2. Key Features

  • Compact Size: Designed with a small footprint and a rock-solid aluminum casing for durability and portability.
  • 4 Independent True Bypass Audio Loops: Ensures your tone remains unaffected when loops are disengaged.
  • Switchable High-Quality Input Buffer: Prevents high-frequency loss in your signal chain, maintaining signal integrity.
  • Mute/Tuner Function: Includes an independent tuner output for silent tuning on stage.
  • SW A/B Function: Allows for amplifier channel switching, expanding your control options.

3. Setup and Connections

Proper connection of the Patch Kommander is crucial for optimal performance. Follow these steps to integrate it into your setup.

3.1 Basic Connections

  1. Connect your instrument (e.g., guitar) to the INPUT jack on the Patch Kommander.
  2. Connect the OUTPUT jack of the Patch Kommander to your amplifier's input.
  3. Connect your individual effects pedals to the Send and Return jacks of the four loops (L1-L4). For example, connect the input of your first pedal to SEND L1 and its output to RETURN L1.
  4. Connect a standard 9V DC (center negative) power supply (sold separately) to the DC 9V input.
  5. If using the Mute/Tuner function, connect your tuner to the TUNER output.

3.2 Buffer Activation

The Patch Kommander features a switchable input buffer. To activate or deactivate the buffer, use the BUFFER ON/OFF switch located near the INPUT jack. The buffer helps prevent high-frequency loss, especially with long cable runs or multiple true bypass pedals.

3.3 SW A/B Function

The SW A/B function allows for amplifier channel switching. Connect a TRS cable from the SW A/B jack to your amplifier's channel switching input. Consult your amplifier's manual for specific connection requirements.

4. Operating Modes

The Patch Kommander offers two primary operating modes: Direct Mode and Preset Mode.

4.1 Direct Mode

In Direct Mode, each footswitch directly controls its corresponding loop (L1-L4). This mode is ideal for musicians who prefer to manually engage and disengage individual pedals as needed. The Mute/Tuner footswitch and Bank footswitch (for SW A/B) also operate independently.

4.2 Preset Mode

Preset Mode allows you to save combinations of engaged loops and SW A/B settings into 12 different presets. This is useful for instantly recalling complex pedal configurations for different song sections or tones.

  1. To enter Preset Mode, press the MODE SELECT button. The indicator light will change to reflect Preset Mode.
  2. Engage/disengage the desired loops (L1-L4) and set the SW A/B state.
  3. Press and hold one of the footswitches (1-4) to save the current configuration to that preset slot.
  4. To recall a saved preset, simply press the corresponding footswitch (1-4).

4.3 Mute/Tuner Function

The dedicated MUTE/TUNER footswitch allows you to silence your signal for tuning without affecting your active loops. When engaged, the signal is routed to the TUNER output only.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Hotone Patch Kommander, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or waxes, as these can damage the finish.
  • Storage: Store the unit in a dry environment away from extreme temperatures, humidity, and direct sunlight.
  • Power Supply: Always use a compatible 9V DC (center negative) power supply. Using an incorrect power supply can damage the unit and void the warranty.
  • Cable Management: Ensure all cables are properly routed and secured to prevent accidental disconnections or damage to the jacks.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Patch Kommander, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Sound:
    • Check all cable connections (instrument, amplifier, pedals, power).
    • Ensure the power supply is correctly connected and functioning.
    • Verify that the active loop(s) are engaged and the Mute/Tuner function is not active.
    • Test individual pedals directly to confirm they are working.
  • Tone Loss/Noise:
    • Ensure all patch cables are in good condition and properly seated.
    • Experiment with the BUFFER ON/OFF switch to see if it improves the signal.
    • Check for ground loops if using multiple power supplies or effects.
  • Presets Not Saving/Recalling:
    • Ensure you are in Preset Mode when attempting to save or recall.
    • Follow the saving procedure carefully (press and hold the footswitch).
