Setup
Initial Inspection: Upon receiving your Kizer Serpentine knife, carefully inspect it for any signs of damage or manufacturing defects. Ensure the blade is securely seated when closed and that the locking mechanism operates smoothly.
Familiarization: Before initial use, familiarize yourself with the knife's components, including the blade, handle, locking mechanism, and opening features.
Operating
The Kizer Serpentine offers two primary methods for one-handed blade deployment:
- Thumb Hole Opener: Place your thumb in the circular cut-out on the blade and apply outward pressure to rotate the blade open until the frame lock engages.
- Front Flipper Opener: Position your index finger on the textured front flipper tab. Apply downward pressure and a slight flick of the wrist to deploy the blade. The blade will rotate open until the frame lock engages.

Securing the Blade (Frame Lock): The knife features a robust titanium frame lock. When the blade is fully open, a portion of the handle frame moves inward to secure the blade in place, preventing accidental closure. Ensure the lock bar is fully engaged before use.
Closing the Blade: To close the knife, firmly press the frame lock bar to disengage it from the blade tang. Carefully fold the blade back into the handle channel, ensuring your fingers are clear of the blade path.

Maintenance
Blade Material (M390 Steel): The M390 micro-grain stainless steel blade offers supreme wear resistance and excellent edge retention. To maintain its performance, regular cleaning and proper sharpening are essential.

Cleaning: After each use, especially after contact with corrosive materials, clean the blade and handle with a soft cloth and mild soap. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water and dry immediately. Apply a light coat of knife oil to the blade and pivot area to prevent corrosion and ensure smooth operation.
Sharpening: M390 steel maintains its edge well but requires proper sharpening techniques when needed. Use a high-quality sharpening system appropriate for premium stainless steels. Maintain the factory edge angle for optimal performance.
Handle Care (Titanium & Richlite): The titanium frame and Richlite composite handle are durable and resistant to moisture and temperature changes. Clean the handle with a soft cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals that could damage the materials.

Troubleshooting
- Stiff Blade Action: If the blade feels stiff, apply a small amount of knife pivot lubricant to the pivot area. Avoid over-tightening the pivot screw, as this can hinder smooth operation.
- Blade Play: If there is excessive side-to-side blade play, gently tighten the pivot screw using an appropriate Torx bit. Do not over-tighten. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
- Dull Edge: A dull edge can be safely restored with proper sharpening as described in the Maintenance section.
