Google Wifi Setup
Welcome to Google Wifi
Wi-Fi is used in every part of the home: in the bedroom, in the kitchen, in the garage, everywhere. Google Wifi keeps up with the way you enjoy Wi-Fi by providing fast, reliable coverage throughout your entire home. Let’s plug it in and get started.
What’s in the Box
● 1 or 3 Wifi points
● 1 Ethernet cable
● 1 Power adapter
● Quick start guide

What you need
The Google Wifi app on an Android or iOS mobile device:
● Android 4.0 and up
● iOS 7 and up
A broadband internet connection via Ethernet — typically through a DSL or cable modem . Contact your local Internet Service Provider (ISP) for details.

Step 1: Find a spot for your Wifi point
Your primary Wifi point needs to be connected to a modem. So this may limit where you place it, depending on the length of the ethernet and power cables. If possible, place your Wifi point in plain view like on a shelf or TV stand. It also helps to choose a central location at eye level.

Step 2: Plug in your Wifi point
1. Connect the first Wifi point to your modem with the provided ethernet cable. Make sure to plug it into the Wifi point’s WAN port (the one next to the icon).
2. Then connect the power adapter to the Wifi point and a power outlet.

The status light will pulse blue when the Wifi point is ready for setup.

What does the light mean?

Step 3: Get the App
Download the Google Wifi app for Android 4.0 and up or iOS iOS 7 and up. For the Android app, search the Google Play store. For iOS, visit the Apple App Store.

Step 4: Set up Wi-Fi
To get started, open the Google Wifi app. On Android , your Wifi point will automatically be associated with the Google Account used with your phone.
On iOS , the app will ask you to sign in with your Google Account or create a new one.

What’s a Google Account?
A Google Account gives you access to Google products like Gmail, Google+, YouTube, and more with a single username and password. To create a new account, visit https://accounts.google.com

Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your Wifi point and Wi-Fi network.

1. Find and connect to Wifi point
○ The app will automatically detect your Wifi point .
○ Point your mobile device’s camera at the QR code on the base of your Wifi point . The code will be used to set up your Wifi point.
○ Pick a label for your Wifi point. This describes where your Wifi point is and will help you identify it later.

2. Set up your Wi-Fi network

○ Create a Wi-Fi network name and password.

3. Connect additional Wifi points
○ Select how many more Wifi points you need to set up and follow the on-screen instructions.

4. Review your network
○ After your Wifi points are setup, you’ll see an overview of your Wi-Fi network and all the Wifi points you’ve set up.

5. Install software update
○ After your Wifi points are setup, the app will download and install a software update, which includes the latest features and security measures. This can take up to 3 minutes. Your Wifi points will restart and your Wi-Fi network will be down until the Wifi points fully turn on.

The AV out port provides analog video connections using a special breakout cable. Your Installation Specialist can provide this cable, if needed. Each TV Box is connected by WiFi or Ethernet to the Network+ Box. The TV Box is also connected to your TV.

Connecting your TV to the HDMI port on the TV Box ensures the most vivid picture and enhances your viewing enjoyment. If your TV does not support HDMI, you can use an analog breakout cable, which is available from your Installation Specialist or at a Google Fiber Space in your area. (You can use an HDMI or an analog connection, but not both.) Do not connect your TV Box output to a VCR. Video signals fed through VCRs may be affected by copyright protection systems and may produce a distorted image on your TV.

Connecting your TV to the HDMI

When the TV Box is properly connected and powered on, the LED on the front displays solid blue.

TV Box is properly connected

Although the connector on the back of the TV Box looks just like a headphone jack, it is an AV out port. To use the AV out port, you can use a special analog breakout cable, which is available from your Installation Specialist, or you can pick one up at a Google Fiber Space in your area. The USB port on the back of the TV Box is not currently supported but might be enabled to support new features in a future release.

Google Fiber TV Network Box Setup [GFRG200,GFRG210,GFRG250]

Network Box product info (GFRG200, GFRG210, GFRG250)

This Google Fiber Network Box Product Information Guide contains important safety, recycling, warranty, and license information. Learn about how your Network Box (GFRG200) or Network+ Box (GFRG210, GFRG250) works.

==>> In this document, Network Box is a general reference to any of the network devices. Where there are differences, the text distinguishes between them as Network Box and Network+ Box.

