Positioning Your SR-8000 Surround Speakers
Connecting Your Loudspeakers
VERY IMPORTANT:
Do not use your receiver’s auto setup function!!! The bipolar nature of this speaker will often confuse the receiver’s auto setup.
Dolby Digital and DTS multi-channel systems have critical channel balance and speaker setup procedures which must be followed if the system is to perform properly. Consult your receiver’s or processor’s manual to learn how to access your system setup menus. Set speaker setup to “small” and crossover to 80Hz for the SR-8080BP and 100Hz for the SR-8040BP.
Troubleshooting
If you experience any difficulties with your SR Series loudspeakers, try the suggestions below. If you still have problems, contact your Definitive Technology Authorized Dealer for assistance.
- Audible distortion when the speakers are playing at loud levels is caused by driving (turning up) your receiver or amplifier louder than it or the speakers are capable of playing. Most receivers and amplifiers put out their full-rated power well before the volume control is turned all the way up, so the position of the volume control is a poor indicator of its power limit. If your speakers distort when you play them loud, turn the volume down!
- If you experience a lack of bass, it is likely that one speaker is out of phase with the other and needs to be rewired paying closer attention to connect positive to positive and negative to negative on both channels. Most speaker wire has some indicator (such as color-coding, ribbing or writing) on one of the two conductors to help you maintain consistency. It is essential to connect both speakers to the amplifier in the same way (in phase).
- Make sure all your system interconnects are solidly in place.
- Check that no foreign objects or liquid has entered the speaker cabinet.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
A high-quality surround sound system must have bipolar speakers. When they’re powered by a receiver that can reproduce high-definition audio, their specific driver configuration gives you a larger field of sound and improved audio effects.
The Definitive Technology BP-9060 Tower Speaker is most likely the best option for you if you have a strong passion for music and want a fresh listening experience. It’s one of the best speakers in the world and offers a once-in-a-lifetime audio experience.
Bipolar speakers are made to be utilized as side or back speakers in a surround system to create ambience. Although they can be used as main speakers, they might not function as effectively as a bookshelf or floor-standing speaker in that capacity.
Bipolar speakers typically operate as surround speakers in all surround installations with the front drivers aimed at the listener.
Due to their inherent imprecision, dipole and bipole speakers cannot be relied upon to accurately locate Atmos sound objects. Choose traditional speakers for the rear channels if you’re using Atmos.
Bipole speakers are for you if you listen to a lot of music or if you can’t place the speakers perfectly perpendicular to the listening position.
According to the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, many persons with bipolar disorder go through two cycles each year.
Your bipolar symptoms may be brought on by a variety of factors, including stress, poor sleep, and even seasonal variations.
Speakers wired in parallel will always be louder. Less voltage per speaker due to series wiring results in increased impedance, which reduces speaker volume.
Some individuals think speakers perform better if the audio originates from a single point in space.
If there is no subwoofer connected and another auto-calibration program is being used, all speakers should be set to “big,” which the AV receiver will likely do automatically.
As speakers become classics or antiques, they get significantly better with time. Electrical energy is transformed into vibrations in speakers to produce sound, and these vibrations create stress on the speaker’s internal parts.
Remember that speakers are often made to sound best when they are level with your ears when you are listening to them, whether you have them on stands, a shelf, or mounted on the wall.
