Getting Started
1. Prepare
Ensure you have a valid nano-SIM card. The device requires a nano-SIM card for operation.
SIM Card Types:
- USIM (Standard SIM)
- micro-SIM
- nano-SIM
Refer to the label on your device for default information such as Wi-Fi SSID and password. The diagrams provided are for reference.
2. Insert the nano-SIM Card
Open the slot cover located at the bottom of the device. Insert the nano-SIM card into the slot.
3. Power on Your Device
Connect the provided power adapter to the device. The device will power on automatically and attempt to connect to the Internet.
Accessing the Internet
Wi-Fi Connection
Locate the default WLAN SSID and WLAN key (password) on the label affixed to your device. Connect your mobile device to this Wi-Fi network to access the Internet.
Network Cable (RJ45) Connection
Connect your computer to the device using an Ethernet cable via the WAN/LAN1 or LAN2 port to access the Internet.
Device Settings and Modes
Changing Device Settings
You can customize your device settings by accessing the 4G CPE web page:
- Find the default Device Manager Website IP address and Website Password on the label of your device.
- Open an internet browser and enter the Device Manager Website IP address into the address bar.
- Enter the Website Password and click "Login".
- Once the 4G CPE web page is open, you can modify settings such as the Wi-Fi SSID and password.
Cable Broadband Mode
Your device supports Cable Broadband Mode, allowing you to connect to the internet via a broadband service provider.
- Connect the WAN/LAN1 port of your device to the broadband service network port using a network cable.
- Log in to the 4G CPE web page.
- Navigate to change the operation mode to "Cable Broadband Mode".
- Note: Ensure you disconnect from the Internet before changing the mode.
- Configure the detailed parameters provided by your service provider.
- Connect your clients to access the Internet.
Advanced Features
Mesh Network Function
The MF289F supports Mesh Network functionality, enabling you to create an extended Wi-Fi coverage area by connecting multiple devices of the same model. This ensures seamless Wi-Fi roaming throughout your home.
To set up your mesh network:
- Log in to the 4G CPE web page.
- View the current mesh network status and select the relevant option.
- Enable the mesh network and configure Wi-Fi settings.
- Set the Mesh Network Wi-Fi parameters and click "Apply".
- Add additional sub-node devices to your mesh network.
- Enjoy your expanded Wi-Fi network.
Note: Remember the Wi-Fi parameters you set for your mesh network, as your devices (smartphones, laptops, etc.) will use these to connect.
Telephone Function
This device supports telephone functionality. To use this feature, insert a nano-SIM card and connect a telephone.
To make a call:
- Pick up the telephone handset.
- Dial the desired telephone number.
- Wait for the call to be connected.
WPS Function
The WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) function allows for easy connection of clients to your device.
- Press and hold the WPS button on the device for approximately 5 seconds to activate the WPS function.
- Enable the WPS function on your client device.
- Follow the on-screen prompts on your client device to establish the connection.
Indicator Lights and Interfaces
Understanding the device's indicators and ports is crucial for operation and troubleshooting.
Indicator Lights
- [1] POWER: White solid indicates power is on and the external power supply is working. Off indicates power is off.
- [2] WIFI: White solid indicates Wi-Fi is working normally with no data transmission or the Mesh network is working normally. White blinking slowly indicates Wi-Fi is working normally with data transmission, or the Mesh network function is enabled but not yet created, or the Mesh network creation was unsuccessful. White blinking fast indicates WPS is activating or the Mesh network is being created. Off indicates Wi-Fi is off.
- [3] NETWORK: Red solid indicates the device is in an error status, not registered to the mobile network, has no nano-SIM card inserted, or has no network service available. Green solid indicates the device is registered to the 2G/3G mobile network. Green blinking indicates the device is connected to the 2G/3G mobile network and data is being transferred. White solid indicates the device is registered to the 4G LTE network. White blinking indicates the device is connected to the 4G LTE network and data is being transferred.
- [4] WPS key: Press and hold for approximately 5 seconds to activate the WPS function.
- [5] External antenna: Ports to connect external antennas.
Ports
- PHONE port: Connect to a telephone.
- LAN ports: WAN/LAN1 port can connect to the WAN in Cable Broadband Mode or to a PC. LAN2 port connects to a PC.
- Power port: Connect the power adapter.
- nano-SIM card slot and reset hole: Insert your nano-SIM card here. The reset hole allows you to restore the device to factory settings by pressing and holding for approximately 3 seconds.

Internet Related Problems

Voice Related Problems
Symptoms | Possible Problems / Solutions |

There is no dial tone. | Please wait for 1-2 minutes after the device is turned on. Please check the NETWORK indicator. If you have no good RF reception, change the location of the device. |
There is a prompt / phone alert / announcement as soon as I lift the phone off the hook. | Make sure your nano-SIM card is inserted correctly and the PIN number has been entered. If the PIN number has been entered incorrectly, you will need to enter the PUK code when prompted. |
The line is noisy/distorted when I lift the phone off the hook. |

Cleaning and Maintaining
- Use an antistatic cloth for cleaning. Avoid chemical or abrasive cleansers.
- Turn off the device before cleaning.
Environmental and Operational Guidelines
- Operate the device within a temperature range of -20°C to +55°C and store it between -40°C to +70°C. The humidity range is 5% to 95%.
- Do not use the device during a thunderstorm; disconnect the power adapter from the wall socket.
Limited Warranty
This warranty does not cover defects or errors caused by:
- Reasonable wear and tear.
- Failure to follow ZTE's installation, operation, or maintenance instructions.
- Mishandling, misuse, negligence, or improper installation, disassembly, storage, servicing, or operation.
- Unauthorized modifications or repairs.
- Power failures, surges, fire, flood, accidents, or other events beyond ZTE's reasonable control.
- Usage of third-party products or combined usage with third-party products causing defects.
- Any cause beyond the product's normal intended usage.
ZTE's liability is limited to the sole remedy of repair or replacement, and excludes implied warranties unless mandated by law.

ZTE is not liable for any loss of profits or indirect, special, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of this product, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
