4.2 Tamping the Coffee Grounds
- After grinding, remove the portafilter from the grinding cradle.
- Use the included tamper to press the coffee grounds firmly and evenly into the filter basket. A level and consistent tamp is crucial for proper extraction.
4.3 Brewing Espresso
- Insert the tamped portafilter into the group head and twist firmly to lock it into place.
- Place your espresso cup(s) under the portafilter spouts.
- Select your desired brewing temperature (194°F, 198°F, 201°F, or 205°F) by long-pressing the temperature button.
- Press the single or double shot button to start brewing. The machine will perform a low-pressure pre-infusion before full extraction.

4.4 Milk Frothing
- Fill the milk frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) to just below the spout.
- Position the steam wand tip just below the surface of the milk.
- Turn the steam knob to activate the steam.

5. Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance ensure optimal performance and longevity of your espresso machine.
5.1 Daily Cleaning
- Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove the portafilter, discard coffee grounds, and rinse the portafilter and filter basket under hot water. Use the cleaning brush from the cleaning kit to remove any stubborn coffee residue.
- Steam Wand: Immediately after frothing milk, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth. Purge a small amount of steam to clear any milk from the nozzle.
- Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray daily. The drip tray also contains a hidden compartment for the cleaning kit.
- Group Head: Use the cleaning brush to remove any coffee grounds from the group head seal and shower screen.
5.2 Weekly Cleaning / Backflushing
- Backflushing: Insert the silicone backflush disk into the portafilter with a small amount of espresso machine cleaner (if desired, follow cleaner instructions). Lock the portafilter into the group head. Run a brew cycle for 10 seconds, then stop for 10 seconds. Repeat 3-5 times. Remove the portafilter and rinse thoroughly.
- Bean Hopper and Grinder: Empty any remaining beans from the hopper. Use the silicone bellow blower to clear any residual grounds from the grinder chute.
5.3 Descaling
The frequency of descaling depends on your water hardness. The machine may have an indicator for descaling. Follow the instructions provided with a suitable descaling solution for espresso machines. Generally, descaling involves running a descaling solution through the machine's water paths, followed by several rinses with fresh water.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your COUPLUX Espresso Machine, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No power | Machine unplugged, power outlet fault, main power switch off | Check power cord connection, try a different outlet, ensure main power switch is on. |
| No water flow | Water tank empty, tank not seated correctly, pump not primed | Fill water tank, ensure tank is fully inserted, prime the pump as per setup instructions. |
| Weak espresso / Fast extraction | Grind too coarse, insufficient coffee dose, tamping too light | Adjust grind to a finer setting, increase coffee dose, tamp more firmly and evenly. |
| Slow espresso / No flow | Grind too fine, excessive coffee dose, tamping too hard | Adjust grind to a coarser setting, reduce coffee dose, tamp with less force. |
| No steam from wand | Steam wand blocked, machine not heated to steam temperature | Clean steam wand nozzle with a pin, wait for machine to reach steam temperature. |
| Water leaking | Drip tray full, water tank not seated, loose connections | Empty drip tray, ensure water tank is correctly installed, check all connections. |
