1. Product Overview
The AOTIQUAL D730 Natural Gas Detector is designed to detect methane (CH4) in the air, providing an early warning system for potential gas leaks. This battery-powered device features both light and audible indicators to alert users to unsafe gas levels, enhancing safety in various environments such as homes, RVs, kitchens, and apartments.

Figure 1: Illustration of the natural gas detector's function in a home environment, detecting methane particles.
2. Key Features
- Methane Detection: Primarily detects methane in natural gas, with an alarm response within 10 seconds. Alarm concentration threshold is 8% LEL (Lower Explosive Limit).
- High Sensitivity Sensor: Equipped with sensitive semiconductors for accurate and reliable detection of methane gas, responding quickly to both sudden leaks and low-concentration accumulation. Alarm concentration error is ±3% LEL.
- Audible and Visual Alarm: Emits an 85 dB audible alarm and a flashing red indicator light when methane levels exceed safe limits.
- Mute/Self-Check Button: Allows users to silence the alarm or perform a self-check of the device. In normal operation, a green indicator blinks every 60 seconds.
- Battery Powered: Operates on batteries, offering flexibility in placement without requiring a power outlet.
- Durable Design: Constructed from flame-retardant ABS plastic for durability and easy cleaning.
- Long Service Life: Designed for an effective service life of 10 years. A yellow light will flash when the device approaches its end-of-life, indicating it needs replacement.

4. Setup and Installation
4.1 Battery Installation
- Gently twist the back cover of the detector counter-clockwise to remove it.
- Insert the three 1.5V AA batteries into the battery compartment, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Replace the back cover by aligning it and twisting clockwise until secure.

4.2 Choosing an Installation Location
Natural gas (methane) is lighter than air and tends to rise. Therefore, the detector should be installed in a location where gas is most likely to accumulate. Recommended locations include:
- Near gas appliances (stoves, ovens, water heaters, furnaces).
- On a wall, approximately 12 inches (30 cm) from the ceiling.
- At least 5 feet (1.5 meters) away from cooking fumes, steam, or ventilation openings.
- Avoid installing in direct sunlight, dusty areas, or areas with high humidity.

4.3 Mounting the Detector
- Once the ideal location is chosen, mark the positions for the mounting screws on the wall.
- Drill pilot holes if necessary and insert the provided wall anchors.
- Secure the mounting bracket (part of the back cover) to the wall using the provided screws.
- Attach the detector to the mounted bracket by aligning and twisting clockwise until it clicks into place.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Initial Power-Up and Warm-Up
After battery installation, the detector will enter a warm-up period. This typically takes approximately 3 minutes. During this time, the device calibrates its sensor. Do not attempt to test or rely on the detector during the warm-up phase.
5.2 Indicator Lights and Alarm Status
The detector features multiple LED indicators to communicate its status:
- Green Light (Power): Blinks every 60 seconds during normal operation.
- Yellow Light (Fault): Indicates a product malfunction or sensor error. If this light flashes, refer to the troubleshooting section or consider replacing the detector.
- Red Light (Alert): Flashes accompanied by an 85 dB audible alarm when methane concentration exceeds 8% LEL.
- Life Indicator: A yellow light will flash when the detector's 10-year service life has expired, signaling the need for replacement.

5.3 Test/Silence Button
The "Test/Silence" button serves two functions:
- Self-Check: Press and hold the button briefly to initiate a self-test. The alarm will sound, and all indicator lights will cycle, confirming the device is functioning correctly.
- Silence Alarm: In the event of an alarm, pressing this button will temporarily silence the audible alert. The visual alert (flashing red light) may continue until the gas concentration returns to safe levels.

6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
Wipe the detector's exterior with a soft, damp cloth as needed. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Ensure the air inlet is free from dust and obstructions.
6.2 Battery Replacement
Replace the three AA batteries when the low battery indicator (if present, or if the device shows signs of low power) is activated. Follow the battery installation steps in Section 4.1.
6.3 End of Service Life
The AOTIQUAL D730 Natural Gas Detector has an effective service life of 10 years. When the yellow "Life" indicator light flashes, the detector has reached the end of its operational life and must be replaced to ensure continued safety.

7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Alarm sounds frequently without apparent gas leak. | False alarm due to testing with inappropriate methods (e.g., lighter), or presence of other volatile organic compounds. | Ensure proper testing methods (use natural gas in a bag, not a lighter). Relocate the detector away from sources of fumes or strong odors. Press the "Test/Silence" button to mute. |
| Yellow "Fault" light flashes. | Product malfunction or sensor error. | Perform a self-check using the "Test/Silence" button. If the fault persists, the unit may require replacement. |
| Yellow "Life" light flashes. | Detector has reached its 10-year service life. | Replace the detector immediately to ensure continued protection. |
| No lights or response. | Dead or incorrectly installed batteries. | Check battery polarity and ensure they are fresh. Replace batteries if necessary. |
