It also shows various input options on a soundbar, including USB, optical, coaxial, and line-in, with the subwoofer connecting to the "BASS output" of the soundbar.

Setup

1. Placement

  • For optimal bass performance, place the subwoofer on the floor, preferably in a corner or near a wall. This can enhance bass response due to room acoustics.
  • Avoid placing the subwoofer directly against a wall or in a cabinet, as this may cause muffled sound or excessive vibrations.
  • Ensure there is enough space around the subwoofer for proper ventilation and to allow the bass reflex port to function effectively.

2. Connection

The GOWENIC subwoofer is a passive unit and requires connection to an external amplifier or receiver with a dedicated subwoofer output. Refer to Figure 2 for a visual guide.

  1. Identify Subwoofer Output: Locate the subwoofer output (often labeled "SUB OUT" or "LFE") on your amplifier or soundbar. This is typically an RCA jack.
  2. Prepare Cable: Use the provided audio connection cable (or a suitable alternative). If it's an RCA to bare wire cable, connect the RCA end to your amplifier's subwoofer output.
  3. Connect to Subwoofer: Connect the bare wire ends of the cable to the input terminals on the rear of the GOWENIC subwoofer.
    • Press down the red terminal lever and insert the positive (+) wire (usually red or marked). Release the lever to secure the wire.
    • Press down the black terminal lever and insert the negative (-) wire (usually black or unmarked). Release the lever to secure the wire.
Ensure a secure connection and correct polarity (red to red, black to black) to prevent phase issues and ensure optimal sound.
  4. Power On: Once connected, power on your amplifier/receiver. The subwoofer will receive its signal and power from the connected audio source.

Important: Ensure all audio equipment is turned off before making any connections to prevent damage.

Operating

As a passive subwoofer, its operation is directly controlled by the amplifier or receiver it is connected to.

  • Power: The subwoofer powers on and off with your connected amplifier/receiver.
  • Volume Control: Adjust the subwoofer's volume level through your amplifier or receiver's settings. Many amplifiers have a dedicated subwoofer level control.
  • Crossover Frequency: If your amplifier/receiver has a crossover setting for the subwoofer, it is recommended to set it between 80Hz and 120Hz, depending on your main speakers' frequency response and personal preference.
  • Phase Control: Some amplifiers offer a phase control (0° or 180°). Experiment with this setting to achieve the most coherent bass sound with your main speakers.

Experiment with placement and amplifier settings to achieve the desired bass response for your listening environment.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your subwoofer.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior of the subwoofer. Do not use liquid cleaners, aerosols, or abrasive materials, as they may damage the finish.
  • Dust: Regularly dust the unit, especially around the bass reflex port and input terminals, to prevent accumulation.
  • Environment: Keep the subwoofer in a clean, dry environment, away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, and moisture.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings are not obstructed.
