1. Unpack and Check Components
Carefully unpack your Brother machine, removing all protective tape and film. Illustrations may vary slightly by model, but the core steps are consistent. It is advisable to save all original packing materials.
For connectivity, a USB 2.0 cable (Type A/B) up to 2 meters is recommended. For wired network connections, a Category 5 or higher twisted-pair cable is required.
2. Load Paper
Load plain A4 paper into the paper tray. Refer to the model name on the front of your machine to proceed with the correct steps.
3. Connect Telephone Line (MFC Models)
For MFC-T930DW and MFC-T935DW models, if using the fax function, connect the telephone line cord to the socket marked 'LINE'. Consult the Online User's Guide for detailed fax feature instructions.
4. Connect Power Cord
Connect the power cord. The machine will power on automatically. Follow any on-screen prompts for country or language selection.
5. Choose Setup Method
Select your preferred setup method:
- Mobile App or Computer Software: Recommended for a comprehensive setup. Visit setup.brother.com for instructions.
- Control Panel: Follow the on-screen instructions directly on the machine's control panel.
Note: Additional devices can be connected later by installing the necessary software.
6. Fill Ink Tanks
Open the ink tank cover. Align the ink bottle with the corresponding tank and insert it. The ink will fill automatically. If ink flow is slow, reinsert the bottle. Once filled, carefully remove the bottle and seal the ink tank with its cap.
7. Set Date and Time
Follow the instructions displayed on the machine's LCD to set the current date and time.
8. Set Firmware Update Notifications
For MFC-T930DW/MFC-T935DW models, configure your firmware update preferences when prompted by the information screen.
9. Check Print Quality
After initial ink system cleaning, print a Print Quality Check Sheet. Compare the printed output with the examples shown on the machine's LCD and select the closest match to ensure optimal print quality. Cleaning may be required again.
10. Adjust Print Alignment
To ensure accurate printing, print the Adjustment Sheet. Place it face down on the scanner glass, aligning the indicated mark. Follow the LCD instructions to complete the alignment process.
11. Connect Device
Connect your computer or mobile device by visiting setup.brother.com. Ensure your device is connected to the same network as the printer. For USB connections, locate the appropriate port on the machine.
Manual Wireless Setup
For wireless connection, find your network's SSID and Network Key. Follow the on-screen prompts on the machine to select your network and enter the key. If you cannot find this information, consult your network administrator or router manufacturer.
Setup Complete
Your Brother machine is now ready for use. For enhanced security, it is recommended to change the default password for managing the machine's settings, typically found on the back of the device.
