Set up a mesh Wi-Fi network
To provide good signal coverage throughout a large house, purchase multiple H3C routers that support mesh Wi-Fi and use the following procedure to set up a mesh Wi-Fi network:
- Configure a router to access the Internet and use it as the controller.
- Connect the other routers as agents to the network 60 seconds after they power up by using either of the following methods.
Observe the LED status on the agents during the mesh Wi-Fi network setup process
Steady green: Good connection.
Steady orange: Fair connection.
Flashing orange: Failed connection.
Method 1: Wired networking
- Use a network cable to connect a WAN port on the agent to a LAN port on the controller.
Method 2: Wireless networking
- Press the Mesh button on the controller and agent simultaneously. A mesh Wi-Fi network will be set up by the routers automatically within 2 minutes.
- If multiple agents exist, repeat the preceding procedure to connect the agents one by one to the network.
- If the LED on a agent is not steady green, place the router near the controller or another agent that has been connected to the network.
Tips
Networking method
- As a best practice, use wired networking for a multi-floor house.
- To use wireless networking, make sure no isolation such as floor heating exists between floors, and try to place the routers at the same place on the upper and lower floors.
- As a best practice, use wireless networking for a large flat house.
Router placement
- Try to distribute routers evenly in areas with less obstruction.
- To use wireless networking, make sure less than two walls exist between routers.
