Product Usage Instructions

Attaching Accessories

1. Ensure the accessories are oriented correctly with the
locking pin on the left side.

2. Slide the locking pin inward and insert the right side, then
insert the locking pin side and release it. To remove, reverse the
process.

3. To attach the Telescoping Pole Accessory, loosen the knob,
slide the jaws over the RAM adapter ball, and tighten the knob.

Powering On/Off

1. Slide the battery latch lock toward the front of the
antenna.

2. Insert the battery with contacts facing downward and toward
NX25/NX15.

3. Press both antenna buttons to Power On and hold them to Power
Off.

4. For one-handed battery ejection, press on the battery with
your thumb and slide the latch lock forward using your index
finger.

Interface Options

NX25 and NX15 offer two interface options: Nexus Elements for
simple scanning via smartphone or tablet, Nexus for a more
full-featured experience when connected to Flex NX or Flex LT.

Switching Modes

To switch between Nexus and Nexus Elements: – For Nexus
Elements: Wait for a flashing yellow LED to pair with a mobile
device. – For Nexus: Wait for a flashing blue LED to pair with a
Flex system.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How do I know if the antenna is ready to pair with a mobile
device?

A: The antenna will display a flashing yellow LED when waiting
to pair with a mobile device in Nexus Elements mode.

Q: What should I do if my battery drains when the antenna is
powered off?

A: GSSI recommends removing the battery when NX25 and NX15 are
not in use to prevent draining.

Attaching Accessories

The NX25/NX15 RAM Adapter and Survey Wheel attachment locations (left, rear) are interchangeable.
NOTE: accessories can only attach in orientations shown, with the locking pin on the left side.
Slide the locking pin inward and insert the right side, with the locking pin to the left. Next, insert the locking pin side and release the locking pin. To remove, reverse the process.
To attach the Telescoping Pole Accessory (sold separately) to NX25 and NX15, loosen the knob, then slide the jaws over the RAM adapter ball and tighten the knob.

Encoder Configurations

Encoder configurations used for Normal Polarization · Left: Encoder Flipped · Back: Encoder Straight Normal Polarization is best for typical scanning scenarios and target locating. Orange Arrows show direction of antenna travel for each encoder position.
Encoder configurations used for Cross-Polarization · Left: Encoder Straight · Back: Encoder Flipped Cross-polarization provides a different view of scan data and is best for identifying important targets below reinforcement.

Powering NX25 and NX15 Antennas

Slide battery latch lock toward the front of the antenna. Use battery to push up on the battery latch and insert the battery.
Note: Battery can only be inserted with battery contacts toward NX25/ NX15 and facing downward.
Press both antenna buttons to Power On.
Press and hold both antenna buttons to Power Off.
One-handed battery ejection: Use thumb to press on battery and index finger to slide the battery latch lock toward the front of the antenna.
IMPORTANT: Electronic devices may drain a battery when powered off. GSSI recommends removing the battery when NX25 and NX15 are not in use.

Interface Options for NX25 and NX15

NX25 and NX15 feature two distinct user interfaces: Nexus Elements, for simple mark-and-go scanning using a smartphone or tablet; and Nexus, a more full-featured experience available when connected to Flex NX or Flex LT. NOTE: NX25 and NX15 will power on in the last used Mode.
NX25 and NX15 LED Status
Nexus Elements: NX25 and NX15 will display a flashing yellow LED when waiting to pair with a mobile device.
Nexus: NX25 and NX15 will display a flashing blue LED when waiting to pair with a Flex system.
Switch from Nexus to Nexus Elements by allowing the antenna to power on, then wait 1 minute for the antenna to change modes. Switch from Nexus Elements to Nexus by NFC pairing with Flex NX, or by using the Tether Module to connect to Flex NX or Flex LT.

Connecting to Nexus Elements

Nexus Elements supports these operating systems and browsers:
We recommend updating Safari and Chrome to the latest version available for your device. Mobile device models with outdated browser versions may experience performance and compatibility issues.
To connect to the Nexus Elements interface:
1. Power on NX25 or NX15 and wait for the flashing yellow LED. If the LED flashes blue, wait 1 minute for the antenna to switch to Nexus Elements and display a flashing yellow LED.
2. Open Wi-Fi settings on your phone or tablet. Tap on the wireless network name that matches your antenna’s model number and serial number (e.g. NX25_00123; NX15_00456).

· Android users may see a “network has no internet access” popup. Tap “Yes” and “Don’t ask again for this network”.
3. Open the browser recommended for your operating system, then type nx.local into the address bar and tap enter.
If your browser is minimized or not used for a while, or your mobile device turns off its screen, simply go back to the browser and tap the refresh button.

Nexus Elements Main Dashboard

Nexus Elements will start at the Main Dashboard. From here, you can:

View the system type, system serial number, and software version

Assign actions to the antenna’s two integrated buttons

·

Select measurement units and language preference

·

Download system logs and perform a software update

·

Tap the battery icon to display current battery charge

·

Start a new scan

To begin, tap the Start New Scan icon

Select the appropriate Concrete Type based the state of concrete cure. This menu only appears once during each session.
Last Used will apply the dielectric value from previous sessions.
An incorrect dielectric will greatly impact depth readings. While viewing scan data, use the Matching tool from the Depth Settings menu to further refine the depth scale accuracy.

A blank data viewing screen will appear, with Start Scan already enabled. Before you move the antenna, take a moment to familiarize yourself with the viewing screen’s features and controls.

When using the backup cursor, tap this to jump to the end of the scan.

Data Viewing Screen: Scanning

Move the antenna forward to view live data populating from left to right. The viewing window displays a distance scale above the scan and a depth scale on the left side. The scales display the units selected on the Main Dashboard.
Move the antenna in reverse to view a backup cursor and a dialog box displaying distance and horizontal cursor depth. The cursor is aligned with the center marks on the antenna. Use the backup cursor and center marks to accurately mark target locations on the scanning surface.

Tap on the depth scale to open a window with three nested menus: Gain, Display, and Depth. For now, click the Gain icon in the lower left. Here you can use the slider to adjust the overall contrast of the scan data, or select one of three general depth regions (shallow, medium, deep) to selectively adjust contrast for each area. Tap to close the menu window.

Tap at the bottom of the panel to adjust Display settings. Here you can quickly change the color table, toggle the O-Scope, or adjust Width Scaling to expand or compress the scan data.

Toggle the O-Scope to view additional target details at the backup cursor’s location, such as phase and amplitude information. Use one finger to move the horizontal cursor to a location of interest. With practice, you can use the O-Scope to make advanced interpretations.

Use Width Scaling to compress or expand the horizontal scale. Setting 1 compresses targets fully and Setting 4 expands targets fully.

Now click the Depth icon in the lower right corner of the menu. Here you can fine tune your dielectric value to improve depth scale accuracy. Tap the down-facing arrow and select Matching. Use one finger to move the crosshairs over the center of a target, then use the slider to fit the curve to the target’s shape. Moving the slider also updates the depth scale.

Updating NX25 and NX15

Follow these steps to update your antenna using a mobile device and the Nexus

Elements Interface*:

3. Next, Tap “Choose a file” and browse your device storage for the update file (.zip format). The system will display a warning if an incorrect file was selected. Tap Next to transfer the update 3. files to the antenna. A progress indicator will be displayed. This may take a minute or two; please be patient. The system will display an error if an earlier software update was selected; please select a version higher than your current version.

updating. Do not power off the antenna. The

5. You can now reconnect to your antenna. Close

the current browser tab, then connect as normal.
