Wireless N Nano Router

Operation Modes
The TL-WR802N supports multiple operation modes:
- Wireless Router (Default): For sharing a wired connection with wireless devices, suitable for hotel rooms or small offices.
- WISP (Hotspot): To create a personal Wi-Fi hotspot from a public Wi-Fi network.
- Range Extender: To extend the range of an existing Wi-Fi network.
- Client: To enable wired devices (like smart TVs or game consoles) to connect to a Wi-Fi network.
- Access Point: To transform an existing wired network into a Wi-Fi network.
During Travel
Wireless Router Mode
Setup Steps:
- Connect the router according to the diagram (Steps A to C).
- Connect to the Wi-Fi using the default SSID and password found on the Wi-Fi Info Card or the product label.
- Check internet connection. If redirected to an authentication page, proceed to the next steps.
- Launch a web browser, go to
http://tplinkwifi.net
, and create a password to log in. - Click 'Next' to start Quick Setup. Select 'Wireless Router' and click 'Next'.
- Select the WAN Connection Type (e.g., Dynamic IP for hotel rooms/small offices) and follow the instructions.
- On the Wireless page, customize or keep the default Wireless Network Name (SSID) and Password, then click 'Next'.
- Click 'Save' to complete the configuration.
- If you changed the Wi-Fi name and password, reconnect your wireless devices.
WISP (Hotspot) Mode
Setup Steps:
- Connect the router according to the diagram (Steps A to B).
- Connect to the Wi-Fi using the default SSID and password.
- Launch a web browser, go to
http://tplinkwifi.net
, and create a password to log in. - Click 'Next' to start Quick Setup. Select 'WISP' and click 'Next'.
- Select the WAN Connection Type and follow the instructions.
- Select the public Wi-Fi network you want to connect to and click 'Next'.
- Enter the public Wi-Fi's password. Customize your Wi-Fi network name and password in the AP Setting section, then click 'Next'.
- Click 'Finish' to complete the configuration.
- If you changed the Wi-Fi name and password, reconnect your wireless devices.
At Home
Range Extender Mode
Setup Steps:
- Connect the router according to the diagram (Steps A to B).
- Connect to the Wi-Fi using the default SSID and password.
- Launch a web browser, go to
http://tplinkwifi.net
, and create a password to log in. - Click 'Next' to start Quick Setup. Select 'Range Extender' and click 'Next'.
- Select the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to and click 'Next'.
- Enter the Wi-Fi network's password. Customize the Range Extender's Wireless Name or copy from the host AP, then click 'Next'.
- Select the router type or leave Smart IP as default, then click 'Next'.
- Click 'Finish' to complete the configuration. The extended network will share the same password as the host network.
Client Mode
Setup Steps:
- Connect the router according to the diagram (Steps A to B).
- Connect to the Wi-Fi using the default SSID and password.
- Launch a web browser, go to
http://tplinkwifi.net
, and create a password to log in. - Click 'Next' to start Quick Setup. Select 'Client' and click 'Next'.
- Select the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to and click 'Next'.
- Enter the Wi-Fi network's password, then click 'Next'.
- Select the router type or leave Smart IP as default, then click 'Next'.
- Click 'Finish' to complete the configuration. Your Ethernet-only device can now access the internet.
Access Point Mode
Setup Steps:
- Connect the router according to the diagram (Steps A to C).
- Connect to the Wi-Fi using the default SSID and password.
- Launch a web browser, go to
http://tplinkwifi.net
, and create a password to log in. - Click 'Next' to start Quick Setup. Select 'Access Point' and click 'Next'.
- Customize or keep the default Wireless Network Name and Wireless Password, then click 'Next'.
- Select the router type or leave Smart IP as default, then click 'Next'.
- Click 'Finish' to complete the configuration.
- If you changed the Wi-Fi name and password, reconnect your wireless devices.
Ports and LED Information
Ports:
- LAN/WAN Port: Functions as WAN in Wireless Router mode and LAN in WISP, Range Extender, and Client modes. Connects to the existing router in Access Point mode.
- Power: Connect to a USB charger, power adapter, or computer USB port via the USB cable for power.
- Reset: Press and hold with a pin for about 5 seconds until the LED blinks to restore factory default settings.
LED Status:
- Solid: The router is connected to the host Wi-Fi network or the internet.
- Blinking Steadily: The router is disconnected from the host Wi-Fi network or the internet.
- Blinking Irregularly: The router is booting or updating firmware.
Finding Default Wi-Fi Name (SSID) and Password
The default Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password can be found on:
- Wi-Fi Info Card: Typically provided with the router.
- Product Label: Located on the bottom of the router.
Using with Streaming Devices (e.g., Amazon Fire TV Stick, Chromecast)
When traveling, you can use the router to connect streaming devices to hotel TVs:
- Connect your laptops, smartphones, or tablets to the router.
- Plug the HDMI streaming stick directly into the hotel TV.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the streaming device to the router's Wi-Fi.
- Enjoy streaming content on the TV.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- Q1. What should I do if I cannot access the internet?
- If using a cable modem, unplug the Ethernet cable, reboot the modem, wait for its LED to stabilize, then reconnect the cable.
- If in a hotel or at a trade show, internet access may require authentication or purchase.
- If internet access is still unavailable, contact TP-Link Technical Support.
- Q2. How do I restore the router to its factory default settings?
- With the router powered on, use a pin to press and hold the Reset button for about 5 seconds until the LED blinks. This clears all previous configurations and resets the router to the default Wireless Router mode.
- Q3. What should I do if I forget my web management password?
- Reset the router as described in FAQ > Q2, then create a new password to log in.
- Q4. What should I do if I forget my Wi-Fi password?
- If you haven't changed it, the default Wi-Fi Password is on the Wi-Fi Info Card or product label.
- Connect a computer via Ethernet, log in to the web management page, and go to Wireless > Wireless Security to retrieve or reset the password.
- Q5. What can I do if my wireless signal is unstable or weak?
- This may be caused by interference. Try the following:
- Change the wireless channel.
- Choose a location with fewer obstacles between the router and the host AP. An open or spacious area is ideal.
- Move the router away from devices like Bluetooth devices, cordless phones, microwaves, and baby monitors to minimize interference.
- When in Range Extender mode, place the router about halfway between your host AP and the Wi-Fi dead zone, ensuring it's within the host network's range.
Safety Information
- Keep the device away from water, fire, humidity, or hot environments.
- Do not attempt to disassemble, repair, or modify the device.
- Do not use a damaged charger or USB cable.
- Only use recommended chargers.
- Do not use the device where wireless devices are not allowed.
- The adapter should be installed near the equipment and be easily accessible.
