AsiaHorse UMBRA ARGB PWM Fan Hub

Model: UMBRA

Brand: AsiaHorse

1. Introduction

The AsiaHorse UMBRA ARGB PWM Fan Hub is designed to provide comprehensive control over your PC case fans and ARGB lighting. This hub supports up to 10 independent 5V 3-pin ARGB devices and offers PWM fan speed control, managed through exclusive AsiaHorse software or motherboard synchronization. This manual provides essential information for installation, operation, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance.

2. Safety Information

2.1 Power Requirements

For stable, bright, and flicker-free lighting, your system's Power Supply Unit (PSU) must have at least 60W-100W of reserved power dedicated to the AsiaHorse UMBRA ARGB hub. A direct and secure SATA power connection is strictly necessary to safely manage multiple high-LED count devices without power interruption. Insufficient power can lead to unstable lighting or device malfunction.

5. Setup

5.1 Software Requirement

The UMBRA hub is a software-driven device. To unlock its full potential and lighting controls, you MUST download the official AsiaHorse software. The download link is typically provided in the included user manual or on the official AsiaHorse website.

5.2 ARGB Connections: Avoid Daisy-Chaining

The UMBRA hub features 10 independent 5V 3-pin ARGB ports. For individual control of each fan's lighting, plug each fan's 5V 3-pin ARGB cable DIRECTLY into its own port on the UMBRA Hub. Daisy-chaining regular fans' ARGB cables together into one UMBRA port will result in all chained fans mirroring the exact same lighting, preventing individual control.

If you are short on ports, you can daisy-chain extra ARGB devices. However, be aware that the lighting effects may not be 100% perfect, as those chained devices will only mirror the first device instead of being controlled individually. UMBRA requires independent channels to unleash individual fan LED control.

5.3 Critical Step: ARGB Detection

Whether it's your very first setup or you are adding/replacing new ARGB devices, you must allow the UMBRA software to identify your hardware first. Do not start tweaking colors immediately.

  1. Go to the [Controller settings] menu in the AsiaHorse software.
  2. Click on "ARGB detection" or "Reset Devices".

This crucial step forces UMBRA to scan and accurately identify all newly connected LEDs and their exact LED counts. Skipping this step will cause unlit LEDs, stuttering effects, or incorrect colors.

5.4 USB Connections

If the software cannot detect the hub, ensure the USB 2.0 9-pin cable is fully seated on your motherboard. Avoid using cheap USB splitters if you have multiple internal USB devices (like AIO screens), as this can interfere with detection.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Independent Channel Control

The UMBRA hub allows for true customization with its 10 independent 5V 3-pin ARGB ports. By connecting each fan directly to its own port (without daisy-chaining), you can control each fan individually, adjusting lighting effects, speed, brightness, and direction with precision via the UMBRA software. This enables seamless and fluid light transitions across your entire PC case.

6.2 Canvas Mode

Dive into the exclusive Canvas Mode within the AsiaHorse software. This mode allows you to create a continuous rainbow wave that flows across all fans as one canvas, rather than repetitive individual effects. It comes equipped with a large library of built-in lighting presets and offers a highly customizable color palette and grid layout for DIY customization, allowing you to design your PC case lighting precisely.

6.3 Immersive Screen Sync

The UMBRA hub supports an immersive screen synchronization feature, utilizing "Curtain Effect" technology. This captures on-screen colors in real-time and extends the visual experience to your case lighting, creating a dynamic and engaging environment.

6.4 Smart Dual-Mode Management

The UMBRA hub offers flexible dual-mode management. The UMBRA software drives the ARGB lighting for aesthetics, while your motherboard can handle PWM fan speed for silence and optimal cooling. This setup ensures no conflicts between lighting control and fan performance.

6.5 Universal Compatibility

The UMBRA hub is engineered for broad compatibility, supporting most standard 5V 3-pin ARGB fans and PC components. This allows for integration into various PC builds.

6.6 Exclusive DIY Effects (Nyota Pro Fans)

For users with AsiaHorse NYOTA Pro fans, the UMBRA hub enables exclusive DIY effects. It allows for customizing dual-zone lighting (left and right sides) separately for a unique visual impact. Note: When physically connecting multiple Nyota Pro fans together and plugging them into the UMBRA Hub using one cable (daisy-chaining), the software recognizes them as a single group. You can then control the left and right light strips of this entire group, but not each fan individually within that group.

7. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your UMBRA hub, keep it free from dust and debris. Periodically clean the hub and its connections using a soft, dry cloth. Ensure all cables are securely connected and not under strain. Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures or humidity.

8. Troubleshooting

  • LEDs are unlit or flickering:
    - Ensure your PSU has sufficient reserved power (60W-100W) for the hub.
    - Verify the SATA power connection to the hub is secure.
    - Perform an "ARGB Detection" or "Reset Devices" in the AsiaHorse software (see Section 5.3).
    - Check if ARGB cables are correctly connected (avoid daisy-chaining for individual control, see Section 5.2).
  • Software cannot detect the hub:
    - Ensure the USB 2.0 9-pin cable is fully and securely seated on your motherboard.
    - Avoid using cheap USB splitters if you have multiple internal USB devices (see Section 5.4).
    - Try connecting the USB cable to a different internal USB header on your motherboard.
  • Fans are not spinning or speed control is not working:
    - Ensure the PWM cable from the hub is connected to a motherboard fan header.
    - Check fan power connections.
    - Verify fan speed settings in the AsiaHorse software or your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI.
  • Colors are incorrect or effects are stuttering:
    - Perform an "ARGB Detection" or "Reset Devices" in the AsiaHorse software (see Section 5.3).
    - Ensure you are using the latest version of the AsiaHorse software.
