1. Einleitung

The GeeekPi DeskPi RackMate TT is a compact and versatile server cabinet designed for efficient space utilization and device management. 2. Aufbau und Montage

The DeskPi RackMate TT arrives flat-packed and includes all necessary hardware and tools for assembly. Follow these steps for proper installation:

2.1 Auspacken und Komponentenidentifizierung

Carefully open the packaging. All hardware and parts are organized in trays to prevent rattling during transit. The package includes acrylic panels, metal frames, handles, rubber feet, various screws, and assembly tools (screwdrivers).

2.2 Preparing Acrylic Panels

The translucent acrylic panels come with a protective paper film. Gently peel off this film from both sides of each acrylic piece before assembly. This protects against scuffing or scratching during shipping.

  1. Identify the metal frame pieces. Note that some screws are pre-inserted at an angle in the corners of the main frame pieces. The extruder pieces (vertical supports) also have corresponding angled threaded inserts.
  2. Attach two extruder pieces to one of the main frame pieces. Ensure the flat side of the extruder piece is aligned correctly. Do not fully tighten the screws at this stage; leave a little slack to allow for adjustments.
  3. Repeat the process for the remaining two extruder pieces and the second main frame piece.
  4. Once all four extruder pieces are loosely attached to one main frame piece, you can begin inserting the acrylic side panels.

2.4 Installing Acrylic Side Panels

The extruder pieces have small grooves on their short and long sides. These grooves are designed to hold the acrylic panels.

  1. Take one acrylic side panel and carefully slide it down into the grooves of two opposing extruder pieces.
  2. Once the first panel is in place, repeat for the second acrylic side panel on the opposite side.
  3. With both side panels inserted, you can now tighten the screws on the main frame pieces. Tighten them gradually in a cross-pattern (like tightening a car tire) to ensure even pressure and proper alignment. This pressure will secure the acrylic panels in place.

2.5 Finalizing the Assembly

  1. Attach the top and bottom acrylic plates (or side plates, depending on orientation) to the assembled frame. These plates also slide into grooves.
  2. Secure the handles to the top of the frame using the provided screws.
  3. Attach the rubber feet to the bottom of the frame. These feet prevent scuffing and scratching of surfaces.

3. Operating Modes and Device Integration

The DeskPi RackMate TT offers flexible configuration options to suit your needs.

3.1 Vertikalmodus

In its standard vertical orientation, the RackMate TT can hold four to five mini PCs or similar compact devices. This mode is ideal for maximizing vertical space on a desk or shelf.

3.2 Horizontal Mode

To use the cabinet horizontally, simply swap the positions of the handles and the rubber feet. This reconfigures the unit into a 10-inch 3U server rack, capable of accommodating three layers of 1U devices. This mode allows for collaborative use of front and rear spaces, enhancing device arrangement flexibility.

The internal shelves feature various screw holes for mounting different devices. You can mount items such as:

  • Raspberry Pi and Jetson Nano motherboards: Use the provided 0.5U rack shelves. (Note: Copper pillars and screws for these specific boards are not included in the standard package.)
  • 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch HDDs: Dedicated mounting options are available on the shelves.
  • Mini PCs and network switches: The versatile design allows for secure placement of various compact devices.

3.4 Stacking and Side-by-Side Configuration

Multiple DeskPi RackMate TT units can be combined to expand your setup:

  • Vertical Stacking: Two units can be stacked vertically to create a larger 10U 7-inch rack. Special stacking bolts (M3-0.5 screws) are provided to secure the units together, ensuring stability.
  • Horizontal Side-by-Side: Units can also be placed side-by-side to create a wider rack solution.

4. Wartung

To ensure the longevity and optimal appearance of your DeskPi RackMate TT, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:

5. Fehlerbehebung

  • Acrylic panels not sliding smoothly: Verify that the protective film has been completely removed from both sides of the acrylic. Ensure the grooves in the extruder pieces are clear of debris.
  • Rack feels unstable after assembly: Double-check that all screws are fully tightened. Ensure the rubber feet are securely attached to the base.
  • Devices not fitting: Refer to the product specifications for internal dimensions and compatibility. Ensure you are using the correct mounting shelves for your specific devices (e.g., 0.5U shelves for Raspberry Pi).
