5. Setup

Follow these steps for initial setup of your CO-Z Water Distiller:

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Retain packaging for future storage or transport.
  2. Clean: Before first use, wash the glass carafe and plastic jug with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
  3. Placement: Place the distiller unit on a stable, level, and heat-resistant countertop or surface. Ensure there is sufficient space around the unit for proper ventilation, especially around the air vents on the top.
  4. Power Connection: Connect the power cord to the distiller unit, then plug it into a grounded electrical outlet. Ensure the outlet meets the voltage requirements of the distiller.
  5. Initial Rinse Cycle (Optional but Recommended): For the first use, it is recommended to run one distillation cycle with water that will be discarded. This helps to clean any manufacturing residues.

6. Operating Instructions

Operating your CO-Z Water Distiller is straightforward:

  1. Fill the Distiller: Open the lid of the distiller and fill the stainless steel boiling chamber with tap water. Do not exceed the maximum fill line indicated inside the chamber.
  2. Place Collection Container: Position either the glass carafe or the plastic jug directly under the distiller's spout. Ensure it is securely placed to collect the distilled water.
  3. Power On: Plug the distiller into a grounded electrical outlet. The control panel will illuminate.
  4. Start Distillation: Press the power button (U) on the control panel to start the distillation process. The distiller will begin heating the water.
  5. Set Timer (Optional): Use the '+' and '-' buttons to set the desired operation time (0-99 hours). The distiller will automatically shut off after the set time. If no time is set, it will run until the water level is low or it reaches the auto-shutoff temperature.
  6. Set Reservation (Optional): Use the 'SET' button to access the reservation function. Use '+' and '-' to set a delay time (0-99 hours) before distillation begins. This allows you to schedule distillation during off-peak hours.
  7. Monitor Process: The distiller will boil the water, creating steam that rises, condenses, and drips into the collection container.
  8. Automatic Shut-off: The distiller will automatically turn off when the water in the boiling chamber reaches a temperature of 300°F, indicating that most of the water has been distilled or evaporated.
  9. After Distillation: Once the cycle is complete and the unit has cooled down (approximately 30-60 minutes), unplug the power cord. Carefully remove the collection container.
  10. Empty Residue: Pour out the remaining water and mineral residue from the boiling chamber. This residue should be cleaned regularly as per the maintenance section.

7. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and efficient operation of your distiller.

7.1 Daily Cleaning

  • After each distillation cycle, allow the unit to cool completely.
  • Empty any remaining water and mineral residue from the boiling chamber.
  • Rinse the boiling chamber with clean water. For light residue, a soft cloth or sponge can be used.
  • Wash the collection carafe/jug with warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly.

7.2 Deep Cleaning (Descaling)

Mineral deposits (scale) will accumulate in the boiling chamber over time, especially in hard water areas. Descaling should be performed regularly, typically once a week or as needed, when significant scale buildup is visible.

  1. Ensure the distiller is unplugged and completely cool.
  2. Pour approximately 1 liter (0.25 gallons) of warm water into the boiling chamber.
  3. Add one packet of the provided cleaning powder (or a similar descaling agent like citric acid) to the water in the boiling chamber.
  4. Stir the solution to dissolve the powder.
  5. Close the lid and let the solution soak for at least 30 minutes, or longer for heavy scale. For stubborn deposits, you may gently heat the solution by running the distiller for a short period (e.g., 15-20 minutes) without distilling, then unplug and let it soak.
  6. After soaking, carefully pour out the solution. Use a non-abrasive brush or sponge to scrub away any remaining scale.
  7. Rinse the boiling chamber thoroughly multiple times with clean water to remove all cleaning solution residue.
  8. Run one or two distillation cycles with clean water, discarding the distilled water, to ensure no cleaning agent residue remains.

Caution: Do not use harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or metal brushes, as these can damage the stainless steel surface.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your distiller, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Distiller does not power on.No power supply; Loose power cord; Faulty outlet.Check if the power cord is securely plugged into both the distiller and a working electrical outlet. Test the outlet with another appliance.
No water is being distilled.Insufficient water in the boiling chamber; Distiller not turned on; Lid not properly sealed.Ensure water level is above the minimum line. Press the power button. Check that the lid is securely placed.
Distillation process is slow.Heavy mineral buildup (scale); Low ambient temperature.Perform a deep cleaning/descaling as described in Section 7.2. Ensure the distiller is in a room with a reasonable ambient temperature.
Distilled water has an unusual odor or taste.New unit odor (first few uses); Residue from previous distillation; Incomplete cleaning.Run a few cycles with water to be discarded for new units. Ensure thorough cleaning of the boiling chamber and collection containers. Perform a deep cleaning.
Distiller shuts off prematurely.Timer set for a shorter duration; Overheating due to blocked vents.Check the timer setting. Ensure air vents are clear and the unit has proper ventilation.

If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact customer support.