Safety first
– Please read these instructions before using your Network Box. We do not want you to get hurt or your Network Box to get damaged.
– Do not use your Network Box near water. If you need to clean it, do not use a wet towel. Keep your Network Box dry. Do not place your Network Box near any heat sources, such as hot appliances like heaters and radiators, other electronics like computers and stereos, or inside your fireplace. Your Network Box is cool, and you should help it to stay that way.
– The Network Box is for indoor use only. Please do not try to use it outside.
– Only plug in cables and accessories specified and as directed by Google Fiber.
– Protect your Network Box’s power cord by allowing it to loosely rest between the device and the power outlet. Do not stretch it or compress it between objects.
– Do not try to open, modify, or repair your Network Box. This could cause electric shock or injury to you. Any customer modification not expressly approved by Google voids your authority to operate the equipment and will void your device warranty. If you think something is wrong with your Network Box, please contact Google Fiber customer support.
– If your Network Box gets wet, its power cord appears damaged, or it is generally not behaving properly, please contact Google Fiber customer support.
– The Network Box does not have an on/off switch. If you want to turn it off, unplug it.

Safekeeping
– Handle your Network Box with care; do not drop or shake it.
– It is normal for your Network Box to get warm, and it needs ventilation to continue functioning properly. Do not block the vents. Your Network Box may bring cool air in from the bottom and push warm air out the back. To ensure proper airflow, place the Network Box on a solid, unobstructed surface. Do not place the Network Box on a soft surface, such as a carpeted floor, which may block the airflow.

WARNINGS:
Failure to follow these safety instructions could result in fire, electric shock, or other injury or damage to the Network Box or your property. Do not attempt to open or modify the Network Box. If you do so, you run the risk of electric shock or injury. There are no user-serviceable parts inside the Network Box. To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose Network Box to the outdoors, liquid, moisture, excessive heat, or fire.

Choking hazards
The Network Box packaging may include plastic bags and tie-wraps. Please dispose of these properly and keep them out of reach of children, as they could present a choking hazard. Keep the Network Box, its cords, and its accessories out of the reach of small children.

About your Network Box (GFRG200, GFRG210, GFRG250)
If you subscribe to the Fiber 100 or Fiber 1000 plan, your package includes a Network Box (GFRG110 or GFRG200). If you subscribe to the Fiber 1000 + TV service, your package includes either a Network Box (GFRG110) and a Storage Box (GFMS100) or a Network+ Box (GFRG210, GFRG250).

The Network+ Box provides the same network routing capabilities as a Google Fiber Network Box (GFRG200). In addition to network routing functions, the Network+ Box serves as the central storage device for all content you record from all of your TV Boxes. It provides 2 TB of storage space, which allows you to store up to 500 hours of HD programming, and connects to the TV Boxes using MoCA or Ethernet.

In this article, Network Box is a general reference to any of the network devices. Where there are differences, the text distinguishes between them as Network Box and Network+ Box.

This article describes the Network Box models GFRG200, GFRG210, and GFRG250. If you have model GFRG110,
see specific information about your device.

The Google Fiber Network Box (GFRG200) and Network+ Box (GFRG210, GFRG250) connect directly to your Fiber Jack via an Ethernet cable. Device dimensions are:
Network Box (GFRG200) and Network+ Box (GFRG210): 8″ W x 8″ D x 1.5″ H.
Network+ Box (GFRG250): 8″ W x 8″ D x 2″ H.

Network Box

When the Network Box is properly connected, the LED on the front displays solid blue. If the LED does not display solid blue 2-5 minutes after being connected to power, contact Google Fiber customer support.

LED on the front displays

The Network Box serves as a router, which provides Internet service for your home network. You can connect computers and other devices directly to the Network Box using Ethernet cables or wirelessly over Wi-Fi.

wirelessly over Wi-Fi

A maximum of four devices can be wired directly to the Network Box using Ethernet cables. If you want to add more wired devices, you can connect a gigabit Ethernet switch to one of the Ethernet ports. Connecting directly to the Network Box provides the fastest speeds on your network.

Network Box using Ethernet cables

As the number of wireless devices connected to the Network Box increases, you might notice performance degradation.

You can manage your network settings on the Network tab of your Fiber account. Google Fiber uses open source components (some of which are licensed under GPL). You can find our repository of open source code at code.google.com/p/gfiber .
