setup, your DGA0122 is used as a DSL gateway. Follow the instructions from "Option A: Connect as DSL gateway".
- Place your DGA0122 behind another Internet access device (for example, an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) for fibre). In this setup, your DGA0122 is used as a local Ethernet router. Follow the instructions from "Option B: Connect as local Ethernet router".
Option A: Connect as DSL gateway
Instructions:
- Plug the DSL cable into the grey DSL port on your DGA0122.
- Plug the other end of the DSL cable into your telephone wall socket.
Note: If your DGA0122 is used as a DSL gateway, do not connect any device to the red port labelled WAN.
Option B: Connect as local Ethernet router
Instructions:
- Plug an Ethernet cable into the red port labelled WAN.
- Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port of your Internet access device.
Note: If your DGA0122 is used as a local Ethernet router, do not connect any device to the grey DSL port.
4. Power on Your DGA0122
Instructions:
- Plug the connector of the electric power supply adapter into the power inlet port (--+) of your DGA0122. Plug the adapter into a nearby power outlet.
- Press the power button (1) on the back panel.
Status Indicator: If the LED is blinking green or orange, your DGA0122 is updating its software. In this case, wait until the LED becomes solid green. This can take several minutes! Do not power off your DGA0122 or unplug any cables!
5. Connect Your Network Devices
It is recommended to first connect one computer/tablet (if possible via a wired connection), then complete the rest of the procedure, and as a final step connect the other devices.
5.1. Connect Your Wired (Ethernet) Devices
If you want to connect a device using a wired (Ethernet) connection:
- Take the Ethernet cable with the yellow connectors.
- Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to one of the yellow Ethernet ports of your DGA0122.
- Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to your device.
- Connect your other Ethernet devices.
- It is recommended to first configure your DGA0122 (see "6. Configure your DGA0122 to your needs (optional)") before connecting your Wi-Fi devices (see "5.2. Connect your Wi-Fi devices").
5.2. Connect Your Wi-Fi Devices
Your DGA0122 has two Wi-Fi access points:
- The 5 GHz access point offers superior transfer rates, is less sensitive to interference, and allows you to connect Wi-Fi 5 (IEEE802.11a/n/ac) devices that support 5 GHz.
- The 2.4 GHz access point allows you to connect Wi-Fi 4 (IEEE802.11b/g/n) devices. Use this access point for Wi-Fi devices that don't support 5 GHz.
Note: Your DGA0122 supports band steering, a function that lets your DGA0122 automatically select the best access point for each of your connected Wi-Fi devices. If band steering is enabled, both access points will appear as one.
6. Configure Your DGA0122 to Your Needs (Optional)
The DGA0122 web interface allows you to configure your DGA0122 using your web browser. To access the DGA0122 web user interface:
- Browse to http://192.168.1.1 on a computer or device that is currently connected to your DGA0122 (either wired or over Wi-Fi).
- The DGA0122 web interface appears. By default, you are logged in as guest. This means that some items are hidden. To view all items, click Sign In and enter admin as user name and the ACCESS KEY printed on the label of your DGA0122 as password.
7. Troubleshooting
7.1. Turning the Wi-Fi Off or On
When you press and hold the Wi-Fi (0) button between three and eight seconds, the Wi-Fi will be turned off or on depending on its current state.
How can I tell whether the Wi-Fi is on?
- If at least one of the Wi-Fi (0) LEDs is solid or blinking green, the Wi-Fi is on and one or more Wi-Fi devices are connected.
- If both Wi-Fi (0) LEDs are off, then use one of the following methods to check if the Wi-Fi is on:
- Browse to the DGA0122 web interface (see "6. Configure your DGA0122 to your needs (optional)") and check the color of the bullets in the Wireless card. If the bullets are green, then the Wi-Fi is on.
- On a Wi-Fi device that is within range of the DGA0122, check whether the DGA0122 appears in the list of available networks.
7.2. WPS Troubleshooting
WPS does not start
Make sure that the Wi-Fi is on. For more information, see "7.1. Turning the Wi-Fi off or on".
The WPS LED is blinking red
This indicates that your DGA0122 could not connect to your Wi-Fi device. Do the following:
- Wait two minutes and then start WPS again.
- Turn your DGA0122 slightly and then try again.
- Obstructions may deteriorate the signal strength. Try to minimize the number of walls between the two devices and then try again.
- Move the devices closer to each other and then try again.
7.3. How to Reset Your DGA0122
If at some point you want to restore the default settings, proceed as follows:
- Make sure that your DGA0122 is turned on.
- Use a pen or an unfolded paperclip to push the recessed Reset button on your DGA0122 for at least 10 seconds, and then release it.
Your DGA0122 restarts and applies the factory default settings.
Connecting a Wi-Fi Device Manually
On your Wi-Fi device, proceed as follows:
- Open the list of available Wi-Fi networks and select the entry that contains the Network Name from the label.
- Your Wi-Fi device will ask you to enter the Wi-Fi key or password.
Wi-Fi Settings Label
The label of your DGA0122 provides useful information about your Wi-Fi network:
- The Network Name: This name is used to identify your Wi-Fi network. Some use the term SSID instead.
- The Wireless Key: This key is used to secure your Wi-Fi network. Only devices that use this key can connect to the Wi-Fi network. You can enter this key manually or configure it automatically using WPS.
Note: If band steering is disabled, each access point will have its own Network Name and Wireless Key.
Tips for Optimal Link Quality:
- Always try to reduce the number of obstacles (especially walls) between your Wi-Fi devices to a minimum.
- Do not place your Wi-Fi devices in the neighbourhood of devices that cause interference (microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.).
Connecting a Wi-Fi Device Using WPS Push Button Configuration (PBC)
- Make sure that your Wi-Fi devices support WPS PBC and you know how to start it. For more information, consult the documentation of your Wi-Fi device.
- On your DGA0122, briefly press the WPS (✔) button and release it. The WPS (✔) LED starts blinking orange.
- Within two minutes, start WPS PBC on your Wi-Fi device. You will probably have to do this in one of the following ways:
- Press a WPS (✔) button on your Wi-Fi device.
- Start WPS (PBC) on the user interface of your Wi-Fi device.
- Open a list of available networks and select the Network Name mentioned on the label of your DGA0122.
- After a few seconds, your Wi-Fi device should be connected.
Note: If the WPS (✔) LED starts blinking red, then your DGA0122 could not connect your Wi-Fi device. For more information, see "The WPS LED is blinking red" on page 21.
