Frequently Asked Questions

Which distinction does this make from the second generation?

There are not many. This lock supports Z-Wave (for home automation), may be linked to a new camera or doorbell, and works with both the keypad and August connect. Additionally, August included Door sense, which enables the lock to sense when it is close to the door frame and lock the door.

I have a wink hub and want to install an August smart lock pro gen 3 on every door to my home. Do I require any of the smart connect bridges?

The Z-Wave radio is built inside the Smart Lock Pro. Without the Connect Hub, it can be attached to a Smart things Hub or a Wink Hub, which will handle the internet connection and the August app. The Z-Wave connection must be completed with the assistance of higher-tier August Support, according to reports so far.

Does it function with Alexa commands?

Yes, it is really effective when you want to set up a routine to lock the door. For obvious security reasons, you cannot unlock the door during routines. For access to Alex, you do need the Wi-Fi August Connect.

Do I need to purchase an external key lock or does August Smart Lock include one?

All commercial bolt locks sold in the USA can fit the August Smart Lock, but it did not come with one. If there isn’t one on your door, you must purchase and install one first.

Can Alexa unlock the door if someone yells through it?

Cannot be used to unlock doors; it can only be used to lock doors and check the status of doors.

Do you simply turn the Smart Lock Pro like a large door knob to lock it from the inside?

Yes. The door automatically locks itself whenever you close it. The door won’t lock until it is completely closed, even if you close it nearly all the way. I’ve had mine for nine months and haven’t experienced any major issues. I’ve had to re-calibrate it a few times, but it’s not difficult to do.

Can I operate the lock using rechargeable batteries?

Any AA battery will function, yes.

Is this compatible with Google Home?

Yes, it does so in a circular manner. You must make advantage of IFTTT.

What is the battery life?

Your use of the lock will determine how long the battery lasts. However, it can last for a few months. Regular double-A batteries are used.

If you have an Echo Plus with a built-in hub, do you still need the connection?

Work with Z-wave in USA frequency in August. If Echo Plus is capable of doing that, you won’t need to connect.
